SONGS
The Bear
Singin’ in the Rain
(repeat after me song, every 4 lines repeat
those all together)
(verse)
I’m singin’ in the rain
Just singin’ in the rain
What a glorious feelin’
Teeter tot, teeter tot,
teeter tot, tot
Wooooo
Teeter tot, teeter tot,
teeter tot, tot
Wooooo
The other day
I met a bear
Out in the woods
Away out there
The lowest branch
Was 10 feet up
I’d have to jump
And trust my luck
He looked at me
I looked at him
He sized up me
I sized up him
And so I jumped
Into the air
But I missed that branch
Away up there
He said to me
Why don’t you run
I see you ain’t
Got any gun
Now don’t you fret
And don’t you frown
Cause I caught that branch
On the way back down
And so I ran
Away from there
But right behind
Me came that bear
That’s all there is
There ain’t no more
Unless I meet
That bear once more
Up ahead of me
I saw a tree
A great big tree
Oh glory be!
The end, the end
The end, the end
The end, the end
The end, the end

Bright and shinny moon
Oh, won’t you please shine down on me?
Oh, Mr. Moon, moon
Bright and shinny moon
Hiding behind that tree, what tree?
Now this old camper I’m a tellin’ you
To Camp Lakewood will ever be true
Oh, Mr. Moon, moon
Bright and shinny moon
Oh, won’t you please shine down on
Talk about your shine on
Please shine down on me!
Repeat singing quiet and then LOUD!

Little Cabin in the Woods
In a Cabin in the Woods
Little cabin in the woods,
(using fingers, draw a cabin in the air)
Little man by the window stood,
(frame face with hands)
Little rabbit passing by,
(fingers in a “V”, hopping motion-hand)
Knocking at my door.
(knocking motion in air)
In a cabin in the woods
Little man by the window stood
Saw a rabbit hopping by
Knocking on his door
Help me, help me, help me he said,
(flap hands back by shoulders)
Before the hunter shoots me dead.
(pretend to hold a shoot a rifle)
Little rabbit come inside,
(wave arms in “come here” motion)
Safely by my side.
(move one arm by side)
Repeat song, omitting the words of the first
line. Hum the tune and repeat
the action for this line, then continue the
rest of the song with both words
and actions.
Continue repeating the song dropping a
additional line each time you sing
it. The final time the song will have no
words, only humming and actions.
Help me, help me, help me he said
Before the hunter shoots me dead
Come little rabbit
Come inside
Safely by my side

Agriculture man exterminate me

Crazy Herman said, don’t jump and shout
Come in and we’ll hang out!

Well, I walked around the corner,
and I walked around the block.
And I walked right into a donut shop.
And I picked up a donut, fresh from the grease,
And I handed the lady a five cent piece.
Well, she looked at the nickel
and she looked at me,
And she said, this nickel is no good to me,
There’s a hole in the middle
and it goes right through.
So I said, there’s a whole in my donut, too.
Thanks for the donut, toodleoo!!

PURPLE STEW
Begin telling this story...
The other day, I was walking through the forest when off in the distance I saw a bunch of purple
people - little tiny purple people gathered around a great big purple pot bubbling and boiling over a
fire. And as they stirred that pot, they sang a little song. It went like this...
(Chorus)
“Making a purple stew wop-bop-babalu-wop-bop” (making a stirring motion)
“Making a purple stew-be-do-be-do-be-do-be”
“Purple potatoes and purple tomatoes and you! A purple stew!”
Well, as I watched, a furry little bunny came hopping through the forest and do you know what
happened? The purple people grabbed that bunny and threw him in the pot!
(everybody)
“It sure was funny to see a purple bunny! And they kept on singing... (Chorus)
Pretty soon, a monkey came swinging through the trees and do you know what happened?
The purple people grabbed that monkey and threw him in the pot!
(everybody)
“It sure was funky to see a purple monkey! And they kept on singing... (Chorus)
Then, a bird came flying by - way up in the air and do you know what happened? One of those
purple people jumped way, way up into the sky, grabbed that bird and dropped him in the pot!
(everybody)
“It sure was absurd to see a purple bird! And they kept on singing... (Chorus)
All of a sudden, those purple people saw me and do you know what they did? They scooped
me up and tossed me into that pot!
(everybody)
“It sure was hot sitting in that pot! And they kept on singing... (Chorus)
Now, it was awfully crowded in that pot and me and the monkey and the bird and the bunny
got to moving around and rocking back and forth, and pretty soon that big purple pot tipped
over and spilled us out. We ran and ran and ran and ran as fast as we could but off in the
distance we could still hear them singing…
(Chorus - softly)
Johnny Verbeck
Do Your Ears Hang Low?
(Chorus)
Oh, Mr. Johnny Verbeck

