Group of seven carved stone standing figures. The tallest is depicted with
a swollen stomach, probably indicating pregnancy. A medium green-black
speckled hardstone example with round breasts. Together with five additional examples of various types, two having Olmecoid influence. The
largest example has an ancient chip on her right front leg, otherwise all are
intact. Individually mounted on old wooden bases.

Fragmentary pendant front having a relief carved face. Finally, a small tooth

Three different single strand necklaces including one composed of fortythree speckled green jadeite beads having a large round bead in the center,
various round and cylindrical beads in graduated sizes. Together with a
necklace composed of thirty speckled green jadeite beads, with larger ball
and tubular examples. Finally, a necklace composed of mostly round carnelian and speckled jadeite beads, interspersed with fourteen silver shell
and floral type pendant beads. All modern strung with silver clasps.

right arm to the back of her head. Intact.

three different molded pottery Maya support legs, each decorated with

head. A molded scallop type shell pendant. Together with six various partial figures, face and a double head. All are mounted on old
wood block bases. Some with scattered losses and imperfections.

Both are chocolate paint on white pottery, hollow vessels, first in human
form, the arms forming loops, with hands held to the temples. Body bears
low relief breasts and tint feet at bottom. Significant part of headdress restores, arms reglued. Together wit a round-bodied vessel with relief bird
head becking on a smaller skate or sting ray. Low relief feet and wings on
vessel. Some restoration to lower part of vessel with repaint and visible,
but sturdy crack.

with overall losses. Finally, a carved finial depicting a human head wearing a wide
headband, some remaining painted decoration on the face and headband. All are
individually mounted on old wood bases.

Including a tumi having a large crescent form finial blade, a tupu pin having a large ovoid finial. A large disc, perforated for suspension. A small
spoon, and a chopper having a crescent from blade and a suspension loop
at the top, this probably Western Asian and not Chimu. Simple triangular
decoration along the upper rim with knob finials, possibly made of silver.
Some loss along the blade edge, otherwise intact. Mounted on individual
old wood bases.

Inca conopa depicting a llama of variegated red and brown stone, drilled
open bowl in back. A bone fragment decorated with a fine-line depiction of
a stylized human figure wearing an elaborately decorated poncho, hands
held on stomach. Losses to the upper portion of headdress otherwise intact. A tiny Inca textile bag, decorated with multicolor stylized faces on
both sides. Missing one tiny tassel on the lower corner, otherwise intact.
A Chancay wooden carved scale beam, depicting two openwork canines
having upcurled tails. Intact. A small blackware pottery zoomorphic whistle.
Spout reattached and an ancient loss on the tail. Finally, a small Chancay
pottery figure having a black surface with white highlights. Tips of both legs
reattached and losses to the top corners of head, scattered paint loss. All
are individually mounted on old wooden block bases.

zoomorphic form loop handle at the base of the neck. A large area of restoration on the side of the vessel, overall light surface pitting, with an area
of resurfacing on the neck. Together with a squash form vessel having a
human head spout, two loop handles along the top edge. Rim chip and
several repaired breaks in the body with restoration over the breaklines.

Two blackware pottery vessels including a double lobed sea lion having
a rear spout and strap bridge handle, whistle incorporated in head. Two

rear stirrup spout with a small monkey clinging to the base of the chimney.
A male figure is seated on top of the vessel holding his right hand to his
mouth. Missing his right arm, v-shape chip on the spout rim, spout reattached, surface has been lacquered.

Two blackware pottery vessels including a Chimu gourd form vessel with a
small lizard crouching near the stem, funnel spout with a perforated lug. A
1” restored rim chip and some restoration around the base edge. Together
with a Sican vessel, disc form having a tapered rear spout and strap bridge
handle. A seated dignitary at the front wearing a plumed headdress and ear
discs. Restored chip on the left side of the plume and restored breaks in
the vessels body.

headdress, wide belt and a coca bag on the back, decorated with a stylized
bird. Nose restored, general paint wear, otherwise intact.

A St. Vincent, W. Indies tapered celt with slightly flared tips. Intact. A deep
gray flared celt, perforated through the center. Chip on the corner of the
blade edge and a reattached blade edge chip with a small chip along the
breakline. Finally, a half of a stone celt having a rounded blade edge. All are

rectangular registers, each containing a standing deity wearing a large
crescent form headdress, zoomorphic heads on both sides. Some minor

banded decoration with geometric elements. Several rim chips and some
loss to the painted surface. Finally, a small chocolate ware olla having
simple incised triangular crosshatched elements around the shoulder rim.

rock crystal necklace. A Mexican jadeite bead necklace. A necklace composed of various shell beads. A red-purple carved tiny carved shell beaded
necklace. Together with a similar example having larger shell and stone
beads. A necklace composed of small pottery disc beads. Finally, a pendant composed of a large central quartz pendant flanked with two large
carnelian ball beads, strung on a modern gold plated chain. All are modern
strung approximately 50 years ago.

squared perforation. Finally, a small pottery olla, having a 1” rim chip.

