The HHMI Exceptional Research Opportunities Program aims to increase the diversity of the science professoriate. We match well-prepared undergraduate students with HHMI scientists in a summer-long mentored research experience. Since 2003, EXROP has sponsored 578 students from 122 colleges and universities who worked with 187 HHMI scientists. More than three-fourths of the students are underrepresented minorities. Of the 370 EXROP alumni who have completed the baccalaureate degree, 362 are in science careers including 186 who went into graduate programs.
