at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Jamesburg, NJ.
We have added six new seminars to our schedule this year, with five classes in water
conservation. Additionally, please join us for a cocktail networking reception at 5:00pm after
your day of learning for the IANJ Business & Board Meeting. Our three business-specific
learning tracks are:
Business Track – designed to help you better manage your irrigation contractor business
and enhance your marketing and sales skills.
Maintenance Track – will help provide the expertise needed in maintaining electrical
oversight.
Design Track – courses in new and advanced irrigation landscape designs and
technology

choice of classes - the Backflow Re-Certification Class on Monday, January 19th is limited to 20
attendees. We will also have our suppliers on hand for our trade show on Tuesday, January 20th

Description: Learn how to properly use volt-ohm meters and how to diagnose wiring problems based on their readings.
Diagnose field wiring problems without leaving the controller. Learn the most effective steps to sort out confusing

Description: This is an introductory level class on irrigation system design. It begins with an introduction to the
equipment and parts used in a residential irrigation system. The theoretical foundations of proper irrigation design such
as hydraulics, pipe sizing, pressure loss calculations and precipitation rates are thoroughly covered. The correct selection
of sprinkler heads, head placement, proper zoning and final plan preparation are also covered. This is a great course for
beginners or a great review for experienced contractors. BRING A CALCULATOR!
Site Water Management

Description: Efficient landscape water use has never been more important than at present. Learn how to manage all
aspects of a site’s water usage by understanding and utilizing the Best Management Practices (BMPs )developed by the
American Society of Irrigation Consultants (ASIC) and the Irrigation Association (IA). BMPs provide a template for managing
a site’s water usage by offering practice guidelines for design, installation, resource management and maintenance. Using
and managing alternative water sources will also be covered. Irrigation professionals will learn strategies to manage
landscape water usage and predict future usage while maintaining healthy and functional landscapes.

Drip Irrigation

Description: (pick up from 2014) Drip irrigation is becoming a more integral part of many irrigation systems; whether
residential or commercial. Properly designed, installed and maintained, drip irrigation can help achieve a healthy
landscape while reducing water usage. However, there are several basic things irrigation professionals must understand
and implement in order to achieve successful outcomes using this method of irrigation.
This course teaches the irrigation professional the key elements they need to get successful results using drip irrigation.
The focus is on improving contractor profitability and ensuring end-user satisfaction

MEET THE SPEAKERS…
CRAIG BORLAND
Craig Borland has worked for Toro Irrigation/Irritrol for the past 17 years. During that time he has managed
the Controller Repair Department and the Service Center Repair program, and also held positions as Warranty
Administrator, Inside Sales rep, and is currently working as a Sr. Customer Resource Specialist in the Irrigation
Division’s Customer Resource Center. Craig provides technical support for the Engineering, Legal, Technical
Support and Marketing departments, and the Micro division, among many others. He holds a B.S. in Fruit
Science with a Minor in Ornamental Horticulture from Cal Poly–San Luis Obispo. He has taught classes for the
Irrigation Association for the past 10 years, and also serves on the IA Education Foundation Committee as a
Subject Matter Expert.
ART ELMERS
Art Elmers has been involved in the Irrigation Industry for over forty years. Currently employed as the
Northeast District Sales Manager for Netafim USA, he is experienced in designing, installing, servicing, and
selling all types of irrigation systems. Art has been involved in all facets of irrigation industry: contracting,
distribution, and manufacturing. He is an IA certified instructor and teaches many of the certification and
review courses offered by the IANJ. Art serves as a Trustee for the Irrigation Association of NJ.
MEET THE SPEAKERS…
TED MORIARTY
Ted Moriarty CIC, CID, CLIA has worked in the irrigation industry for 27 years. He has worked in distribution
and for two major manufacturers of irrigation equipment. Currently, Ted is the owner of Smart Watering
Company, an irrigation consulting business whose services include design, irrigation system audits and
assessments, developing water management programs, installation, and maintenance. Ted has been an IA
instructor since 1997, and is a Past President of the Irrigation Association of New England.
ROY NAU
Roy has 11 years experience in design installation and maintenance of residential and commercial landscape
irrigation systems, landscape lighting systems and drainage systems. He is currently employed by Princeton
Irrigation Specialists, Robbinsville, NJ. Retired from Telcordia Technologies in 2001 as Director of Learning
Services after thirty two years in the telephone industry, and also retired from the Navy Reserve as a Chief
Warrant Officer (CWO4) in 2004 after 38 years of service. Roy graduated from Southern Methodist University
School of Engineering and Applied Science with a Masters Degree in Telecommunications Engineering.

CHRIS PINE
Chris is the president of C.Pine Associates Inc., which provides marketing, consulting and training services for
manufacturers, distributors and contractors, primarily in the Eastern United States and Eastern Canada. Prior
to this, Chris worked in sales management for two major manufacturers in the irrigation industry. He owned
and operated a successful landscape and irrigation contracting business for 15 years, which was sold in 2000.
Chris is active in many industry trade organizations, serving on boards, committees and is recognized as an
accomplished trainer. He is certified with the Irrigation Association as a commercial Designer, Landscape
Water Manager, Irrigation Contractor and Landscape Irrigation Auditor, as well as being a Massachusetts
Certified Landscape Professional. Chris currently lives on Cape Cod in Southeastern Massachusetts.