I told you, you’d be sorry
for inventin’ that machine,
now all the neighbors cats and dogs
will nevermore be seen
They’ll be ground to sausages
in Johnny Verbeck’s machine.
Do your ears hang low?
Do they wobble to and fro?
Can you tie them in a knot?
Can you tie them in a bow?
Can you throw them o’er your shoulder
Like a Continental Soldier?
Do your ears hang low?
Up in the streets of Palamar,
there lived a mean old man,
His name was Mr. Johnny Verbeck
and he could surely plan
There were a lot of cats and dogs
and ring-tailed rats a few,
So Johnny Verbeck,
he made a machine that
ground them all to stew.
(Chorus)
One day a boy came walkin’
a walkin’ thru the store.
He bought a pound of sausages
and laid them on the floor.
The boy began to whistle,
He whistled up a tune.
And all the little sausages
went dancin’ round the room.
(Chorus)
One day the darn busted
the darn thing wouldn’t go,
So Johnny Verbeck
he climbed inside
to see what made it so.
His wife she had a nightmare,
went walkin’ in her sleep
She gave the crank a heck of a yank
and Johnny Verbeck was meat!
(Chorus)
Do your ears hang high?
Do they reach up to the sky?
Do they wrinkle when they’re wet?
Do they straighten when they’re dry?
Can you wave them at your neighbor
With an element of flavor?
Do your ears hang high?

Rocky Top
Wish that I was on ol’ Rocky Top
Down in the Tennessee hills
Aint’ no smoggy smoke on Rocky Top
Ain’t no telephone bills
Once I had a girl on Rocky Top
Half bear, other half cat
Wild as a mink,
but sweet as soda pop I still dream about that
(Chorus)
Rocky Top you’ll always be Home sweet home to me
Good ol’ Rocky Top
Rocky Top Tennessee, Rocky Top Tennessee
Folks don’t grow no corn on Rocky Top
Soil’s too rocky by far
That’s why all the folks on Rocky Top
Drink their corn from a jar
(Chorus)
I’ve had years of pent-up city life Trapped like a duck in a pen
All I know is it’s a pity life Can’t be simple again
(Chorus)
Beautiful Tennessee
Once two strangers climbed ol’ Rocky Top Lookin’ for a moonshine still
Strangers ain’t come down from Rocky Top Reckon they never will

The Cat
CameBack
Old Mister Johnson had troubles of his own
He had a yellow cat which wouldn’t leave his home;
He tried and he tried to give the cat away,
He gave it to a man goin’ far, far away.
(Chorus)
But the cat came back the very next day,
The cat came back, we thought he was a goner
But the cat came back; it just couldn’t stay away.
The man around the corner swore he’d kill the cat on sight,
He loaded up his shotgun with nails and dynamite;
He waited and he waited for the cat to come around,
Ninety seven pieces of the man was all they found.
(Chorus)
He gave it to a little boy with a dollar note,
And he told him to take it up the river in a boat.
He tied a stone around his neck, it must have weighed a pound;
Tomorrow they’re dredging the river for the little boy that
drowned!
(Chorus)
He gave it to a man going up in a balloon,
He told him to take to the man in the moon.
The balloon came down about ninety mile away,
Where he is now they dare not say!
(Chorus)
He gave it to a man going way out west.
Told him to give it to the one he loved the best.
First the train hit the curve, then it jumped the rail,
Not a soul was left behind to tell the cruesome tale!

There’s a hole in the bucket
Worms
There’s a hole in the bucket, dear Liza, dear Liza,
There’s a hole in the bucket, dear Liza, a hole.
Nobody likes me,

Think I’ll eat some worms.
Long, slim slimy ones,
short, fat juicy ones,
itsy, bitsy, fuzzy, wuzzy worms.
Then fix it dear Henry, dear Henry, dear Henry,
Then fix it dear Henry, dear Henry, fix it.
With what should I fix it, dear Liza, dear Liza,
With what should I fix it, dear Liza, with what?
With a straw, dear Henry, dear Henry, dear Henry,
With a straw, dear Henry, dear Henry, with a straw.
But the straw is too long, dear Liza, dear Liza,
The straw is too long, dear Liza, too long.
Then cut it dear Henry, dear Henry, dear Henry,

The knife is too dull, dear Liza, too dull.
Then, sharpen it, dear Henry, dear Henry, dear Henry,
Then sharpen it dear Henry, dear Henry, sharpen it!
With what should I sharpen it, dear Liza, dear Liza,
With what should I sharpen, dear Liza, with what?
With a stone, dear Henry, dear Henry, dear Henry,
With a stone, dear Henry, dear Henry, a stone.
First you bite the heads off,
then you suck the guts out.
oh how they wiggle and squirm.
Long, slim slimy ones,
short, fat juicy ones,
itsy, bitsy, fuzzy, wuzzy worms.
Down goes the first one,
down goes the second one,
oh how they wiggle and squirm.
Long, slim slimy ones,
short, fat juicy ones,
itsy, bitsy, fuzzy, wuzzy worms.
Up comes the first one,
up comes the second one,
oh how they wiggle and squirm.

