THE NAOMI HOUSE CHILDREN’S SHORT STORY COMPETITION Terms and Conditions of Entry Please read all of the terms and conditions carefully before submitting an entry. Submission of an entry is taken as acceptance of all the terms and conditions of an entry. Incomplete entry forms and short stories not submitted in accordance with these terms and conditions will not be eligible for consideration. Eligibility The competition is open to previously unpublished short stories of 500 – 2000 words suitable for children aged 5-8 years old. Entries must be submitted in English. Translations of short stories originally published in languages other than English are not eligible. Entries will not be eligible where the author is a member of the judging panel, anyone involved in the administration of the competition or a close family relative of any such person. Entry Entries may be submitted by post accompanied by an entrance form and the applicable entrance fee (£3.50 for authors over 16 years old and £2 for authors under 16 years old) by Cheque made payable to Naomi’s House. Entries submitted in any other form will not be accepted. Entries must be received by 5pm on Friday 28th June 2013. Although entries will be assessed anonymously, they must be submitted in the author’s own name. More than one entry may be submitted per author. Author’s may only enter individually and not as part of a team. The story submitted must be (and by submission of this form is warranted by the author and accepted by the organisers to be) original, fictional, and entirely the author’s own work. It must not infringe the copyright or any other rights of any third party and not be libellous, unlawful or defamatory of any living person or corporate body. The organisers accept no liability if entrants ignore these rules and entrants agree to fully indemnify the organisers against any claims by any third party arising from any breach of these rules. The Short Story The story must be between 500 and 2000 words. The general theme of the story must be Summer. The format of the story must adhere to these following rules: o Types in Arial 12pt black font o Double Spaced o The name of the author must not appear anywhere within the story. o The name of the story and word count to be included within the header on every page. o Each page must be numbered. Judging Entries will be judged anonymously; in other words, the name of the author will not be linked to the story/made available to either the initial readers or the judges. The judges will be looking for what they think is the best entry on the basis of quality and originality of prose, narrative voice and storyline. Entries will be initially read and judged by a team of readers who will select a shortlist of the best 10 stories per entrance category. The final judge will choose the top three winners per category for the shortlist. The winner for each category and two runners-up will be announced on 19th August. The winner will receive prize money of £150. Two runners-up will each receive £75. The organisers reserve the right to increase or reduce the number of entries selected for the shortlist at its sole discretion. The judging will be fair and independent. The decisions of the judges are final. Neither discussion nor correspondence concerning any decision will be entered into. Shortlist and Winner The first place winners and runners-up from each category will be contacted personally by email or by telephone using the details provided at the time of entry and will be invited to an awards presentation at Naomi’s House By submitting a story, the entrant agrees to attend the Awards Ceremony in the event of winning. Entrants are responsible for all reasonable costs associated with attending the Awards ceremony. Copyright and Terms of Use Entrants retain the copyright in their entries by grant Naomi’s House a non-exclusive licence to use their entry for publications as well as for any promotional purpose.
