Gosport Council
Continued from Page 1
a neighborhood crime watch program. The department requested
$30 for the rental of the community building for a meeting for
the crime watch organization. The
board approved the request unanimously.
Moving on to old business, the
board approved a no parking ordinance aimed at 5th Street, from
Walnut Street to County Line Road
on Goss Street, on both sides. A motorized vehicle ordinance was also
approved by a 2-1 vote, with Becky
Welch abstaining, that would make
it necessary for golf carts to have
a permit and yearly inspection. It
would also make it necessary for
golf cart drivers to be licensed and
carry insurance on the vehicle.
Also discussed in old business
was a proposal to raise water and/
or sewer rates in the future. It was
explained that the sewer rate has
not been raised since the 1990s.
The board chose not to act on the
agenda item until proper information has been gathered to determine the need to raise rates and
the amount needed to increase.
Butler, Fairman, Seufert’s Mike
Turchi spoke next during Tuesday’s meeting, asking the board
to execute the contract for the
storm water project for the Department of Natural Resources in the
amount of $665,407. Turchi spoke
to the board about two power poles,
one at 3rd & Main streets and the
other at 2nd & Walnut streets,
and their being in a dedicated
right-of-way. Duke Energy is asking the town to pay $4,800 for the
relocation of the two poles. Turchi
announced that the money in question can be paid with grant funds.
Another pole located mid-block on
4th Street north of Main Street
could possibly need to be relocated
at a later time. The board voted
unanimously to approve the measure.
In the final business of the night,
Gosport resident and businessman
John King spoke to the council
regarding several issues. He announced that Hoosier Disposal will
provide a 60-ton dumpster for a
community clean-up day. Another
dumpster is being sought at this
time.
After being brought to their
attention by Mr. King, the board
voted 3-0 to approve $251.10 for
the repair of the Gosport fire bell,
located in the town park, that was
retired from service in 1959.
In the final act of business, King
discussed the old Monon Depot
property issue which he is currently working on getting deeded
back to the town. A licensed surveyor will be needed to determine
the area in question and who the
rightful owner is.
The next meeting of the Gosport
Town Council will take place on
Tuesday, May 11 beginning at 6:30
p.m. in Gosport Town Hall. Clerktreasurer Wyatt Holsapple wished
to remind residents that the town
hall office will be closed on Tuesday, May 4 for election day.

Reservations Being Accepted For Fourth
Addition To Owen County War Memorial
With numerous veterans returning from Afghanistan, Iraq and other places around the world, a
fourth addition to the Owen County War Memorial Wall will begin construction in the Spring of 2010.
Currently, Owen County Veterans Service Officer Ron Morley is taking reservations for a brick in the
wall at a cost of $75 each.
The wall, which was originally constructed in 2001, will see its fourth addition directly behind the
current wall and increase the current total of nearly 800 names to between 1,460 and 1,520.
It has been emphasized that a person did not have to be a veteran during times of war, but must
have lived in Owen County prior to entering military service or after leaving military service and provide proof of military service. All blocks are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Reservations
can be made by contacting Morley at 829-5027, or Mike Harvey at 829-9354.
