Jamie Perko was a loving and loyal son,
brother and friend, his brother, Nickey
Perko, said.
“He had a smile that was contagious. He
had a sense of humor that was priceless,”
he said. “He was a trickster and a master of
impersonations.”
Jamie Perko, 44, of Highland, died April
23. He was a 1987 graduate of Highland High
School and attended Indiana University,
Bloomington. He worked for Majestic Star
Casino, Gary.
He was known as the “Cable TV Sports
Guy,” covering Northwest Indiana high
Services for Jamie Perko were April 28 at St. Maria
school sports from the late 1990s until 2010.
Goretti Catholic Church, Dyer. Burial was in St. John — St. He had done work for Comcast, WJOB radio
and Channel 56.

OLGA SHINOVICH
(NEE KROCHTA)
Olga Shinovich (nee Krochta) age 92 born April 15, 1922 passed
away Monday May 12, 2014. Olga was born in Gary, IN the
youngest daughter of William and Mary Kochta. She graduated
from Froebel High School in 1940 and married her husband Bob
Shinovich in 1942. They had four children who survive: John
"Doc" and Cindy Shinovich of Simpsonville, SC, William "Bill"
Shinovich of Naperville, IL, Deborah "Debbie" and Carl
Rutkowski of Cedarburg, WI, and Sandy Shinovich of
Schererville, IN; beloved grandchildren: Todd (Christina), Brad
(Stacy), Elizabeth, Steven and Stacey Shinovich, Kate (Ryan)
Schweiger, Jon, Joe, Michael and Diane Rutkowski; loving great
grandchildren: Jacob, Avary, Brayden, Max, and Abigail; as well
as sister, Mary Drozda; along with her nieces and nephews: Jim
and Barb Shinovich, Joyce Krochta, Barb Whitlow, Mary Lynn
Fuller, Bill Drozda, Valerie Mc Mullen, Tamara and Gordon
Ainsworth, Claudia and Ron Coker; and several great nieces and
nephews. Olga worked at Bank of Indiana and later the Lake
County Clerk's Office. She was a dedicated wife, mother and
baba. Nothing gave her greater joy than cooking a meal for her
family and having them together. Her nut rolls and kolachas were
second to none. Olga was a selfless woman who put her children,
grandchildren and great grandchildren before herself. Her love of
her family equaled by her love of her Orthodox Faith. She attended her church regularly until her illness where her parents
were founders. Olga was a lifelong member of the Protection of
the Virgin Mary Orthodox Church. She was preceded in death by
her parents; husband, Bob (1980); siblings: Nick (Lala), Dan
(Mary), Steve and Nettie Krochta, Ann (John) Mansfield;
in-laws: Joseph Drozda, Sophie, Ann (Lefty), Helen, Ike (Estelle)
Shinovich and Mildred (Charles) Kluge; and nephew, Bob
Shinovich.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 17, 2014 at 12:30 PM
DIRECTLY at St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Church, 9191 Mississippi St., Merrillville with V. Rev Marko Matic officiating. Internment St. Mary's Russian Orthodox Cemetery. Visitation will
be held Friday from 2:00-8:00 PM at Burns Funeral Home, 10101
Broadway, Crown Point with a Pomen Service at 7:00 PM. In lieu
of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Protection of
the Virgin Mary Orthodox Church, 8600 Grand Blvd., Merrillville, IN 47410 or St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Church, 9191 Mississippi St, Merrillville, IN 46410. The family would also like to

Lutheran Village for the exceptional care and love she received

William S. Allen, 77, of Valparaiso formerly of Rontonda
West, Florida, passed away
Wednesday, May 14, 2014. He
was born July 5, 1936 in Johnstown, PA, graduated from Dale
High School in 1954 and received his B.S. in Mechanical
Engineering from the University
of Pittsburgh in 1958.
Bill began his career with Bethlehem Steel as a Looper Class of
"58" and continued until his retirement in 1998 as Superintendent of Service Shops and
Technical Maintenance with 42
years of service.
On September 13, 1958, Bill
married Dee Shadle who survives along with their daughter,
Krista Massa of Valparaiso;
grandson, Stevie Massa of Valparaiso; twin brother, Bob Allen
of Florida; and sister, Peggy
Stanish of Florida. He was preceded in death by his daughter,
Kim Allen in 1979; his mother,
Margaret Allen; and brothers:
Howard, Jim and Dave Allen.
Following cremation a memorial service will be held Saturday
12:00 noon at Moeller Funeral
Home, 104 Roosevelt Road,
Valparaiso with Pastor Gretchen

He was known for being hardworking
and dedicated to covering prep sports in the
region.
Perko loved running his fantasy baseball
and football leagues, which he did for more
than two decades. He loved the Chicago
Cubs, Miami Dolphins, Boston Red Sox and
the Chicago Blackhawks. He was an avid fan
of WWE wrestling.
He is survived by his family he loved very
much. In addition to his brother, he is survived by his parents, Mary Lou and Nick
Perko, and his sister, Starr Ann Roth.
Nickey Perko said family members felt
blessed they could see him on a daily basis
and created a multitude of memories.
“Jamie was a man with a boy’s heart.
Jamie was peaceful and loving,” he said. “He
seemed to see the good in most people. He
was the sweetest guy you could meet.”

On June 16, 1973 in San Rafael,
CA she married David W. Cox,
who survives, along with two
children: Matthew (Karen) Cox
of Hobart and Stephanie (David)
Daubek of Valparaiso; six
grandchildren: Davey, Ryan and
Brandon Cox and Arianna,
Chloe and Hugh Daubek; twin
sister, Kathy (Bruce) Coslet of
Naples, FL; one brother, John
(Terri) Joseph of Grass Valley,
CA. She was preceded in death
by her parents.
A funeral service will be held on

missed.
