GIANT TM GIANT TM Child Carrier Manual Child Carrier Manual Thank you for choosing the Giant Progeny child carrier. Please carefully read the enclosed instructions for assembly and operation before using the child carrier. Retain the instructions in a safe place for future reference. The Giant Progeny carrier has been designed to carry children ages 1 yr to 4 yrs. The maximum weight that may be carried is 40 lbs. The seat is not intended for use with any motorized vehicles. If you have any questions regarding the assembly of use of the Progeny child carrier that are not answered by this manual, please consult your Authorized Giant retailer. WARNING •Do not carry a child who is too young to sit comfortably and independently in the seat ( A pediatrician should be consulted if you have any questions). •The child’s weight must not exceed the load limit of 40 lbs. •Additional luggage or accessories should not be attached to the rack or the seat. •Do not modify the Progeny carrier in any way. •Keep all clothing, articles, toys, and child clear of moving parts of the bicycle. •Always use retention straps and seatbelt when using the Progeny carrier. •When not in use, secure all retention straps in order to prevent loose straps contacting moving parts of the bicycle. •Helmets should be worn by the child at all times when seated in the carrier whether the bicycle is in motion or not. The driver should also wear a helmet at all times while operating the bicycle. •The additional weight of a child may alter the riding characteristics of the bicycle, requiring additional caution while steering and braking. •Never leave the child unattended or unsecured in the child seat. •Never leave the child in the seat with the bicycle supported only by a kickstand. •A rear reflector that complies with CPSC regulation must be visable whether the child seat is on the bicycle or not. •Before each ride, make sure the mounted child seat does not interfere with the braking, pedaling, or steering of the bicycle. •Never ride a bicycle at night without adequate lighting. •Always remove the child seat from the bicycle when the bicycle is being transported on a motor vehicle. The force of the high wind on the child seat may degrade or damage the carrier. •Presence of a child seat on a bicycle requires additional care when mounting and dismounting the bicycle. P.2 Assembly Tools Required : 4 , 5mm Hex Key , 8mm Hex Wrench. Before assembling your child carrier, please check that you have all the following parts: 1. Seat / Seat back / Back Adjustment lever. 2. Safety bar / Fitting kits. 3. Foot Rests & Foot straps x2. 4. Seat Pads & Retention System. Step #1 – Rack Assembly 5. Rack Fitting & hardware. • (1) Attach the rack legs to the bicycle frame at the threaded dropout eyelets, using the hex bolts included. Do not tighten the screws yet, but leave them loose to facilitate adjustment (2) (3) • (2) Pull both pre-mounted round stays towards the rack mounting points on the bicycle seat stays. Temporarily fasten the rod to the seat stays, position the rack horizontally. • (3) Check that the rack is oriented parallel to, or level with the ground, and finally tighten all the hardware. (1) All parts of the rack should attach without modification or force. If the rack cannot be installed easily please consult an Authorized Giant Retailer. CAUTION! The Giant Progeny child carrier is designed to work only in conjunction with frames with seat stay mounting points, theaded dropout eyelets, or approved quick release seat clamp with integrated rack attachments. Do not attempt to fit the Progeny carrier to a bicycle or rack without these fittings for security. Giant item no. 71608 (31.8mm) & no. 71611 (34.9mm) OD P.3 Step #2 – Mounting the Seat to the Rack Security lever • (1) Make sure the security lever indicates the “UNLOCK” position. • (2-1) Mount the carrier’s front hook on the underside of the Progeny child carrier onto the forward rail of the rack. (2-2) Lower the seat mount onto the rack until the retainer pins are engaged automatically. (2-1) • (3) Turn lever to “LOCK” location for security. (2-2) Step #3 – Installing the Safety Bar • (1) Place the pivoting end of the safety bar onto the mounting bracket and fit using the hardware enclosed. • (2) Rotate Safety bar down and snap into the receiver of the seat arm. P.4 Step #4 – Foot Rest Height Adjustment • Before setting the correct height of the foot rest measure the child’s lower legs from just below the knees to the soles of the feet. This measurement should be used to adjust the seat, by measuring from the seat to the bottom of the foot rest. The foot rest should be positioned at exactly this height. Step #5 – Retention System Adjustment • (1) Open the buckle by depressing the tabs on the top and bottom simultaneously. Be sure to release both sides of the buckle. • (2) Move the harness straps out of the way and place the child in the seat. • (3) Put the child’s arms though the loops formed by the shoulder/lap straps so that the harness passes over the child’s shoulders. • (4) Fasten the buckle by inserting the tabs from the shoulder/lap strap into the buckle until an audible click is heard indicating the buckle is secured. • (5) The tops of the shoulder straps should be parallel to or higher than the shoulders of the child. If they are not,remove the shoulder strap from the anchor strap and refasten the anchor strap in the proper position. CAUTION! • (6) If the child is too large for the straps to be adjusted properly, do not use the Progeny carrier. Make sure both shoulder straps are the same length for maximum comfort and security of the child. It has been constructed utilizing top quality materials and hardware. Contact your local Authorized Giant Retailer for replacement parts and service. With periodic maintenance and care this child seat will provide many years of use and enjoyment. Use mild soap and non-abrasive pad to clean the Progeny Carrier. Machine wash padsets, delicate cycle, air dry. Before each ride check all mounting hardware to insure that all nuts and bolts are secure. Check the rack fitting hardware rack mounting device, safety bar & back-up safety strap to make sure that they are secure. Limited Warranty Warranty Claim Requirements:To obtain warranty service, please retain originl sales reciept. All warraties will be void if the product is damaged due to user crash, abuse,manipulation/modification or used in a manner not intended as described in this manual.
