Harrison Peters Chief High School Officer Tel: 713-556-7143 I Fax: 713-556-7188 December 19, 2014 Dear Austin High School Parents and Students: I have great news to share. With the promotion of Jorge Arredondo to assistant superintendent of Family and Community Engagement (FACE) at HISD, we have selected a great candidate to replace him – Steve Guerrero. Mr. Guerrero, who is currently the principal of Coop Elementary School, started his education career in Aldine ISD as a bilingual teacher. He was recruited to HISD in 2012 to serve as assistant principal at Scarborough High School. In 2012, Mr. Guerrero became principal of Coop, where he had a strong record of academic improvement – not only in meeting state standards but earning TEA distinctions in reading, math, science, and student progress. Mr. Guerrero holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Management from Texas State University and a master's in Educational Administration from Sam Houston State University. In the summer, Mr. Guerrero will begin his doctoral studies at the University of Texas at Austin in Educational Leadership. Mr. Guerrero has already begun transitioning into his new role by working with Austin faculty and staff, and he is eager to begin working closely with the school community. I hope you will join me in welcoming Mr. Guerrero as principal of Austin High School. I encourage you to come out and introduce yourself during a Meet & Greet at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 7, in the Austin High School library. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mr. Arredondo for his hard work and dedication in moving Austin High School forward and wish him the very best at FACE. Sincerely, Harrison Peters Chief High Schools Officer Houston Independent School District
