Mike O’Hare & Ron Woodward have been at the top for as long as I can remember. Now, due to
family commitments, Mike has decided to take a break from the sport after many years of building a
team that has won prolifically in club, fed, combine, classic and national racing. Because Ron wants
to carry on racing however, the decision has been made to keep the 2014 young birds. All other
pigeons are to go. The pigeons for sale are the proven stock birds and the proven race team.
The old bird race team consists of lots and lots of winners from club to national level. In 2014 they
won the NFC Section L averages racing from 300 to 698 miles and the much coveted Lancashire
Rose Trophy.
Mike & Ron: “From 2002 to 2009 we won 142 x 1st prizes in the club and 28 x 1st Fed. From 2005
we have progressively concentrated on classic and national racing winning Champion Sprint Loft in
Section B of the NWCC in 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010 and Overall Champion in 2008 and 2009 and
Section B Supreme Champion Loft in 2011. Since we joined the NFC in 2005 winning 1st Section L,
4th Open Fougeres in our very first race we have gradually geared our efforts towards the National
racing winning Section L of the NFC 3 times and the North West Sect of the MNFC twice with many
results in the top 10 of the Section, which is the yardstick we use to judge performance. All our
young birds are required to fly the channel at least once, if fit, and in this way we have produced a
loft of pigeons capable of competing with distinction at middle distances in any company. The
results of this policy are probably best illustrated by this year’s tough Young Bird National from
Falaise 312 miles, when after 5 days in the baskets the birds were liberated into a north-east wind
and only 20 birds made it into Section L on the day. We were 4th, 12th, 14th and 20th Section and
also won 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 7th and 8th in the Gold Ring Race (264 rings sold in Sect L) and were also
1st Open Gold Ring, Bandwidth C, over 300 miles. The strength of our birds is reflected in the 4 club
channel races sent to in 2014 sending between 2 and 6 birds and winning 3 x 1st and prizing in the
other.”
Remember: only the young birds are being retained for Ron to race.
These are all pigeons bred to win and breed winners - that’s what they were introduced for.
