WINTER SAFETY
Winter is here. Here is a friendly reminder of some helpful winter safety tips:
♦
Dress warmly in loose-fitting, layered clothes and wear hat, mittens and boots if you go
outside. Cover your mouth with a scarf to protect your lungs.
♦ Seal drafts from doors and windows. Close off unused rooms.
♦ Keep heat sources at least 3 feet away from furniture and drapes. Never place a space
heater on top of furniture or near water.
♦ Drink warm liquids - no caffeine or alcohol. Alcoholic drinks cause your body to lose
heat faster.
♦ Pay attention to any travel warnings & avoid icy roads. Stay indoors and drive only if it
is necessary. Walk slowly on snowy and icy walkways.
♦ Let someone know where you are going and when you expect to arrive.
♦ Be sure to have emergency supplies (water, canned/no-cook food, non-electric can opener, first-aid kit,
flashlight/extra batteries, medicines, shovel, cell phone, road maps, emergency flares, extra clothes/
blanket, etc.) in your car and home.
♦ Watch for signs of hypothermia (uncontrolled shivering, slow speech, memory loss, stumbling, sleepiness
& extreme tiredness).
♦ Keep the gas tank full that will keep the fuel line from freezing.
Schaumburg Township Supervisor Mary Wroblewski
and the Township Officials wish you Happy Holidays!
