Parents, Guardians, Friends and Family,
The 2013-2014 school year at Lindbergh Middle School is off to a great start in spite of
the hot weather. Our classrooms are full and our students are outstanding. With the best
teaching staff in the area, we have hit the ground running and our students are actively
engaged in their learning even with all of the changes that have taken place at Lindbergh. A
big thank you goes to the PTO members who gave up their time in August to coordinate our
orientation night. The two days of registration went very smoothly enabling us to begin the
school year with minimal problems. Dottie Askew deserves special thanks for handling all of
the office duties during the hectic days involved with opening a new school year. She and
part-time secretary Amy Payne has been wonderful in helping organize the registration
packets as they are turned in to school.
Mark your calendars for Back to School night on Thursday, September 12. The evening will
begin at 6:00 in the gym. We look forward to meeting all of you at that time. Our Fannie May
fundraiser will kick off on September 13 with class assemblies. This is the major fundraiser
for the year for Lindbergh Middle School so I hope we can count on your participation and
support. Orders are due by September 27. You do not want to miss “Taste of Lindbergh”
from 5:00-7:30 on the evening of October 17. Many restaurants and eateries will be present to
offer their treats for a minimal price. A silent auction, offering some wonderful items, will
take place during the evening.
Thank you for sending your children to us and trusting them in our care. Please review the
Flight Plan with your child on a regular basis and check planners daily for communication
from the teachers.
Cell Phones – Are to be turned off and in lockers during the school day. Students in violation of this
rule will have their phone taken from them for the day for the first offense. Any additional offenses will
require the parents to come to school to pick up the phone. Please help us as we enforce this policy.
Arrival at School – Students should not arrive at school prior to 7:15. Grades 5 & 6 must enter
through the main doors unless they are riding the bus. They must wait outside until the bell rings at
7:23 unless they are eating school breakfast. Grades 7 & 8 are to enter through the gym doors at 7:23
unless they are eating breakfast at school. During inclement weather, students will be allowed to enter
the building prior to 7:23.
Medications – Medications cannot be given to students UNLESS we have the proper paperwork on file
in the office. With allergy season upon us and flu season fast approaching, we urge you to get this
paperwork completed and submitted.

FRIDAY AFTERNOON DETENTION
Students who are chronically tardy to class (3 in one week or 5 in a grading period) may
be assigned a Friday Afternoon Detention from 2:30-4:00 in the office. Students who
continue to make bad decisions relative to behavior also run the risk of being assigned
one of these detentions. Failure to attend a Friday afternoon detention will result in an In
School Intervention.
DISMISSAL FROM SCHOOL
To ensure that all students are supervised and safe at all times, we want to continue to
follow our dismissal procedures from last year. All students in grades 5 & 6 who ride the
bus home must exit the building by walking down the 5th/6th grade hallway and exiting
out the doors near Room 98. 5th & 6th graders who walk home or get picked up by
parents are to exit out the doors near the office. 7th & 8th grade students who ride the bus
must use the exit near the Science Lab. All other 7th & 8th graders must exit out those
same doors or the doors across from the gym. 7th & 8th grade students must enter the
same doors in the morning as those they use to exit the building after school. No students
are to use the lunchroom as a hallway after school

DESTINATION IMAGINATION
Destination Imagination or DI is a team based creative problem solving competition. It is
worldwide. It is fun, very challenging, builds teamwork, and develops problem solving
capabilities in the participants. During the 2012-2013 school year, Lindbergh did very
well in DI. We had four teams. Two progressed to the State Tournament. One of those
got 2nd place thus qualifying for the Global Finals Tournament.
In October, we will have an “Intro to DI” meeting for students and parents. Following
that meeting we will form teams. Look for more details in the next newsletter.

Please return to the Lindbergh office! School Directory Every year the Lindbergh PTO publishes a directory of students and parents. It lists names, address, and phone number. It is intended solely for the use of Lindberg students and parents. It is quite useful. The directory will be available in mid or late October. What is your name and your child’s name (or children’s names)? Parent’s Name (please print) __________________________________________________ 1st Child’s Name (please print) _________________________________________________ 2nd Child’s Name (please print) _________________________________________________ 3rd Child’s Name (please print) _________________________________________________ Please mark one of the following: ____ I want my child (or children) listed in the Lindbergh School Directory ____ I Do NOT want my child (or children) listed in the Lindbergh School Directory Previously, the directory was published in paper format. This year, the primary mode will be in electronic format. The electronic form can be searched electronically and it can be printed from your computer. Distributing the directory in electronic form reduces the cost to the PTO. Consequently, the electronic form seems to have advantages for users of the directory and for the PTO. If you do not have access to printing from electronic format, a paper copy may be requested and will be printed from the school office. Please mark one of the following: ____ I want to receive the directory in electronic format (PDF) ____ I want to receive the directory in paper format (One copy will be sent home with your child. If you have 2 or more children attending school, it will be sent home with the oldest child.) If you want to receive the electronic format, please provide your email address.
