AWARDS CEREMONY &
SCREENING:
Monday, April 13
RPL Film Theatre • 7:00 pm
Regina Public and Saskatoon Public
Libraries are challenging young
directors to create and submit
book trailers during the month of
March, to see which city has the
most creative talent. The city with
the most submissions will win the
coveted Golden Trailer Trophy,
and have bragging rights for the
rest of the year, too.
All participating Regina filmmakers
will be invited to a screening and
awards ceremony on Monday,
April 13 at 7:00 pm in the RPL
Film Theatre.
Ages 12 -
18
WHAT’S A BOOK TRAILER?
It’s like a movie trailer—for your favourite book!
Of course, since movie trailers use actual footage
from the film, and books do not have footage,
you have to create the visual content yourself.
Your trailer should show the reasons why
everyone should read this book. This may mean
acting out a scene or scenes, showing who the
characters are, or just explaining the plot.
WHO CAN ENTER?
Saskatchewan residents between the ages of 12
and 18: Note: Participants are only allowed to
submit their Book Trailer to either Regina Public
Library or Saskatoon Public Library -- NOT
BOTH!
WHAT’S IN IT FOR ME?
1) It’s a fun way to share the books you love
with other people.
2) To show Saskatoon that Regina is on the
cutting edge when it comes to creativity.
3) Oh, and did we mention prizes? Because:
PRIZES!
The creators of the Top 5 RPL Book Trailers
will receive:
• 1st Prize: $200 Cornwall Centre Gift Card
• 2nd Prize: $100 Cornwall Centre Gift Card
• 3rd Prize: $50 Cornwall Centre Gift Card
• 1st Runner-up: $25 Cornwall Centre Gift Card
• 2nd Runner-up: $25 Cornwall Centre
Gift Card
For full contest details, including
rules and regulations, visit ReginaLibrary.ca/showus.

Sherwood
Village Branch
a meeting place for
fun activities
Sherwood Village Branch is a meeting hub and destination location for
residents of the booming and developing northwest end of Regina.
“We have many young families who
visit – not just from the surrounding
neighbourhoods, but also Lumsden,
Craven and Balgonie,” Branch Head
Trudi Stafford said.
Stafford, Assistant Branch Head Sarah,
and the entire team at Sherwood
Village Branch, provide a welcoming
atmosphere for long-time patrons and
newcomers alike. Public Service Clerks
Janice, Joanne, Helen and Arlene have
a ready smile when patrons walk in the
door.
The branch offers a variety of
educational and engaging programs
for families and patrons of all ages.
Library Assistant Cathy puts the fun
in pre-school programs, promoting
early literacy using rhymes, crafts,
music and storytelling. “Cathy is always
ready to offer parents and teachers
suggestions for new and amazing picture
books to read with their children and
classrooms,” Stafford said.
38
Library Assistant Tereza's term at
Sherwood will be ending soon, but in
her time at the branch she has had a
tremendous impact on its Adult and
Teen programs. With offerings such
as “Learn to Face Paint,” “DIY Your
Own Jewelry,” “Holiday Cards” and
“Winter Bouquets,” it’s no wonder this
branch has lots of participants in their
programs. Sherwood is also known for its effective
support with technology. Need help
setting up your e-reader or downloading
e-books? Staff such as Cheri, Meghan,
and Steve are knowledgeable and ready
to assist you.
Patrons feel welcome and at home in
the large, open space that is Sherwood.
Library pages Carol and Paige move
throughout the branch, ensuring books
are shelved properly and lending a hand
to patrons in the stacks.
Regina Public Library • January | February • 2015
The branch recently underwent
renovations to help serve patrons.
“We’re excited about our new parking
lot and new carpeting.” Stafford said.
“And coming soon we’ll have new
comfortable seating in the Adult and
Children’s areas!” Sherwood is also an art destination
in the community with its very own
Dunlop Art Gallery space that features
many wonderful and interesting exhibits
throughout the year. Have a little
budding artist on your hands? Check
out our Baby Art Crawl or Baby Picasso

EXHIBITIONS
BILIANA VELKOVA: SPLENDID
Curated by Blair Fornwald,
Assistant Curator
Bulgarian-Canadian artist Biliana
Velkova’s exhibition reflects on
how culture and commerce shape
our perceptions of nature, which
in turn contribute to a sense of
national identity. Photographs
depict Velkova as a symbol of
Disneyfied “Canadianness,”
wearing elegant fairy tale gowns,
surrounded by magnificent
scenery. A massive white neon
prairie landscape drawing further
emphasizes the commercial
appeal of “the Canadian wild.”

MATERIAL GIRLS
Curated by Wendy Peart, Blair
Fornwald, and Jennifer Matotek
Material Girls is about women
taking up space. Comprised
of works by female artists
from across artistic disciplines
and cultural backgrounds, the
exhibition is an exploration of
material processes and notions
of excess as they relate to the
feminized body, gendered space,
and capitalist desire. Sumptuous,
decorative, and visually
overwhelming, Material Girls fills
the normally-austere gallery to
its very limits.

TRICIA MIDDLETON: JOY IS
REALLY JUST MELANCHOLY
WITH A REALLY STRONG SENSE
OF PURPOSE
Curated by Wendy Peart, Blair
Fornwald, and Jennifer Matotek
Montreal-based artist Tricia
Middleton’s immersive installations
are as fantastical, glistening, and
seductive as they are horrific. An
uneasy marriage of materials and
process, the artist incorporates
castoffs and debris from consumer
culture, byproducts from her
studio production, and common
construction and craft supplies,
grafting them together in precarious,
playful ways that mimic natural
processes of growth, accumulation
and decay.

RPL Film Theatre, 2311-12th Ave.
Part of an ongoing series of
performances, Métis artist Amy
Malbeuf—dressed as an ambiguous
otherworldly being—uses a
fertilizer spreader to disperse
stained salt onto the ground. By
pushing the spreader in a circular
motion, she creates a ring of colour
in the landscape, a symbol that
invites a myriad of interpretations
both sacred and profane. This
performance is presented in
conjunction with Dunlop Art
Gallery's large-scale group
exhibition, Material Girls and will
be followed by an artist talk
by Malbeuf.
Performance: Saturday, Jan. 31, 3:00 pm
Smith St. & 12th Ave.

Excellent prizes, including gift
certificates, will be awarded to
the top 3 winners and 3 runners
up in each category. Winners will
also be displayed at RPL Central
