Dog Park, Skate Park & Shelters
McBark Dog Park
Presented by
Gary Lang Subaru
McBark Dog Park is located
north of the McHenry Kohls
with parking in the existing lot north of the store. We
would like to thank Kohls and IDOT for their cooperation
in granting the use of the site for the dog park. The
park features shade, a large running area for dogs,
onsite parking and running water. The park is open
from 7 am to dusk. The dog park provides year-round
opportunities for dogs and their owners to socialize
as well as exercise – both important to an animal’s
temperament and health.
Thank you to
Gary Lang Subaru for Supporting
McBark Dog Park
An annual pass is sold for local dog owners to access
the facility. Gate access is a controlled system allowing

Shelter Rentals
Shelters reservations can be made for Knox, Petersen
and Veterans Memorial Parks. Reservations and payment
can only be made in person. City Residents can begin
reservations on Tue, January 6. Non-Residents can
begin reservations on Tue, February 3. Shelter hours are
from 9:00 am to dusk daily. Two separate payments are
required for a reservation: one for the reservation fee and
one for the deposit fee (dated for the day of the rental). For
information on available dates and fees, call the Parks and
Recreation office at 815-363-2160.
In order to guarantee a shelter for family, company or
special use, reservation and deposit fees must be paid
for weekday and weekend picnic shelter reservations.
Alcoholic beverages are not allowed in the parks unless a
beer and wine permit is obtained. Without the permit you
are subject to a $25-$100 fine. Alcohol and special use
permits must be submitted at least 4 weeks prior to
the reserved date. Falsifying the number of people for
the reservation will result in the loss of deposit. Tent setup and take down must occur the same day of the rental
unless special approval is obtained. Family groups of 150
people or more must reserve two shelters at Petersen
Park. Companies must use Shelter C at Petersen Park.
Weddings: Weddings may be held at Veterans Memorial
Park. Only 1 wedding per day will be scheduled. Note any
special set-up at time of reservation. Rental equipment
and decorations must be removed by the end of the day.
The 3 front rails on the gazebo will be removed and a $25
maintenance fee will automatically be applied.

planting your tree.

a tree, please contact the Parks and Recreation
Department at 815-363-2162. The Arbor Day

as increase flexibility and overall strength. Class includes
standing and balancing poses, sun salutations and a
playful exploration of more challenging poses made more
accessible with props and modifications.
Gentle Yoga: This is a slower paced yoga practice to
stretch all areas of the body and increase range of motion in
the major joints. Improve strength, balance, breathing and
overall vitality. Class ends with a deep relaxation to release
stress and tension.
Aqua Aerobics: Improve joint mobility, flexibility, balance
and strength. Warm–ups, cardio and toning combinations
and a cool down will give you the workout you want. Aqua
aerobics is great for all ages.
Hatha Yoga: Improve your overall health, energy level,
flexibility and gain a heightened ability to deal with everyday
life challenges. Learn how the Mind-Body connection can
help you release hidden stress and maintain a youthful,
strong, graceful body.
Barre Burn: This total body workout slims your hips,
tightens your thighs, lifts your seat and mobilizes your
metabolism. Utilizing ballet movements, intelligent
Isometrics, challenges in rhythm, range of motion and
progressive core training, your body heals, tightens and
strengthens so you look, feel and move better.
Body Toning with Yoga: Start class with a Tai Chi-like warmup, continue with Vinyassa Yoga deep stretches and move
into core Pilates movements for strong muscle care. All of
these movements lengthen, strengthen and tone muscles to
help students develop a strong posture while creating a new
physique. Transform latent muscles into strong muscles with
deep breathing and easy to follow movements.
Cardio, Core & More: Burn calories, strengthen the core
and tone the whole body all in one hour. Use hand weights,
resistance tubing and even personal bodyweight for a truly

is the most safe and effective calorie burning workout that is
designed without lots of impact.

flexibility with basic Pilates moves. Each week class will
slowly progress with more challenging movements.
PiYoTM: PiYo is a class that combines yoga poses with

lean muscles. Feel your entire body getting stronger and
firmer with this 45 minute workout.
Power Stretch: Stretch yourself fit. Flexibility is an
important segment of fitness, but it is often overlooked.

to gain flexibility. A roller and different types of balls will be
used. This is a good warm-up for Cardio, Core & More.
R.I.P.P.E.D.: Resistance, Intervals, Power, Plyometrics and
Endurance all in one class. Set to amazing music, this fun
athletic based format will get you in the best possible shape.
Cardio-Kickboxing & Strength: Join us for a great cardio
workout along with strength training. The first half of the
class is dedicated to non-contact kickboxing followed up
with weights and or resistance bands. This is an all around
total body workout in one hour.
Stability Ball Fusion: Combines stability ball and
resistance training for a total body workout. This class
keeps your body moving as you strengthen and tone using
stability ball, free weights and resistant bands. Please bring
your own stability ball.
Circuit Training: This class will focus on strength and cardio
endurance. The use of equipment is set up in timed stations
and will work all the major muscle groups. It is sure to
satisfy beginners to advanced participants.
Total Body Workout: Focus on working all major muscle
groups with the use of free weights, resistance bands and
personal body weight.
Forever Young Gentle Exercise (50 & up): Enhance your
strength, flexibility, endurance, balance. Additional benefits
include improved well-being, better posture, preservation
of bone mass and enhanced muscle tone. All exercises are
done standing or seated on a chair (no floor work).
19
Yoga & Core: Use yoga poses to strengthen and lengthen
your muscles. Focus will be on the use of core strength for
balance, posture and health. Zumba®: Experience an exhilarating hour of calorie-burning,
heart-racing, muscle-pumping, body-energizing movements.
Work to get fit and healthy using Latin American music as
your guide. Move to different tempos with low/high-impact
moves that build muscle.

Northern Illinois Special
Recreation Association (NISRA)
Residents with Disabilities. Do you know someone with
a disability who would like to go out, have fun and make
friends? Since 1976, NISRA has provided recreation
programs for people with disabilities. Socializing, building
physical skills, learning, relaxation and fun are some of
the benefits gained from participating in NISRA’s year
round activities. Sports, fitness, social, cultural, outdoor
and preschool programs, along with camps, special
events and trips offer enjoyment for children, teens, and
adults of all ability levels.
McHenry Parks and Recreation Department, along
with 13 other districts is a member of NISRA. Pick up a
brochure at our office, view it on–line at www.nisra.org or
call NISRA at 815-459-0737 to have one mailed to you.
How about a McHenry Parks and Recreation program?
NISRA staff assist our staff with including residents with
disabilities in our recreation programs. Types of support
may include staff training, adapted equipment, sign
language assistance or a program aide. Call 815-4590737 with questions about inclusion, or contact your
recreation department to register for a program.
