Czubala selflessly gave of himself both physically and through all his knowledge of plumbing, construction and electricity, his daughter Sandra Bigbie said. “He was very passionate about helping people and working hard,” Bigbie said. Czubala, 86, of Cedar Lake, a retired Hammond Fire Department battalion chief, also was a plumber. He belonged to both Firefighters Union Local 556 and Plumbers Union Locals 307 and 210. Czubala worked for Lassie Plumbing, which was bought by his brother and is now owned by a third generation family member.
