Arrangements were under the direction of Olney Funeral Home, Ulysses. Charles S. Downing Charles S. Downing, 81, of Genesee, formerly of Cleveland, Ohio, died April 20, 2010, Cleveland Clinic. Arrangements were under the direction of Olney Funeral Home, Ulysses. Burial, with military rites, was in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, Ohio. Coudersport Alliance Church is hosting missionary conferences this month. On Saturday (today), Debbi Clouser, missionary to Africa, will be speaking following a dinner at 6:15 pm. On Sunday, she will meet with the youth at 8:45 am, followed by a presentation to the congregation at the 10 am worship service. At the same time, a children’s missionary conference will be conducted, enhanced with puppets, games, stories and awards. Next weekend, Tom and Tina Froehlich (shown with their family) will speak. They are missionaries to Uruguay. On Saturday, May 8, at 7 pm, they’ll be guests at a dessert social. On Sunday, Tom will address the teens at 8:45 am, and both will share in the 10 am worship service. The children will once again have their own missions conference. The public is welcome at any of the events. Joanne A. Smith Joanne A. Smith, 72, of Emporium, died at Hamot Medical Center, Erie, on April 23, 2010. Among survivors is her husband, Charles Smith. Mrs. Smith retired from Motor Coil, where she worked for many years. Arrangements were under the direction of Barnett Funeral Home. Burial was in the Newton Cemetery, Emporium. Christian music festival planned Christian bands are being sought to perform at a Christian Music Festival, slated for Aug. 19-21 at Allegheny River Campground, between Coudersport and Roulette. Jennifer Stambaugh and Andy Kulp are spearheading the event, with lots of music as well as morning and evening devotion times. Booking of bands is continuing; local acts will also be featured along with some big names. A raffle is underway to raise funds. Tickets can be purchased online at stairwaytoheavencmf.org. The website also features updated information on the festival. Primitive camping will be available on-site. Food and vendor items will also be available. Volunteers are needed in many capacities. Sponsors and vendors are also being sought. Special musical entertainment slated Music is in the air at Café Olga in Coudersport, with more events recently added to the schedule. On Saturday (tonight), Every Tom, Jeff and Larry will be performing rock ‘n roll favorites starting at 7 pm. On Tuesday, May 4, host band will be Jakob’s Hollow for a free “open mic” format starting at 7 pm. Singers and instrumentalists are welcome. The big event is the Saturday, May 8, Songwriter’s Roundtable. Joining host Jakob’s Hollow will be the bluegrass favorites, Fellswoop, from Allentown and noted blues guitarist V. W. Paul from Williamsport. The night kicks off with open mic at 6, followed by the main show at 7:30. Admission is $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for those under age 18. There will be a Mexican theme in recognition Cinco de Mayo. Caregiver programs has openings Potter County Area Agency on Aging has openings in the Family Caregiver Support Programs, which assist those who are helping older relatives or friends stay at home and as remain as independent as possible. Programs provide funds for caregiving, as well as assistive devices (bedside commode, lift chair, etc.) and home modifications (ramps, grab bars, stair lifts) on a limited basis. Reimbursement rates for services and supplies vary, based upon household income, and range from $200-$300 per month. An additional funding stream covers home modifications and assistive devices, to a maximum lifetime amount up to $2,000. Fellswoop, recording artist and festival favorite, brings its instrumental and vocal fun to the Songwriters Roundtable in Coudersport on Saturday night, May 8. CCHS Class of 1985 plans reunion Members of the Cameron County High School class of 1985 will gather for their 25th reunion July 30 through Aug. 1. Activities will include a memorial bowling tournament on Friday night, a fishing derby on Saturday morning and a dinner and dance at the Emporium Country Club on Saturday night.
