Culture of Entrepreneurship: The case of Hyundai
Motor India
Byung June Chun, Ph.D.
Chung-ang University
Byung June Chun is professor of management at Chung-ang University. He received his
Ph.D. in management at the University of Oregon. Currently he is working on the project of
identifying the success factors of Korean companies in global market. He teaches
organizational behavior, human resource management, organization theory and leadership at
Ching-ang University. He wrote three books with his colleagues, ‘Management”, “The
History of Performance Appraisal Systems of Korean Firms” and “Strategy of Creating
Shared Value”. He has been the program chair and vice president of Korean Academic
Society of Business Administration since 2012, which is the biggest academic association of
professors and practitioners in business administration field in Korea. His research area
includes leadership, motivation and cross cultural issues of organizational behavior.
Abstract: Hyundai Motor has achieved great success in global emerging markets that includes
Indian market. As a typical emerging market, India has poor infrastructure for automobile
industry, great uncertainty and institutional voids. Expatriate managers of Hyundai Motor
Group in India showed astonishing entrepreneurship and overcame barriers of Indian market.
Not like other expatriate managers in India, who just complain the poor infrastructure and
passively conform to the local regulations, HMI people creatively solved difficulties that
threaten their survival and proactively built their own value chain there. The success of HMI
is originated by the Hyundai’s organizational culture that emphasizes on entrepreneurship
and problem solving with creativity. Hyundai’s entrepreneurial culture is deeply rooted by its
founder Chung Joo Young who built his own conglomerate from bare hands. Hyundai’s
12
entrepreneurial culture will be analyzed and implication of the success of Hyundai Motor
India for new emerging market in Asia will be also addressed.

Modelling of the Electronic Properties of Graphene and
its Application to Field Effect Transistors
Jeffrey F. Webb
Associate Professor
Faculty of Engineering
The University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus
Jeffrey F. Webb – Biography
Jeff Webb is an Associate Professor at The University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus;
Nottingham is a world class university ranked in the top 100. He has a physics background
and his research interests involve theory and modelling in the following areas: graphene,
quantum cascade laser materials, and ferroelectric materials and devices. He has published
over 80 papers in international conferences and journals; and has been an invited and keynote
speaker in several international conferences as well as being active in organizing international
conferences. He has also edited several research books and contributed chapters to an number
of research monographs. Jeff has a wide range of international experience and has worked in
some of the top universities in Asia including Nanjing University in China as a visiting
Scholar, Fudan University, China as a visiting professor and Seoul National University in
Korea as a postdoctoral fellow. He has also spent time as a researcher at the Mechanical
Engineering Laboratory in Tsukuba, Japan.
SUMMARY
This talk will be about a mainly analytical approach to the modelling of the electronic
properties of graphene; the significance for modelling graphene-channel field effect
transistors (FETs) will also be discussed. The main theoretical basis is the tight-binding
model of graphene in which only the pi electrons are assumed to be involved in conduction,
with the other electrons tightly bound to the atoms and not participating in conduction. The
advantage of this approach is that the Schrodinger equation for a graphene sheet can be
14
solved exactly and does not require a large computational effort. It is also possible to adapt
the approach to deal with a graphene nano-ribbon which may be a more realistic approach for
FET modelling.
