A NEIGHBORHOOD NEWS PUBLICATION
Churchill Estates residents are invited to participate in our annual holiday lights contest. Judging
will take place on Sunday, December 14. Residents who have won during the past three years
will not be eligible to win again, but we still encourage you to decorate. Prizes are gift cards and
they will be awarded on the spot when the Holiday Lights Winner sign is placed in your yard. We
will pick up signs from the winning yards around January 1.
San Antonio Holidays Bring
Luminarias and More
The holiday season in San Antonio is an especially magical time with an array of activities and events.
In this cultural and historic city, relax with a cup of Mexican hot chocolate while beautifully decorated
river barges glide along the River Walk. Bazaars and markets sell one-of-a-kind gifts. Plus, a popular
tamale festival provides the most delicious treats of all.
Thousands of holiday lights adorn the River Walk while many cultural festivities promise an unforgettable getaway. Along the river, almost 200 trees are decorated with twinkling lights and 20 street
bridges are colorfully illuminated with various patterns. The City of San Antonio holds a Light Up
Downtown Holiday Contest that encourages downtown business owners to compete for the most
decorative and creative use of LED lights. The result is a lit up river and street that combines for one
magical holiday destination.
The River Walk is also home to the Ford Fiesta de las Luminarias. This centuries-old tradition takes
place on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from December 5 - December 21, when the River Walk is
lined with several thousand luminarias (small paper lanterns) to symbolically light the way for the
Holy Family. Another River Walk favorite is the Ford Holiday River Boat Caroling. From December
5 - December 21, more than 185 choirs ring in the holidays by singing traditional carols on cruising
barges. The eclectic mix of participants includes bell choirs, folk groups and Latino ensembles.

Greetings from
CEWC
2015 Dues Invoices
to be Mailed in
Late December
December Meeting
Please join us at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 9th for our
annual Christmas celebration! We will be having a pot luck dinner at Mary and Joe Skye’s home, 14623 Reigh Count St. The
club will provide a ham and drinks. Please bring a wrapped “ornament” or Christmas item to exchange (minimum/maximum
value of $10.00).
Look for your 2015 annual
CEHA dues invoice in your mailbox around January 1. Residents
who owe only for 2015 may take a
$10 discount. The annual dues are
$230, or $220 with the discount
if your payment is postmarked no
later than January 31. Residents in
the gated community pay dues to
CEHA as well as to their own association. Check your invoice to
make sure you’re mailing your check to the correct association.
The club will make a donation to the Blue Santa program. Also,
please bring an unwrapped toy to donate. Please call Mary Skye
(422-3110) to RSVP and to coordinate what type of dish you
are bringing (entrée, appetizer, vegetable/side dish, or dessert)
to the celebration.
November Meeting Recap
A special thanks to Scuzzi’s on 1604 for their delicious food and
great hospitality. We had a great group and enjoyed the lovely
atmosphere, the fun entertainment, the excellent food and wine
and the fabulous company!
A resident on Swale reminds
us that if you leave your car
in your driveway or at the
curb overnight, keep the
doors locked. An unlocked
car is very tempting for those
looking for valuables to steal.
Take your garage door opener inside if you leave your car outside. We have had reports of cars being ransacked in the night and
many times the doors had not been locked by the owners.
Upcoming Events
Cindy and Ed Horton will be leaving the neighborhood. Ed retired and we purchased a 44 ft. catamaran sailboat which we will
be sailing from West Palm Beach to the Bahamas before the end
of the year. It has been a pleasure living in Churchill Estates and
we have met so many wonderful people. We will miss you!
We are looking for hosts and co-hosts for our upcoming meetings. Please call Cindy Horton at 789-1036 to volunteer. If you
are interested in a Board position, please call Cindy at your earliest convenience.

• Prevent your pet from drinking water in the tree stand
if you have added preservative chemicals. These can
be poisonous to pets. Also, stagnant water can contain
bacteria, which may lead to vomiting and diarrhea if ingested.
Holiday house plants
Although they add a warm touch, many plants can harm
your pets. Keep these potentially dangerous bloomers well
out of reach.
Holidays bring special cards, gifts decorated with ribbons,
tinsel or yarn, and special decorations like Christmas trees.
Unfortunately, animals appreciate these items, as well —
and many of them can cause serious damage.
• Lilies can be deadly to cats, and many types can cause
cats to have kidney failure.
• Poinsettias, although not as toxic as people often think,
can upset your pet's digestive system.
• Mistletoe, especially the berries, is highly toxic, can
cause stomach upset and has the potential to cause fatal
heart problems.
• Holly can cause vomiting, diarrhea, nausea and lethargy.
• Certain types of ivy, such as English ivy, can also cause
severe harm.
• Amaryllis can cause vomiting and diarrhea.
• Hibiscus can cause diarrhea.
Christmas trees
• Anchor trees securely. Climbing cats and dogs with
wagging tails can knock over your tree.
• Hang breakable, glass ornaments well out of reach. The
small glass and metal fastenings can be stepped on or
even swallowed by your pet.
• Keep tinsel, ribbons and garland out of pets' reach, especially cats that are intrigued by them. These can become lodged in their intestines, cause obstructions and
lead to surgery or death.
• Clean up pine needles frequently. They can be toxic
when eaten by your pet.
