Tasmanian Jobs Programme
Support for Tasmanian Businesses Fact Sheet
The Tasmanian Jobs Programme is an Australian
Government wage subsidy that supports
unemployed job seekers in Tasmania by providing
a payment to Tasmanian employers to help
increase their workforce.
Changes to the programme from 13 May 2015
mean that more money is available and more
employers can now receive the payment.
One-off wage subsidy payments of $6,500 (GST
inclusive) for a full-time position or $3,250 (GST
inclusive) for a part-time position (working a
minimum of 25 hours per week), will be paid to
eligible Tasmanian businesses for each eligible job
seeker they employ.
The Tasmanian Jobs Programme payment will not
be made for short-term or temporary jobs. An
Employment Services Provider can provide
further advice.
How does the programme work for
employers?
To be eligible to take part in the programme an
employer must:

have a physical business location in
Tasmania with an Australian Business
Number

place the job seeker in a position which is
expected to be ongoing and sustainable and
in accordance with the relevant award, with
reference to the Fair Work Act and the
National Employment Standards

enter into a Tasmanian Jobs Programme
Agreement with an Employment Provider

continue to employ the job seeker in the
position with the intention that the job will
continue after the one-off payment has been
made

submit satisfactory evidence of employment
to their Employment Provider after which
payment will be paid directly to the
employer
What is the Tasmanian Jobs
Programme payment?
Employers will receive a one-off payment at the
end of 26 weeks for each eligible participant they
employ in an ongoing full or part time position.
Job seekers must have been a resident of
Tasmania for at least the last six months,
registered with an employment provider and in
receipt of an eligible income support payment for
at least six months before the job commences.
What types of jobs can be offered?
Any suitable work can be offered but jobs must
be ongoing and expected to last after the
Tasmanian Jobs Programme payment has been
made. A minimum of 25 hours per week is
required to meet part-time work eligibility
requirements.
