The new face of Mathews Yacht Club on Stutts Creek really illustrates to any visitor by boat, that we are “The Best Little Yacht Club on the Chesapeake Bay”. This is an improvement that we all can be proud of. Thank you to the ” Roof Over the Deck Committee” members, Stacy Turner, Loyd White and Dave Montgomery, for their advice and dedicated work in planning this project. The Mathews Roof & Skylights in place Yacht Club Board of Directors should also be commended for their wise vision to the future for our club with these improvements. The new roof over the deck and replacement of the existing roof adds a significant improvement to the appearance of our club. We only have one opportunity to make a first impression. These improvements New Up-to-code Electrics will make that important first impression to our members, guest and visitors, which says we are a quality Yacht Club. By covering the deck we are less impacted by weather and will be able to extend the uses of the deck area. Electrical improvements make our electrical system safer and satisfy current needs and offer future expansion. The quality of this project speaks for itself. Take time to go by the Club and check out the work. Enjoy the Holiday Season with your family and friends. DECKLINES December 2014 FLEET CAPTAIN THE SALE LOFT Donald “Chip” Kinsey OUR CRUISING SEASON for 2014 has come to an end. A committee composed of Dan Desmond, Chip Kinsey, and 2013 Cruiser of the Year, Bill Burry, met to decide on the 2014 Mathews Yacht Club Cruiser of the Year. We came to a decision and the winner will be announced at the MYC Annual Meeting. During the selection process the committee discussed the small number of nominees put forward by the membership. In an attempt to increase interest in the Cruiser of the Year, I, as Fleet Captain, have decided to make the award a perpetual trophy, that will be kept in the Club. The winner will receive an engraved glass, the same as all of the Cruise Captains for the year, and will have his/her name engraved on a silver bowl that will be displayed in the Club. This is a common practice in many other Yacht Clubs and I want to see if handling the award in this way increases interest. Because Vashti’s in Gloucester Courthouse is moving, I obtained a very nice silver bowl for the award. If there is no change in interest in the award over the course of next year the policy can be reviewed. Cruise Captains for 2014 were Chip Kinsey, Godwin Jones, Ali Abbasi, Will Story and Jim Coling, and all will be presented with engraved glasses at the Annual Meeting. Thanks to all of the members who participated in the 2014 MYC Cruises. I hope to see even more participants in 2015. FOR SALE – “Suncatcher” 1994 Island Packet 40.