The atom bomb fell just the other day,
The H-Bomb fell in the very same way;

The human race was finished without a chance to pray.
In the bucket, dear Henry, dear Henry, dear Henry,
In the bucket, dear Henry, dear Henry, in the bucket!
(Chorus)
First you get a bucket,

Scooping up the field mice
And boppin’ ‘em on the head

Scooping up the field mice
And boppin’ ‘em on the head.

And if you don’t behave
I’ll turn you into a goon!”

Mousie Song
Love to eat those little mousies,
Mousies what I love to eat.
Love to bite their little heads off,
Nibble on their tiny feet.
I said a nibble on their tiny feet.
I’m so glad that I’m a tomcat,
Tomcats what I love to be.
Got no desire to be a momcat,
Little kittens buggin’ me
I said little kittens buggin’ me.
I don’t eat rats or little birdies,
Mousies what I love to eat.
I eat them just the way I catch ‘em,
Good and fresh and plenty sweet.
I said a good and fresh and plenty sweet,
I said a good and fresh and plenty sweet.

Mister Moon
(repeat after me song)
Mister moon, mister moon,
you’re out to soon
The sun is still in the sky
Go back to bed and cover up your head
And wait till the day goes by
For on a summer’s evening,
I walked the forest through
When suddenly I heard it,
A sweet and low cuckoo
Cuckoo, cuckoo,
Cuckoo, cuckoo
Purple lights
In the canyon
That’s where I
Long to be
With my three
Good companions
*My backpack, my pony, and me.
Whippoorwill
In the willow
Sings a sweet melody
For my three
Good companions
*My backpack, my pony, and me
Gonna hang
My sombrero
On the limb
Of that there tree
With my three
Good companions
*My backpack, my pony, and me
No more cows
To be roppin’
No more strays do I see
Just my three
Good companions
*My backpack, my pony, and me
*One more time

*Into the sunset (softly)

Going Into
the Night
(Chorus)
Going into the night, there’s magic in the night
Singing out a song that’s clear
The great horned owl is my night time pal
With a song that you can hear
And the owl you can here (hoot, hoot)
(Chorus)
The soulful note of the lone coyote
Is a song that you can hear
And the coyote you can hear (howl)
And the owl you can hear (hoot, hoot)
(Chorus)
Down in the thicket there’s a million crickets
With a song that you can hear
And the crickets you can hear (click, click)
And the coyote you can hear (howl)
And the owl you can hear (hoot, hoot)
(Chorus)
In the bog there’s a ton of frogs
With a song that you can hear
And the frogs you can hear (ribbit, ribbit)
And the crickets you can hear (click, click)
And the coyote you can hear (howl)
And the owl you can hear (hoot, hoot)
(Chorus)

Is a song that you can hear
And the silence you can hear (be silent)
And the frogs you can hear (ribbit, ribbit)
And the crickets you can hear (click, click)

Did you ever watch the sunrise turn the sky completely red,
Have you slept beneath the moon and stars, a pine bough for your bed
Did you sit and talk with friends, though a word was never said,
Then you’re just like me and you’ve been on the loose.
(Chorus)
On the loose to climb a mountain,
On the loose where I am free.
On the loose to live my life, the way I think my life should be,
For I’ve only got a moment and a whole world yet to see.
I’ll be looking for tomorrow on the loose.
There’s a trail that I’ll be hiking just to see where it might go.
Many places yet to visit, many people yet to know,
For in following in my dreams, I will live and I will grow,
On a trail that’s waiting out there on the loose.
(Chorus)
So in search of love and laughter, I’ll be traveling cross this land
Never sure of where I’m going, for I haven’t got a plan,
So in time when you are ready, come and join me and take my hand,
And together we’ll share life out there on the loose.
(Chorus)
In this world that I am traveling, I will think of you this way,
Remembering your smile, for it seems like yesterday
When we slept beneath the stars, and we dreamed about this day
Now we have come together on the loose.
(Chorus)
Do the trees in the forest make you sit and think of love?
Does it take you twenty times or more to count the stars above?
For I’m here now and I like it and the hours melt away,
And if I want I’ll stay here another day.
(Chorus)
As I sit and watch the sunset and the daylight softly fades,
I am thinking of tomorrow and the friendships we have made.
I will value them for always and I hope you’ll do the same,
And forever we’ll explore life on the loose.
(Chorus)
Now the moon is softly glowing and the stars are twinkling bright
Our laughter and our friendship have cleared this cloudy night
Come and join our flickering campfire, come and sing our happy songs
And together we’ll share life out on the loose.
(Chorus)

