Pinedale teens often express frustration about
the lack of engaging activities and opportunities
available to them. In response to these needs,
the main library in Pinedale has launched the
Teen Library Council.
The Teen Library Council (TLC) is a group of
teens who help select what materials the library
orders for the young adult (YA) collection, plans
events and activities for teens at the library,
and promotes library awareness in the schools
and the community.
Beginning this spring, teens have been planning and developing activities for young adults
(8th—12th grade) for the summer months, and
also setting up a teen summer reading program, which will include movie nights, and of
course, food and snacks. They will also be involved in the design of the new young adult
area once a library expansion project begins
this year.
We already have more than a dozen teens
signed up to participate on the Council. You can
have your voice heard and get involved too. The
Council is always looking for new members!
The TLC had their first meeting on April 25. Our
teens had a good time meeting each other and
putting together ideas for summer events.

Teen Read is a summer reading club program
for teens entering the 8th—12th grade. Self
paced and genre related, this summer reading
program involves books, movies and a summer
party just for teens.
Movies are scheduled for one Sunday a month
at 7 pm: June 18, July 30, and August 20.
More details about the movies and the End of
Summer Party will come as the Council gets the
plans together!

Returning this Fall to Big Piney
The Friends of the Big Piney Branch Library
served a breakfast to over 200 people on Saturday, April 8 as part of the 6th annual Basket
Auction and Egg Hunt. A big thanks to Pinedale
auctioneer David Stephens, who generously
volunteered his services and brought in over
$7,000 for the Friends of the Big Piney Branch
Library! Combined with mail-in donations, food
and basket contributions, the event brought in
about $8,000.
Watch in August for your letter to pick up the
first book for the Wyoming Council for the Humanities Book Discussion Group.
There will be a total of six books to be read and
be discussed once a month beginning in September and ending in March. No meeting in
December. Actual discussion dates to be announced.
Thank you to all the businesses and families
that made this possible. We appreciate your
support and are grateful for all you do for the
library. Such generous support will cover guest
speakers, story time and teen programs, book
discussion groups and many other fun activities
held at the library.
This year we are pleased that a small part of the
money will be put with donations from the
Jeanne Murdock Memorial Fund and matching
funds from the Sublette County Library Foundation to purchase a bronze statue for display in
the south garden at the Big Piney Branch Library. Jeanne Murdock was an avid reader and
library user who devoted much of her life to
volunteering in the community.

Registration

Get a jump start on reading this summer. Come

Pet Show with Kippie the Clown
Thursday, July 6 from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm
Children are encouraged to bring their pet to the
library for our Pet Show hosted by Kippie the
Clown. Pets must be on a leash or in a carrier
when not on display. Kippie will also be painting faces.
Birds of a Feather with Barbara Wise
Thursday, July 13 from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm
On this day, children will be introduced to several exotic birds. We will continue the fun by
creating a bird that can be taken home.
Scale & Tails of Utah
Thursday, July 20 from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm
Shane Richins will be visiting from Utah bringing
with him over a dozen scaly animals. Included
in this slithery line up will be lizards, snakes, a
tarantula, and other creepy crawly creatures.
We will also be making a craft to take home.
Water Party with Alfie the Clown
Thursday, July 27 from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm
We will have our annual water party, with a special guest: Alfie the Clown and her dodo bird
Dolores! She will be twisting balloon animals
and the library will be serving hotdogs, chips,
watermelon and a drink, so plan to stay for
lunch. Lots of water games are to be expected
— be sure to wear your bathing suit because you
are sure to get wet!

Branch Library.
