Malaysia Electrical Equipment often being integrated with some electronic devices in them, to make it work smarter. What used to be a simple ceiling fan with its regulator directly connected, now often include with some electronic devices to make it able to be control remotely. Malaysia Air-conditioner with electronic inverter improved its energy consumption. Malaysia Electronic Equipment • Consumer Electronic Equipment are mainly radio receivers, MP3 players, video recorders, DVD players, Hi-Fi set, TV set, video and visual display unit, audio player unit and also office equipment such as personal computers, printers, scanners, etc. • Other equipment include electronic ballasted fluorescent lamp, LED lighting, self-ballasted CFL. Consumer Electronic Equipment Malaysia Malaysia Ensuring Safety of Electronic Equipment (Malaysia’s Perspective) Malaysia Under the Malaysian Electricity Regulation 1994 A Certificate of approval (COA) is required for the importation or manufacturing of electrical appliances or equipment. The type of appliances or equipments refer to are as follows: – any domestic equipment; – any equipment which is usually sold direct to the general public; or – any equipment which does not require special skills in its operation, Approved electrical appliances or equipment are required to be affixed with safety labels before being sold to public. Approved label Fake label Challenges Malaysia • Electrical & Electronics Equipment developed so fast. Standards for electronic products may be reviewed frequently. • Manufacturers of such products may from time to time required some changes their production process. TV sets in the old days TV sets ini 1990s TV set in 2000s Malaysia Desktop and laptop progress much faster Desktop & laptop in 1990s Desktop & laptop in 2000s Desktop & laptop in 2010s Malaysia Challenges • Household electrical products which are normally connected to power socket outlet have become hybrid products which can be remotely controlled or operated by itself. Such products may fall under electrical products, electronics products or communication products. Vacuum cleaner + electronic devices = remote control machine Malaysia In Conclusion: Other Challenges of EE equipment • Fast progress technology – a new model today will be override by a newer model in within months. • Counterfeit products normally lower in quality and production cost, hence safety and performance are being compromised. • Secondhand EE products from a country are being disposed to other countries at a much lower price. The receiving countries will become a dumping ground of the exported countries. • It is hard to prevent user from purchasing unapproved products because of its lower price.