Linger
Pass It On
Hmm, I want to linger,
Hmm, a little longer,
Hmm, a little longer here with you.
It only takes a spark
to get a fire going,
And soon all those around
can warm up in its glowing;
That’s how it is with God’s Love,
Once you’ve experienced it,
Your spread the love to everyone
You want to pass it on.
Hmm, it doesn’t seem quite right,
Hmm, that on this perfect night
Hmm, that this should be our last with you.
Hmm, and come September,
Hmm, I will remember,
Hmm, my camping days and friendship true.
Hmm, and as the years roll by,
Hmm, I think of you and sigh,
Hmm, this is goodnight and not goodbye.
Hmm, I want to linger,
Hmm, a little longer,
Hmm, a little longer here with you.
Make New Friends
Make new friends, but keep the old.
One is silver, the other is gold.
A circle is round,
it has no end.
That’s how long, I will be your friend.
A fire burns bright, it warms the heart.
We’ve been friends, from the very start.
The sky is blue
The Earth is green
I can help
to keep it clean
(can be done in a round)
What a wonderous time is spring,
When all the tress are budding
The birds begin to sing,
the flowers start their blooming;
That’s how it is with God’s love,
Once you’ve experienced it.
You want to sing,
it’s fresh like spring,
You want to pass it on.
I wish for you my friend
This happiness that I’ve found;
You can depend on God
It matters not where you’re bound,
I’ll shout it from the mountain top
(PRAISE GOD!)
I want the world to know
The Lord of love has come to me
I want to pass it on.
I’ll shout it from the mountain top
(PRAISE GOD!)
I want the world to know
The Lord of love has come to me
I want to pass it on.
Country Roads
Almost heaven, West Virginia
Blue ridge mountains
Shenandoah river Life is old there
Older than the trees
Younger than the mountains
Growin like a breeze
Country roads, take me home
To the place I belong
West Virginia, mountain momma
Take me home, country roads
All my memories gathered round her
Miners lady, stranger to blue water
Dark and dusty, painted on the sky
Misty taste of moonshine
Teardrops in my eye
Country roads, take me home
To the place I belong
West Virginia, mountain momma
Take me home, country roads
Country roads, take me home
To the place I belong
West Virginia, mountain momma
Take me home, country roads
Country roads, take me home
To the place I belong
West Virginia, mountain momma
Take me home, country roads
Take me home, now country roads
Take me home, now country roads
I hear her voice
In the mornin’ hour she calls me
The radio reminds me of my home far away
And drivin’ down the road I get a feelin’
That I should have been home yesterday,
yesterday
Fish and Chips and Vinegar
(One Bottle of Pop)
One bottle of pop, two bottle of pop, three bottle of pop,
four bottle of pop, five bottle of pop, six bottle of pop,
seven bottle pop, pop!
Fish and chips and vinegar, vinegar, vinegar
Fish and chips and vinegar, pepper, pepper, pepper, salt.
Don’t put your dust in my dust pan, my dust pan, my dust pan
Don’t put your dust in my dust pan, my dust pan’s full.

