teachers need orientation and training in effective teaching. As

Dr.Sagunthala R&D Institute of Science and
T e c h n o l o g y , A v a d i , C h e n n a i is organizing a Faculty
Development Programme (FDP) on the topic “ Big Data
Analytics with Hadoop”. These two days FDP will be an
excellent opportunity to listen to the experts in this field and also
to discuss about the underlying intention in areas applications.
It has become important for the educators and practicing
Engineers, to continuously update their knowledge and skills in
evidence-based practice strategies, small group facilitation,
active lecturing, and the productive use of technology which
also helps the researchers and faculty members to update their
research skills.
Boarding and lodging will be provided in the Institute Hostels
on chargeable basis on request.
The goal of these programs is to ensure the growth of skill and
knowledge among professionals and to foster individual
commitment to continuing education among IEEE members, the
engineering and scientific community and the general public.
IEEE provides various university and corporate partner
programs, online learning resources and certificate programs
through its continuing education offerings for students and
professionals. These continuing education offerings a l s o
provide access to technical courses at conferences and section
meetings, society education programs and various print
materials. The IEEE has more than 4000,000 members in 160
countries. The IEEE publishes more than 1,000 leading-edge
conference proceedings every year, which are recognized by
academia and industry worldwide as the most vital collection of
consolidated published papers in electrical engineering,
computer science and related fields. Student branches provide
an opportunity for student members to begin networking in their
areas of interest and future profession. There are nearly 2,000
student branches in 80 countries at various educational
institutions.
IEEE Madras Section
IEEE Madras Section came into existence in 1973 and has
crossed its silver jubilee year. IEEE Madras Section has an
active membership of 2500 life/ senior members/ members. The
student membership is around 7500. The IEEE Madras
Section conducts technical lectures, symposiums and
conferences by eminent personalities from several fields.
The section is concerned about the welfare of the students in
this part of the country and wants to improve the teaching
learning process in the Engineering Colleges and Universities.
With this in mind, the section is organizing Faculty
Development Programme (FDP) for the teaching faculty
members of Engineering Colleges and Universities in
Tamilnadu, India.
Course Contents:
Day-1:
 Introduction to Big Data & Hadoop
 Getting Started with Hadoop
 Hadoop deployment

 MapReduce
 PIG
 HIVE
Participants
Faculty from a Technical Universities/Engineering Colleges of
Tamilnadu can participate. The objective of the course is to
impart the ability to communicate better with the students.
Course Fee
There is course fee of Rs.500/- for IEEE members and for nonmembers Rs. 1000/-. The fee includes course kit and lunch. The
number of seat is limited and the participant will be chosen on a
first come- first-serve basis.
Schedule
The FDP on “Big Data Analytics with Hadoop” is proposed to
be held on 29th and 30th December 2014. This FDP will be for
two days consisting of 5 theory sessions and 3 hands–on training
sessions and will be handled by leading experts in the respective
domain.