Four different pottery examples including a large undecorated orangeware
bowl with several gray-black firing clouds. Repaired from approximately
twenty-eight original pieces with visible breaklines and a few small losses
along the breaklines. Together with a black and tan, undecorated bowl having a simple incised rim band. Small rim chip, otherwise intact. A blackware
trumpet form vase. Large section of the lip reattached and neck repaired
from three pieces and reattached, some loss along the visible breaklines.
Finally, a ovoid, flat bottomed bowl decorated in low relief around the exterior with four raised panel each depicted two seated chiefs facing each
other. The base is also decorated with two seated chiefs. Repaired from
approximately eighteen original pieces with several losses along the breaklines, poorly glued and may not be ancient.

Areas of loss on the side edges and a sewn repair in the center horizontal
band. Both mounted on wooden backings, under plexiglass.

Including a silver purse decorated with a vine pattern of silver
filigree and set with twenty round agate jewels. Together with
sixteen various silver, copper and brass necklaces, most set with
various agate, carnelian, turquoise coral and paste glass jewels. Most suspended on long silver chains. Many have reliquary
type box pendants decorated with an engraved double dorje on
the reverse. Some have a few missing stones or imperfections.
Finally, three different brass wide collar type necklaces. All heavily decorated and having multi bell lower edges, with remaining
traces of original silvered surfaces.

glass. A large metal peacock brooch with three fish danglers. Five different base silver
reliquary pendants. Three silver chain link bracelets and a metal bracelet. A base silver
cross with danglers suspended on a link chain. A brass pin set with an orange glass
stone. Eight various base silver finger rings, one set with a large lapis stone, three others
set with coral and turquoise. Six various brass and metal pendants, one scoop pendant,
two feline claw pendants, set with filigree base silver settings. A silver fob set with a pale

Mask carved with outcurved projecting forehead with remarkably thin
central wall forming nose, separating triangular eyeholes, and attached to
beak-like mouth below. Slender earholes on sides, and blackened resist
pattern on sides and forehead. Thicker deposits on forehead and traces of
white pigment on nose. Plank superstructure missing, age cracks.

Group of old abstract dolls, one slender figure wrapped in stretched leather
with stitching around the thin crest head, and a braided leather tie around
the neck. Other two carved of tan wood, reduced to cylinder with with expanded caps at base and top, with vertical sagittal crest; perforation in front
of crest and in base. Age cracks and wormwear. Last is a thick figure with
head reduced to crest bearing triangular forms on side with metal adornment. Perforations form facial detail. Body bears rounded chest with triangular breasts, torso with incised pattern. Age cracks, surface wear. Each
on custom base.

Large example of a Mossi doll, probably commissioned for fertility purpose,
carved with swollen abdomen on narrow limbless body, large triangular
breasts, tall neck, and flattened oval head with slight relief nose and tiny
mouth and raised ridge ears. The whole body covered with fitted leather,
stitiching along front and woven checkerboard pattern around neck. Together with a whistle, fine red-brown patina, shiny and well handled. Each
on custom base.

Finely carved marionette head of slender elongated form with tall tapered
coiffure and segmented appendages on sides, delicate face with long nose,
pin prick eyes and small mouth. Metal hoops in ears. Dark brown patina
with encrustation; repair on appendages and back of head, insect wear.
Custom base. Together with a “koredugaso” hobby horse head, carved
with long ears, pierced at end for adornment, extended snout with widened
nub, and open eyeholes. Dark brown patina with pyro-blackened areas.
Minor nicks at edges, surface wear.

Compacted clay figures, an armless figure with notched texture, rounded

Yoruba “omolangidi”, abstract doll of flat rectangular form, may have been
carved for a child or used as a memorial figure, with triangular head, incised
linear pattern and relief breasts. Abstract nature shows the influence of
writing tablets used to teach Arabic and Koran. See E.L. Cameron, “Isnt
S/He a Doll?: Play and Ritual in African Sculpture”, 1996, p. 70. Together
with a small Ibo male figure having elongated head with squared detail,
long neck with scarification, and rectangular body with string of beads,

in updo, protuberant breasts, and shortened legs. Lastly, a fetish bundle,
purportedly Guinea, with cowry shells impressed into organic mass, areas
of cloth visible on back. Each on custom base.

small ovoid head with metal tacks, expanded wide wings, and short tail.
Dark red-brown patina; one foot and beak repaired, edge of wing and tail

ring with two cone forms; small peanut that may have been cast from actual
peanut; couple abstract forms. Also includes a balance scale and a scoop.