Circle
Game
The
Yesterday a child came out to wonder
Caught a dragonfly inside a jar
Fearful when the sky was full of thunder
And tearful at the falling of a star
Then the child moved ten times round the seasons
Skated over ten clear frozen streams
Words like, when youre older, must appease him
And promises of someday make his dreams
And the seasons they go round and round
And the painted ponies go up and dawn
Were captive on the carousel of time
We cant return we con only look behind
From where we came
And go round and round and round
In the circle game.
Sixteen springs and sixteen summers gone now
Cartwheels turn to car wheels thru the town
And they tell him,
Take your time, it wont be long now
Till you drag your feet to slow the circles down
And the seasons they go round and round
And the painted ponies go up and dawn
Were captive on the carousel of time
We cant return we can only look behind
From where we came
And go round and round and round
In the circle game
I Love the
Mountains
So the years spin by and
now the boy is twenty
Though his dreams
have lost some grandeur
coming true
There’ll be new dreams,
maybe better dreams
and plenty
Before the last revolving
year is through.
And the seasons they go
round and round
And the painted ponies
go up and down
Were captive on the
carousel of time
We cant return, we can
only look behind
From where we came
And go round and round
and round
In the circle game
I love the mountains.
I love the rolling hills.
I love the flowers.
I love the daffodils.
I love the fireside.
When all the lights are low.
(Chorus)
Boom dee ah dah.
Boom dee ah dah.
Boom dee ah dah.
Boom dee ah dah.
Boom dee ah dah.
Boom dee ah dah.
Boom dee ah dah.
Boom dee ah dah.
I love the flowers.
I love the daffodils.
I love the mountains.
I love the rolling hills.
I love the fireside.
When all the lights are low.
(Chorus)
We walk together.
Hike by the quiet stream.
Watch for the sunrise.
Breathing the air so clean.
When we’re together,
Sharing our fondest dreams.
(Chorus)
Opening Up
We are opening up in sweet surrender
To the luminous love light of the moon
One Tin Soldier
Listen, children, to a story
That was written long ago,
‘Bout a kingdom on a mountain
And the valley-folk below.
On the mountain was a treasure
Buried deep beneath the stone,
And the valley-people swore
They’d have it for their very own.
(Chorus)
Go ahead and hate your neighbor,
Go ahead and cheat a friend.
Do it in the name of Heaven,
You can justify it in the end.
There won’t be any trumpets blowing
Come the judgement day,
On the bloody morning after....
One tin soldier rides away.
So the people of the valley
Sent a message up the hill,
Asking for the buried treasure,
Tons of gold for which they’d kill.
Came an answer from the kingdom,
“With our brothers we will share
All the secrets of our mountain,
All the riches buried there.”
(Chorus)
Now the valley cried with anger,
“Mount your horses! Draw your sword!”
And they killed the mountain-people,
So they won their just reward.
Now they stood beside the treasure,
On the mountain, dark and red.
Turned the stone and looked beneath it...
“Peace on Earth” was all it said.
(Chorus)
We are opening, we are opening
We are opening, we are opening
(can be done in a round)

Day is done
Gone the sun
From the lake to the hills to the sky
All is well
Safely rest
God is nigh and good night

If I Had A Hammer
(The Hammer Song)
If I had a hammer
I’d hammer in the morning
I’d hammer in the evening
All over this land
I’d hammer out danger
I’d hammer out a warning
I’d hammer out love between
My brothers and my sisters
All over this land
If I had a bell
I’d ring it in the morning
I’d ring it in the evening
All over this land
I’d ring out danger
I’d ring out a warning
I’d ring out love between
My brothers and my sisters
All over this land
If I had a song
I’d sing it in the morning
I’d sing it in the evening
All over this land
I’d sing out danger
I’d sing out a warning
I’d sing out love between
My brothers and my sisters
All over this land
Well I’ve got a hammer
And I’ve got a bell
And I’ve got a song to sing
All over this land
It’s the hammer of justice
It’s the bell of freedom
It’s the song about love between
My brothers and my sisters
All over this land
Peace Like A River
I’ve got peace like a river
I’ve got peace like a river
I’ve got peace like a river in my soul
I’ve got peace like a river
I’ve got peace like a river
I’ve got peace like a river in my soul
I’ve got love like an ocean
I’ve got love like an ocean
I’ve got love like an ocean in my soul
I’ve got love like an ocean
I’ve got love like an ocean
I’ve got love like an ocean in my soul
I’ve got joy like a fountain
I’ve got joy like a fountain
I’ve got joy like a fountain in my soul
I’ve got joy like a fountain
I’ve got joy like a fountain
I’ve got joy like a fountain in my soul
I’ve got peace like a river
I’ve got love like an ocean
I’ve got joy like a fountain in my soul
I’ve got peace like a river
I’ve got love like an ocean
I’ve got joy like a fountain in my soul
Poor Rose
(repeat after me song)
Poor Rose she died
She died fer love
Her lover he died
Fer sorrow
They buried ‘em both
In the ol’ churchyard
In graves both deep
And narrow
And up from her’s
There grew a rose
And up from his’n
A briar
They clumbed and clumbed
Up the old church tower
‘Til they could clumb
No Higher
33
(All together)
The red rose and the briar
Flicker
The flicker of a campfire,
the wind in the pines
The moon in the heavens,
the stars that shine
A place where people
gather to make friends
of all kinds
A place where all our
troubles are always
left behind
So give me the light
of a campfire, warm
and bright
And give me some
friends to sing with; I’ll be
here all night
Love is for those who find
it; I found mine right here
Just you and me and
the campfire and songs
we love to hear
