Cancer Screening and Control Services (CS&CS) are an integral part of the healthcare pathway, minimising cancer mortality and morbidity through screening, early detection, community education and health promotion. CS&CS comprises of four work units:  BreastScreen Tasmania (BST)  Cervical Cancer Prevention Program (CCPP)  Tasmanian Cervical Screening Register (TCSR)  Policy and Education Unit (P&EU) as well as the monitoring and oversight of the Tasmanian component of the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program (NBCSP). BreastScreen Tasmania provides free screening mammograms for all Tasmanian women aged 40+ at clinics in Hobart, Launceston and the Mobile Bus which travels to 17 rural locations state-wide. Approximately 28,000 women are screened per annum. The Tasmanian Cervical Screening Register sends reminder letters to women when cervical screening tests are overdue; and monitors follow-up to ensure women with abnormal results receive appropriate treatment and management. The National Bowel Cancer Screening Program is monitored by a dedicated Tasmanian NBCSP Follow-up CoOrdinator who contacts participants of the program who have received a positive result, to ensure they undergo any further investigations and tests required. The CS&CS Policy and Education Unit provides policy advice on cancer screening and control issues. It monitors national and international trends in cancer control policy and provides community education state-wide on the prevention and early detection of cancer through participation in screening programs and healthy living.
