“The angel Gabriel was sent from God to a town of Galilee called Nazareth to a virgin
[whose] name was Mary.... Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son,
and you shall names him Jesus....” We can easily fall into the trap of thinking that
Mary’s YES was a slam dunk for her! Not the case. Mary could have said, “Can this
wait until I’m married? What exactly is the plan for this birth? What will happen in
the future if I say yes? If I am going to have this baby there are some things I need to
get done first.” Mary didn’t “negotiate” with God’s messenger. Instead she
responded, “I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your
word.” How was Mary able to be so trusting of what God asked of her? Perhaps the
answer is found in the greeting of the angel: Hail FULL OF GRACE. Grace is the free
and undeserved assistance God offers us so that we may respond to his call.
Throughout her life, Mary accepted the gift of God’s grace. That grace gave Mary the
courage to trust God with this wonderful happening that she didn’t fully understand.
QUESTION: How do I know when God is calling me to do something in my life?
Where do I find opportunities to receive God’s grace to strengthen me?
Your Stewardship Matters
“Hail, full of grace, the Lord be with you!”
(Luke 1:28)
Faith is a gift from God. During this Christmas season take time in silence and pray
to God. Thank Him for all the gifts He has given you. Try to set aside any anger or
resentment you have and really open your hearts to receive the gift of God’s peace.
This week’s collection $16,534
(256 envelopes out of 904 families)
“WeShare” is a new way of Stewardship giving online. Go to stmattoc.org. Scroll
down to “Give online” and follow the instructions. It’s that easy. School families can
also use this for their tuition payments. After registering, please let parish office
know.
Fourth Sunday of Advent
Christmas is just days away.... WELCOME!
To each person who joins us in prayer on the Fourth Sunday of Advent,
December 21st, and at any of our Christmas Masses or Masses
throughout
the Christmas Season, we extend a warm WELCOME!
To all our parishioners and to all who visit us during Christmas Time,
we ask God’s blessings on you and your families.
If you traveled to be with us, we pray for your safe return.
May you be bathed in the radiance of Jesus Christ, the light of our faith.
May you grow closer to him in the New Year!
Advent Services
Please join Deacon John & Laurie Stodola for the Sunday afternoon Advent
prayer service. We will pray, sing and prepare our hearts for the coming of
Christ(mas)! The service this Sunday will be held in the Little Brick Church at
the same time of 2pm. Please bring your favorite Advent prayers to share.
Christmas TV Mass
Christmas Mass on TV will bring the joyful
celebration of our Lord's Nativity into homes,
healthcare settings, and other places. Please
invite homebound loved ones to join in the
Heart of the Nation Catholic TV Mass on
Christmas Day at 7 am on WCGV channel 24
or WITI Fox6. The Christmas Scripture
readings, traditional hymns, and the inspiring
surroundings of an 1800's chapel will give TV
Mass viewers the gift of rejoicing in the
meaning and blessings of Christmas.
Anointing of the Sick
There will be a communal Anointing of the Sick
next Sunday, December 28 after the 7:30 am
Mass.

WWJD about Christmas Gifts?
You can’t think of anything to ask for Christmas? Here’s an idea. During the
past year we have discussed a variety of social justice issues including poverty,
environment, immigration, loneliness, and peace. Each of these requires a
great amount of prayer and energy to keep in perspective. Perhaps what we
need are gifts of the Holy Spirit like those mentioned in Romans 12: 6– 8.
These are identified as serving, teaching, encouraging, giving, leadership, and
mercy. If we ask for these they are not going to come wrapped in silver paper
with a gold bow, but they may occur throughout the year in ways that we would
never expect – in acts of charity and selflessness that we never thought
possible. May you have a blessed Christmas and a year of peace and justice.
Reaching Out
December is already here. Our last collection for the year is the
Guest House. They currently provide shelter for 86 adult men
per evening. Among items needed are mops, brooms, alarm
clocks, razors, aftershave, playing cards, checkers and
household cleaning supplies. Gift cards for Walgreens, Target,
Walmart or movie passes. Cash is also greatly appreciated.
Please Return Communion Packs
We are happy to see people take Communion to the sick/homebound. But
PLEASE remember to RETURN your packet when you no longer need it, so that
others can use them. Many have been taken, but few have returned....

Principal’s Corner
The theme for the National Catholic Schools Week 2015 is
"Catholic Schools: Communities of Faith, Knowledge and
Service." This annual observance starts the last Sunday in
January and runs all week, which in 2015 is January 25-31.
Schools typically celebrate Catholic Schools Week with Masses, open houses
and other activities for students, families, parishioners and the community at
large. Starting the first week of January, my corner in the bulletin will be filled
with information on all the activities we've planned. This week, I'd like four
reasons for choosing a Catholic school.
We offer an education that combines Catholic faith and teachings with
academic excellence.
We partner with parents in the faith formation of their children.
We set high standards for student achievement and help them succeed.
We provide a balanced academic curriculum that integrates faith, culture and
life. Thank you for your continued support of St. Matthew Parish School