Excellent collection of goldweights, varying from birds or hornbills on integral pyramid bases, some with folded wing detail and tail. Two weights with
small birds on base adorned with conjoined spirals. Three display birds
facing their tail with long beak. Three express a hornbill caught by a snake.
Two of birds caught in a trap. Four display a cage with birds atop; one
of these fragmented. Also: bird on a plant; birds on a cockroach; hornbill
couple on a perch; tree of birds. Most refer to a well-known proverb. Generally excellent condition. Save for one, each on custom base.

seated on a curved Ghana stool; staff with arthropod and fish; and 3 stick-like
single figures. Also several animals: bushcow with reddish patina; elephant
with long tusks; cow head; and wearable ring displaying a fish. Several twin
amulet figures, one missing a figure. Also knotted bars and a double knotted
bar weight, plus smaller miscellaneous weights. Almost all on custom base.

in relief; a bone cuff with silver and lapis lazuli clasp; thick ring with extensions; 7 bronze pendants; large cloak pin in form of incised disc with glass
inlay disc in center; ladder gold weight; last is brass pendant with encircled
chi-ro symbol, missing details at edges.

“Biiga” dolls; tallest has rare disc shaped head with relief semi-circles on
sides resembling hairdos, long slender body, and triangular pointed breasts.
The three others have typical compressed hemispherical head with fine incised pattern indicating hair along the crest, one with circular ears, and all
with pointed breasts, navel, and slightly conical torso. All have slight wear
and age cracks, and show good age and use. Each on custom base.

patina. Also a Dogon(?) figure holding hands to face, thick green patina with
deposits. And an Akan goldweight of a spotted feline with long curved tail,
holding small animal in his mouth. One leg missing.

of Osanyin, god of herbal medicine.

Divination tapper, in the form of a horn carved with a female figure, metal
chains with bell suspend from hollowed opening below, and two small axeheads flank the pointed finial. Age crack in front. Together with a separately
carved finial carved elaborately with 8 small layered heads, pointed toward
a spherical ball with linear patterns. Light brown patina with some ochre deposits. Lastly, a small robust female figure, possibly an ibeji, with grooved
hairdo, large eyes, pointed breasts, and partial integral base. Blackened
surface with encrusted deposits. Each on custom base.

Fine ovoid “lukwakongo” mask with rounded forehead textured with pinprick area, incised brows connect to straight nose, and frame relief bean
shaped eyes. Long notches for beard and attachment line tapered chin and
sides of temple. Handsome warm brown polished patina. Custom base. An
important insignia of the Bwami society, the masks were worn on the arm
or displayed at meetings.

encircled crosses on lid and sides. Loss at corner of base, thickly encrusted surface. Smaller rectangular box with concentric diamond pattern on
two sides, checkerboard pattern on lid. Shows much age and use, handle
worn away, smooth dark patina with traces of pigment, red tukula powder
on interior.

Small carved wood figures commissioned by a divination specialist, each
standing on separated legs with torso enveloped in prescribed organic material and covered in cloth. One figure without bundle bears tapered face
with large downcast lids, triangular nose, extended chin, and bound hairdo;
probably strung onto a cord through neck. Each on custom base. Deposit
encrusted dry patinas.

Smallest is Yaka on bent uni-leg with power charged material in abdomen,
small but distinct face with serrated teeth, large bulging eyes, and a pointed
headdress. Black patina with deposits. Plus a Chokwe hunter amulet, of
cylindrical form, with relief arms jutting forward, and cylindrical cap. White
kaolin deposits all over; age cracks. Last is a Songye Janus figure with cavities in chest for power material now removed; face has thick linear pattern,
one face with chin extension, and crest on top of head joins two faces. Dark
brown dry patina; tip of foot lost, minor wormwear. All on custom bases.

bands above and below. Red-brown mellow patina. Small shard lost at rim,

neck support and notched borders on top of pillow. Medium brown patina. Together with an Ethiopian headrest bearing hollow conical base with
grooved panels, and curved neckrest. Black patina; light wear.

Two partial vellum scrolls, the shorter example is decorated with a group of
three semiabstract saints and a large figure wearing a crown and depicted
with raised arms. Written in Geez script, text above and below the figures.
Together with an example decorated with two figures with a cross in between and an upper abstract geometric register with a stylized face in the
center, Geez script text above and below the decorative registers. Lower
portion is from a different scroll. Both are individually framed on plywood
under plexiglas.

Long scroll on vellum having two columns of text and three registers of
illuminations. The illumination at the top depicts a single semiabstract
bearded male figure, probably Christ. Two bearded warriors at the lower
center, holding swords and knives in their belts. At the bottom an angel and
a demonic figure, probably the devil. A few minor imperfections, otherwise
intact, overall exc. cond. A nice example. Mounted in a long frame having
a plexiglas cover.

at waist, indication of facial detail carving, now lost; dark brown mellow
patina. Diminutive figure of crucified Christ, missing arms and cross, repair
on loincloth, paint chipped. Lastly, a narrow elongated Colonial figure, with
pleated skirt and shawl, shoes with rounded toe, and signed on base. Polished warm brown patina. Save for last, each on custom base.
