OUR MISSION
From the idea to its application.
To like your job is the best way to do it very well. Following this concept we have always designed
our products focusing our attention to their application, so that “from the idea to its application” is
not only a slogan but it has always been our method of job shared by management and
collaborators. The red line which has always linked together all the efforts of the company, is to turn
ideas into products concentrating on their applications. We have developed this concept in order to
build a corporate assets made of good clients and our own “Know How”. We have later increased the
number and the “quality” of our clients and we have developed our products starting from the
drawing. This has been our mission. We don’t think to have achieved it yet, because we must not
ever regard ourselves as arrived to the top and we can always improve ,but we can strongly affirm
that our company offers a range of interesting products, so that we have been able to enter in the
global international market. Since 1994 when in Florence Electrical Fair we showed the circuit
breaker MV unit with isolator below and breaker above, which has been lately adopted by all the
players of the MV market; then the first SF6 three positions switch , the CB and the new Ring Main
Unit, also available in the extendible version. At last the Internal Arc Proof Compact Station.
Following our corporate policy we have created several products completely designed by us and
realized under our direct control that starts from the components and arrives to the applications.
Today we can say that SEL can cover every necessity of the secondary MV Distribution up to 40.5 kV
with its products. As told before we haven’t reached the top yet and very soon will arrive other new
products that will hopefully let us go on working and exporting our job Our mission is to take up the
challenge of the global market using the high technological content of our job and products, in order
to be leading players also in countries where it is not possible to compete on costs of production. It
is still possible to take up the challenge of the global market thanks to the pleasure that we find in
doing our job and to the cleverness of the people who work in this company.

HISTORY
Founders of SEL , Alessandro and Leonardo Leporatti, could take advantage from their experience in
the family business that their father started at the beginning of the 60’s and where they realized big
electrical plants of every kind.
They started in a small workshop collocated in the countryside from the windows of that it was
possible to admire the hills where the famous genius Leonardo da Vinci was born.

On the motorway A11, exit at signpost for Montecatini Terme
Follow the signposts for Fucecchio, Empoli. Drive along SS436 and drive via the centres of
Monsummano Terme, Cintolese and Castelmartini. After you have passed the centre of Castelmartini
turn left onto the road called Via di Cerbaia. After 1600 meters turn left onto the road called Via
Amendola.

MEDIUM VOLTAGE > LB-TPS > SF6 GAS
INSULATED LOAD BREAK SWITCH
LB-TPS is a three position rotary switch (earth connection-open-closed)
enclosed in an epoxy resin envelope. The envelope is filled with SF6 gas
at a pressure of 0.4 bar. LB-TPS is available in both load break switch
and isolator versions depending on the type of operating mechanism
used.
The equipment is sealed for life.
The main characteristics of TPS LB are reduced dimensions and resin envelope made of one single
piece. It is maintenance free due to a sealed envelope which is segregated from the external
ambient.
SOME TECHNICAL ADVANTAGES OF TPS LB ARE THE FOLLOWING:
It is equipped with a movable mimic by showing immediate position of the switch
Through a frontal window it is possible to check visually the position of switch contacts.
It is provided with a pressure relief valve on its back side in case of internal fault. With the help
of this structure in the event of overpressure the gas will go out from the opposite part where
the operator is situated. All the above mentioned things together with excellent electrical and
mechanical characteristics guarantee maximum safety, reliability and duration of the product..

It is a known fact that the vacuum circuit breaker has become the dominant technology in the main world
market and its diffusion is increasing in an outstanding way.
Today it is possible to get very efficient vacuum circuit-breakers with electrical duration which is longer than
mechanical duration, with total respect of environment (SF6 circuit breakers contribute to greenhouse effect and
they need maintenance and a particular treatment at the end of their life cycle); but in particular, vacuum circuit
-breakers offer the best performances
thanks to the reduction of arc energy, very quick opening, insulation restoring after overvoltage impulse and
reduction of mechanical energy needed for operating mechanism.

CONSTRUCTION CHARACTERISTICS
The vacuum medium voltage circuit breakers for indoor installation TCB series are “sealed for life” pressure
systems (IEC 62271-100 and CEI 71-1 Standards, EN 62271-100) and they are constructed using the separate
pole technique.
Each pole has a vacuum interrupter inside it which, thanks to a special production process, is incorporated in
the resin. This construction technique ensures protection of the vacuum interrupter against impact, dust
andcondensation phenomena and guarantees the lightning impulse withstand also on the external surface of the
vacuum interrupter. The transmission is obtained by a mechanical central bar which allows to transform the
circuit breaker in different executions very easily.

The circuit-breakers are available in three versions:
- TCB: standard for metal enclosed MV modules ICBV or ILCBV
- TCB/LD: on truck version with right lateral operating mechanism. There are two version of this, 12kV and
24kV.
- TCB/LS: on truck version with left lateral operating mechanism. There are two version of this, 12kV and 24kV.

MEDIUM VOLTAGE > PLS > Pole Mounted switch Disconnector
PLS is an outdoor SF6 insulated pole mounted switch
disconnector up to 40.5 kV. The stainless steel tank is
particularly suitable for providing protection against
the extremes of heat, snow, corrosion, moisture, salt
and other critical environmental conditions.
PLS switch disconnector can be remote controlled or
operated manually with two different operating
mechanisms. The first one is a transmitted operating
mechanism which can be operated directly from the
ground with the help of small ladders. The second
one is a switch disconnector which can be operated
from the ground by means of insulated hook stick.

