TRUMAN PARKWAY Suite 105 ANNAPOLIS, MD 21401 410-222-7856/301-261-8036 May 20, 2014 Dear Parent or Guardian, The Anne Arundel County Department of Recreation and Parks is pleased to offer state licensed Summer School Age Child Care (SACC). We would like to extend a warm welcome to your family. Enclosed is a packet for the individual center that you have registered your child(ren) for. This packet contains some information about planned activities, field trips, and schedules your child will be participating in for the summer. A full copy of the weekly Planning Calendar (arts & crafts, snacks and organized games) will also be posted in the Parent Information Center at your child’s summer program. A copy of our Parent’s Manual is available at www.aacounty.org/recparks > School Age Child Care > Quick Links. This manual includes information about overall SACC guidelines and reminders. If you have any questions or concerns in relation to the summer program, please don’t hesitate to contact one of the members of the child care staff in our SACC Administrative Office at 410-222-7856. Thank you again, and welcome! Sincerely, Recreation Supervisor 2 Introduction to the Program GENERAL PROGRAM INFORMATION The center will be open beginning Wednesday, June 25, 2014 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. All locations will be closed on Friday, July 4, 2014. There will be a full complement of arts and crafts, sports/active games, field trips, enrichment programs, and special events. Any special events and/or reminders will be posted on a bulletin board located in the Parent Information Center by the sign in/out area. Please be aware that the schedule of activities, events, and trips is subject to change based on weather and other factors beyond our control. Parents will be made aware of any changes to scheduled events by the center staff. We would like all of the children to be able to participate in all of our fun and creative activities. Please be sure that your child (ren) wears appropriate clothing and shoes for gym or outside activities. (Shorts and tennis shoes are preferred attire, rather than skirts and sandals.) It is SACC policy that children not bring toys, games, collectible cards, Nintendo DS players, Game Boys, I-Pods or any other electronic devices from home. The SACC program is not responsible for money or other personal items that your child may bring to the program. DAILY SIGN IN / SIGN OUT PROCEDURES A parent or guardian must go into the building to sign their child in for the morning program and out at the time of pick up each afternoon. Children are not permitted to sign themselves in and out of the program. Children will be released only to the individuals (13 years and older) authorized to pick up the child. No child will be released to a person other than the authorized individual without prior written permission from the child’s parent or guardian. This policy must be strictly adhered to for the protection and safety of your child. Please be advised that any person unknown to the staff will be asked to provide a photo ID before your child is released to their care. SNACKS/LUNCH A snack will be provided in the morning and afternoon. The children must provide their own lunch but we will provide the drink. Please send lunches that DO NOT need to be refrigerated or heated in the microwave. Lunches for field trip days must be completely disposable, including drinks (parents must provide the drink on field trip days only). It is recommended that a bottle of water be frozen to keep their lunch cold while on the trip. Water fountains are also available within the center; however, you may send your child with their own water bottle to refill. Please mark your child’s lunch and/or water bottle with their name. FIELD TRIPS We also have some fun field trips planned! All of the field trip permission slips will be given to you in a packet and will be available the first day of Summer SACC. A permission slip for each field trip that your child will be attending MUST be completed, signed and given to the Center Director several days before the field trip so appropriate arrangements can be made in advance. You may turn in the permission slips all at once, or one at a time. Please pay special attention to any specific instructions on each slip. Please be aware that children are not permitted to bring money on field trips. Each child will be given one Summer SACC T-shirt that MUST be worn on the day the field trip is scheduled. 3 Please be aware that you must drop off your child at the time designated on the field trip permission slip so that your child is on time for staff instructions before meeting the bus. If you arrive late and your child misses the bus, you will need to make alternative child care arrangements for the entire day. If your child will NOT be going on the field trip, you will need to make alternative child care arrangements for the entire day. The Anne Arundel County Department of Recreation & Parks contracts with bus companies utilized by the Board of Education. Please be aware that school buses often do not contain air conditioning. Staff brings water and supplies to assist children with being as cool and comfortable as possible on the bus. Parents are welcome to attend any of our Summer SACC Field Trips with the following provisions. If you are interested in attending a Summer SACC Field Trip, you should notify your Center Director at least two business days in advance of the trip. Please be aware that parents are unable to ride the bus, and will need to provide their own transportation and any applicable entrance fees into the field trip location. Finally, please be aware that field trips may be altered or rescheduled due to a forecast of inclement weather. Parents will be made aware of any changes to scheduled field trips by the center staff. Please watch for notices posted at the Parent Information Center when picking up and dropping off your child. SUNSCREEN If your child needs sunscreen, Chap Stick, bug spray, etc. you must complete the “Permission to Apply Over-the-Counter Creams and Ointments” form that is included in this packet. Additional forms will be available at your child’s center. Please provide a separate bottle of lotion for each individual child (child’s name must be marked on the container). Siblings may not share. Please apply sunscreen to your child before dropping them off in the morning. Opportunities will be provided during outdoor field trips and outdoor play to re-apply sunscreen during the SACC day. With your written permission (see Permission to Apply Over-the-Counter Creams and Ointments form), staff may assist children with applying sunscreen to hard-to-reach areas.
