What Can I Do? Philippians 4:13 Welcome to Fraternity of One. As FO1 family members we cherish the opportunity to serve you and the community. We hope you experience our heart through our thoughts, words, and most importantly our actions. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. So then, each of us will give an account of ourselves to God. Forethought: The idea behind this FO1 moment is to bring recognition to the power that each of us have to impact our own present and future. Due to the fact that our eyes look outward at other things, people, situations, etc. we don’t spend enough time looking inward and understanding our own power through Christ Jesus. This leads us into the blame game. It started with Adam and Eve in the garden when Adam blamed Eve and we have been plagued with it ever since. FO1 Moment There are multiple options to get the point across • • • Option 1: o Invite volunteers from the kids and cheerleaders if they have completed the “I” statements (see below) during the week in practice, to share. It is important to get each child to declare what they will do to improve the situations. This will get them in a practice of avoiding the pitfalls of the blame game that hampers us Option 2: o If you are familiar, tell the kids the story of Evander Holyfield and Mike Tyson in 1996. How Mike Tyson was the heavyweight champion of the world who really intimidated his opponents and knocked them out quickly. How the majority of the public, press, boxing critics picked Mike Tyson to destroy Evander Holyfield. Evander was a huge underdog after having recently returning to boxing after retiring with a heart condition. But Evander came to the ring with a robe that referenced “Phi 4:13” and scored a TKO of Mike Tyson for one of the greatest upset victories in the history of boxing. Option 3: o Play a game with the kids. Get a few volunteers by asking for those who have the “best” vision on the field. The coaches or players who see everything – what was done well, what wasn’t, the coach who points out all the mistakes. (if you ask the kids, they will point them out) o Once you have the volunteers – impair the vision of the “seer” by one or more of the following:  Cover one eye with a hand, hat, shirt, etc.  Have someone block their vision (kids jumping up and down waving their hand will do the trick as well for other kids) o Have another person do the following and have the seer identify what they are doing. (be aware of the blind spots of the seer) What Can I Do? Philippians 4:13    Hold up fingers representing numbers and ask the seer how many fingers are held up. Ask for the color of a shirt or hat on someone else as you point to them Be creative and think of other things, etc. TO BE SHARED WITH ALL (no matter which option is used above) The point of this exercise is to demonstrate that it’s tough to clearly see/identify the actions/characteristics of others when your own vision is impaired. Many of us don’t know our vision is impaired. (Luke 6:39-42) He also told them this parable: “Can the blind lead the blind? Will they not both fall into a pit? The student is not above the teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like their teacher. “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when you yourself fail to see the plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye. Remind the kids that they have the power to impact their own lives. They don’t have to feel as though they cannot accomplish things in life or achieve success because of others. Have them repeat…”I can do all things through Christ that strengthens me.” • • • • Remember to show love today, be a leader, be a good follower, trust in God and acknowledge God in all that you do, obey your parents. Show good sportsmanship to your opponent as well – play within the rules, do not have intent to injure, help them off the ground. Control what you will do individually not others. Parents, make the sport about the kids, not you. Go Be Great in Life. FO1 puts God first and then we Work and Play in that order. So we will now ask all to join us in putting Him first by bowing our heads, two fists in the air and just listening to Him for a brief moment (after 5 – 8 secs say “Amen”). Now that we’ve put Him first, let’s repeat and ask to ourselves what we may want. (after 5 – 8 secs say “Amen”). Now we FO-1 each other as a way of showing love. A FO-1 is a hand shake and half-hug. Make sure everyone receives a FO-1 • I statements: o Games:  Ex. “I can/will do ___________________ in order for my team to succeed on the football field. o School:  Ex. “I can/will do ___________________ in order for me to achieve success in school. What Can I Do? Philippians 4:13 Ex. “I can /will do ___________________ in an effort to stop bullying or negative peer pressure in school. o Family:  Ex. “I can/will do ___________________ in order to be a positive influence on my family and help my family be the best family it can be. o Community:  Ex. “I can/will do ___________________ in order to help improve my community. o God:  Ex. “I can/will do ___________________ in order to help improve my relationship with God. 
