SELF CARE FROM THE INSIDE OUT

COURSE OUTLINE
At the safety demonstration before a flight takes off, you will hear these words, “If you are
travelling with a child or someone who requires assistance, put on and secure your (oxygen)
mask first, and then assist the other person.” Self- care is pretty much like that – caring for
yourself first so that you can care for others.
The Satir Model, founded by Virginia Satir (1916-1988), is based on a foundational belief
that all human beings have a life force and are capable of continued growth, change and
new understanding.
The self-care journey starts by reconnecting to one’s life force. It helps us to become aware
of our feelings, judgments, beliefs, rules, attitudes, expectations and methods of coping that
we have learned. When we are aware, we become empowered to choose, decide, manage
and transform our own internal world and to interact in a more positive way with other people
and the environment.
This three-day workshop will increase your capacity for self-care and lead to:

Decreased stress levels

Increased morale

Improved health

More fulfilling relationships

Better work performance

Greater resilience under pressure
As this is an experiential workshop, participants must be willing to engage in self-disclosure
to learn and grow.

At the end of the workshop, participants will learn how to:

Develop their “iceberg awareness”

Manage reactive emotions

Create changes and new patterns of coping
This workshop is for personal growth. It is not group therapy nor is it intended to provide
personal therapy.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
Social workers, social service practitioners, counsellors and the helping professionals should