TPS MV switchboards are constructed of standardized modules in metal sheets. These modules
contain SF6 insulated devices for switching and earthing. The main advantages of TPS switches are
reduced installation and maintenance time and small dimensions. All this is obtained by ensuring

The switchboard is made of a metal structure composed of galvanized steel sheets
that are assembled using rivets and bolts. This structure is built to withstand the
electrodynamic stresses during the operation. A three position earthing switch is
fixed to this structure. An envelope made of epoxy resin makes the isolation possible
between the structure and live parts.
An operating mechanism, a movable mimic and a voltage indicator are positioned in
the front of the panel. The position of the switch is given by the movable mimic
whereas the voltage signalling lamp indicates the voltages.
It is possible to inspect the inside of the switch through an inspection window
positioned above the operating mechanism. In the front of the panel there is a door
giving access to different compartments, e.g. cables, fuses and measurement. When
the door is closed it is possible to see inside the switch through the inspection window.
If the module is equipped with a low voltage auxiliary compartment it is situated in its upper part.
Safety characteristics
The personnel safety is obtained by mechanical interlocks which guarantee correct operations of
the device.
In this way involuntary mistakes which could be dangerous for the operator can be prevented.
Metal screens prevent access to electrical parts during maintenance operations. It is possible to
block the switch
in three positions with key locks.

MEDIUM VOLTAGE > TPR6> Switchboards for Ring Main Unit up to 7,2 Kv -
TPR6 is an SF6 insulated ring main unit for the secondary distribution network. TPR6 uses the latest
developments in switchgear technology by providing an extremely compact medium voltage
switchgear solution. It can be supplied in a number of different configurations suitable for most
switching applications in 7,2 up to 40,5 kV distribution networks. TPR6 is available in a standard
configuration or a modular version making further extension possible. All this is obtained by ensuring
maximum personnel safety.
CONSTRUCTION CHARACTERISTICS
TPR6 is a completely “sealed for life” system with a stainless steel tank containing all live parts and
switching devices. A hermetically sealed steel tank from the outside
environment ensures a high level of reliability as well as personal safety.
The structure can withstand the electrodynamics stresses during the
operation. The operating mechanism, movable mimic and voltage signaling
lamps are positioned in the front panel. Switches are operated by means of
spring-operated mechanisms. Movable mimic gives the position of the
switch whereas the voltage signaling lamp indicates the voltages. Fuses
and cable compartment are easily accessible through the front door which
is interlocked with the earth switch. Should the low voltage auxiliary
compartment be present, it is situated above the ring main unit.
SAFETY CHARACTERISTICS
The personnel safety is obtained by using mechanical interlocks. These mechanical locks operate as
follows:
When the switch disconnector is closed the earth switch can not be closed simultaneously and
the access to MV cables (T, C and F modules) is prevented.
When the earth switch is closed there is a free access to MV cables (T, C and F modules) but it
is impossible to close the switch.
When the access door to MV cables and fuses is open it is impossible to close the switch (T, C
and F modules).
Metal screens prevent access to electrical parts during maintenance operations. It is possible to block
the switch in three positions with key locks.
INTERNAL ARC WITHSTAND
The robust design of the metal enclosure prevents deformations and ensures protection against
fault. TPR6 is designed to withstand an internal arc caused by a rated short-circuit current for 1
second preventing any danger to the operator. A safety valve against accidental overpressure caused
by an internal arc is located at the bottom of the metal enclosure. The gas is released to the bottom
of the TPR6 without any danger to the operator. TPR6 has been type tested and it meets all the
criteria of IAC class A FL, as defined by IEC 62271-200 standard, annex A.

MODULE EXTENSIBILITY
TPR6 switchboards are easily extensible on-site, without
requiring the handling of gas or any special work. One or
several modules may be simply added to the existing
switchboard by using special connectors.

INTEGRATED DATA ACQUISITION, MONITORING AND CONTROL SYSTEM
Monitor 2003 is an integrated data acquisition and control system.
It is used in plant and substation monitoring and in industrial
equipment control. Its easy construction technique and flexibility
allows to use it in all the situations where it is necessary to acquire
data from different machines and instruments.
The system is composed of one or more GPCs “General Purpose
Controllers” which are connected by the means of standard RS485, making reference to a personal
computer for data acquisition and process.
The GPCs allow to interface to the measuring instruments, existing PLCs or PLCs dedicated to real
time alarm management, energy meters and gas meters. By the means of local network, standard
telephones or mobile phones it is possible to connect to remote sites and control them in a
centralized way.
The core of the system is Monitor 2003 software. In PC application it is connected to GPC network
by the means of RS485, by constantly comunicating with data collection terminals, monitoring the
conditions and acquiring data.
By the means of graphical data it is possible to control and illustrate the values. Real-time visual
section is divided in two typologies;text data collection and graphic data collection.
The report section configurable by the user allows to visualize the maximum, minimum and
medium values.
Alarm system completes the switchboard allowing to send special messages by mobile phone to a
selected contact list. The flexibility of GPC configuration allows the modification of inputs. By the
means of configuration it is possible to program 4 outputs of each GPC and connect it to the alarm
functions centrally.
