SCHOOL SECURITY: We would appreciate if you could use either of the following numbers to report
any security issues at our school: 9264 4771 or 1800 177 777
This weekend is a big occasion for our school. Our Grounds Committee, ably coordinated by Paul
Buckman, has reached the culmination of many months of planning, negotiating and creating to get to the
point where our Nature Playground can physically rise from the undergrowth. It’s almost impossible to
quantify the groundwork carried out by the team. It has involved bringing together a large group of
volunteers (Dads and friends) who are willing to get together to cut, saw, lift, dig, carry and put in a great
deal of muscle work to build the playground. Many local businesses have been contacted and asked to
donate materials and heavy machinery including bobcats, compactors and dingoes. Meetings have been
held between Paul Buckman, who is overseeing to project, and Department of Education consultants to
ensure that the plans meet the safety standards required in government schools. Trees have been lopped
and beheaded to supply some the construction materials. A team of Mums and friends will be on site
throughout Saturday to feed and water the workers.
The P&C organised a very successful Quiz Night to raise the necessary funds, and many of our children
sketched imaginative ‘dream playgrounds’, elements of which have been included in the plans. So, in
some way, almost every member of the school community has contributed to the project.
This is one of the biggest undertakings to take place at Booragoon PS for many years, and we would
appreciate any additional support in the way of manpower on Saturday. The more hands available, the
easier it will be to complete the job, so if you, or anyone you know could come down to school, even for
an hour, we would be thrilled.
If the plan comes together (and why wouldn’t it – this is Booragoon PS after all) we will have a wonderful
playground for our kids on Monday.

Hi Everyone
Co-operation is working in harmony with others to achieve a goal which you can
not achieve alone and which benefits all. Cooperation often requires a certain
amount of self control and empathy and letting go of something you may want, to
solve conflicts. It can feel good when you work as a team. Respond, don't react, and
use “I” messages if something is bothering you, for example "I feel mad when you
take my things." This leads to communication which can resolve problems more
than saying nasty comments.
Doing projects with classmates shows when you come together to cooperate,
great things can be achieved. Co-operation is not beneficial when peer pressure pushes you to go along with
things you know you shouldn't. True cooperation leads to a positive goal.

LIBRARY NEWS
We are very excited to announce that Booragoon PS has recently launched an eBook Library, allowing students to borrow and read books electronically after registering for an account. Registration
forms can either be downloaded from the website below or collected from the Library, and once registered students can use almost any personal device to sign in and download eBooks (including MacBooks, iPads, tablets, eReaders etc). Alternatively the library will soon have a small collection of
eReaders available for loan for a two-week period. Our eLibrary is fairly small at the moment, mainly
catering for students in Years 4-7, however we hope to expand our collection in the future to include
a wider range of eBooks for all year levels.
See the BPS Library website (http://booragoonpslibrary.weebly.com/
ebooks.html) for more information about our new eLibrary, including instructions for borrowing and downloading eBooks. If you have any further questions please don't hesitate to see me.
