Georgia’s premier award to recognize those hard working, committed, and successful programs throughout the state – whether you are a support or a competitive squad! The GCCA has always been dedicated to recognizing outstanding athletes and coaches, and now we are on the hunt for the most outstanding overall cheerleading program in Georgia. Cheerleading is about athletics, academics, and service to the community. This award takes all those into consideration in looking at the top programs in our state. Nominate your team for this prestigious award today! Nomination forms are due and must be postmarked by December 5. Videos are due by January 5. Videos should be no longer than 6 minutes and when received will be posted to the GCCA website for state-wide voting. Team Portfolios are due by February 5. Georgia Team of the Year Video Requirements: Each nominated team must submit a video which includes the three required sections below. Videos should be sent in DVD format and will have a maximum length of 6 minutes therefore all sections should be addressed equally and in the following order. Videos are due by January 5. Videos will be posted on the GCCA website at HYPERLINK "http://www.georgiacheer.com" www.georgiacheer.com and will remain open for voting until February 5. Anyone can visit the site to view videos however only GCCA coaches may vote. So coaches, make sure to spread the word in your communities! TECHNICAL SKILLS (2 minutes) May include skills such as motions, dance and jump technique, as well as stunting and tumbling. Spirit teams may include footage from pep rallies, practice sessions, games, youth clinics, etc… Competitive teams may include competition footage, pep rallies, practice sessions, youth clinics, etc… Dual Spirit/Competitive teams may incorporate all areas listed above Teams should also include evidence of crowd involvement, sportsmanship, and team unity SPORTSMANSHIP/COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT (2 minutes) Sportsmanship may include(but is not limited to) interaction with visiting teams on game days and/or at competitions, school spirit, philanthropy projects Community Involvement may include (but is not limited to) interviews throughout the community, game footage, athlete interviews, footage from community service projects CREATIVE SECTION (2 minutes) Team will creatively answer the question: HOW DOES YOUR TEAM ACHIEVE SUCCESS? May include (but is not limited to) a creative skit, short films, pep rally footage, etc… BE CREATIVE!!! May also incorporate team philosophy and/or motto in this section, honor’s awards, recognitions VIDEO DEADLINE IS JANUARY 5TH! Georgia Team of the Year Portfolio Requirements: Each of the following portfolio sections should be submitted (in specified order) by each of the nominated teams no later than February 5. Quick Tip: Think of this as your annual team scrapbook… and have fun with it – so delegate, delegate, delegate! COVER PAGE Include school name, current group photo of team in uniform, and team motto. LIST OF SQUAD MEMBERS Names of team members by squad, athletes’ GPA, team overall GPA COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES Include any community involvement activities with descriptions as well as photographs TEAM ESSAY A comprehensive essay of your team’s philosophy of cheerleading and an explanation of your team motto (stated on your cover page) in 75-100 words HONORS, AWARDS, & RECOGNITIONS (CHEERLEADING) List with a description… may include individual merit, or program merit. May also include photographs HONORS, AWARDS, & RECOGNITIONS (OUTSIDE OF CHEERLEADING) List with description and may also include photographs OTHER SPORTS & ACTIVITIES List of any other sports and/or activities in which the cheerleaders of the program are involved and may also include photographs ENDORSEMENTS Minimum 3, maximum 8 letters of endorsement MUST include one letter from the Athletic Director and one letter from a community member.
