Join us at the library this month - we have all kinds of wonderful programs to
keep you out of the cold! This month we’ll kickoff a Lego Club on Friday, January
16th at 4pm. The Lego Club will give participants access to Legos for free play
and fun! The club is limited to 20 participants, ages 5 and up. This month we’ll
also feature two local artists. Sandi Boston will display her artwork in our meeting
room and Travis Johansen will display his sculptures in a display window.

LEGO CLUB
Do you love Legos? Then this is the club for you! Join us for a free play
session with all the Lego building bricks you need to build, build, and
build! Attendance is limited to 20 children, ages 5 and up. Join us on
Friday, January 16th at 4pm.
FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY SCHOLARSHIP
Attention all teen volunteers! Each year the Friends of the Library award scholarships
to one or more graduating teen volunteers planning to continue his or her education.
Application packets for qualified teen volunteers will be available at the circulation
desk this month.
SANDI BOSTON ART EXHIBIT AND RECEPTION
Local artist Sandi Boston will celebrate her exhibit with a reception
open to the public on Sunday, January 11th from 1:30pm to 3pm.
Sandi draws inspiration from the natural color palette of the big Texas
sky.
TRAVIS JOHANSEN ART EXHIBIT AND DEMONSTRATION
Artist Travis Johansen will showcase his abstract alabaster and marble
sculptures in the display window during the month of January. His pieces
are intended to evoke the beauty of nature. Johansen will conduct a
demonstration on the sculpting process on Tuesday, January 13th at 6pm.
CASH FLOW FOR 2015 FINANCIAL SUCCESS
Join Joe Romas, Accredited Asset Management Specialist, as he
offers financial tips and solutions to help you reach your long-term
financial goals. Romas obtained the AAMS designation through The
College of Financial Planning. Join him on Tuesday, January 27th at
6pm for help with all your financial questions!

PROGRAMS FOR YOUNG PEOPLE
• Hola-Hola! Story Time - Saturday, January 3rd at 10:30am - Join Ann
Benson for this story time in Español! All ages and languages welcome.
• Come & Go Crafts - Saturday, January 3rd from 1:30pm to 3pm - Join us for
a drop-in craft time at the library. This month we’ll make snow globes!
• Teen Crafternoon - Sunday, January 4th at 1:30pm - Join us to learn how to
make your own felt critters or bring your own crafting project!
• Little Yoga - Thursday, January 8th at 10:30am - This class is for ages three
to six. Experience exercise in a quiet, calming environment. Let’s get moving!
• Japanese Stories - Thursday, January 8th at 4pm - Join us for Japanese
kids’ tales told in English with puppets, toys, and a lot of imagination! You’ll also
learn a few phrases and sayings in Japanese. For school age and up.
• Mother/Daughter Book Club - Sunday, January 11th at 2pm - Second
through fifth grade girls and their moms are invited to a discussion of The
Westing Game by Ellen Raskin.
• Taste Buds - Tuesday, January 13th from 4:30pm to 6pm - Ages ten and up
are invited to this hands-on cooking class. Learn a new hobby and make some
tasty dishes!

Bow Wow Reading - Saturday, January 17th from 10:30am to 1pm - In
partnership with the Austin Dog Alliance, we offer Bow Wow Reading for six to
twelve year olds. Please sign up in advance for an individual 15 minute session.
ABCs of Cooking - Tuesday, January 20th at 4pm - This cooking class is
for five to ten year olds. Prepare healthy snacks and learn fun facts about food
and nutrition. Please see library website for attendance details. Bon appétit!
PJ Story Time - Tuesday, January 20th at 6:15pm - Wear your pajamas,
have some milk and cookies, then snuggle in for bedtime stories at PJ Story
Time. All ages are welcome.
Sign Language Story Time - Thursday, January 22nd at 10:30am - Join us
for kids’ tales told in American Sign Language (and spoken in English). Learn
some basic signs while enjoying classic songs and stories. All ages welcome!
Family Flicks - Tuesday, December 27th at 4pm - We’ll watch (and sing)
Frozen Sing Along. Popcorn will be served!
Dads and Donuts - Saturday, January 31th at 10:30am - Join us for a short
story time, craft, and snacks for dads and their kiddos. Moms are invited, too!
Chess Club - Mondays from 4:30pm to 5:30pm - All ages and skill levels are
invited to attend. However, young chess players must be accompanied by an
adult. BYOCS (Bring Your Own Chess Set) and good luck!

The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd.

• OverDrive Digital Library Training - Tuesday, January 6th at 6pm Download audiobooks and eBooks anytime, anywhere - for free! Join us for an
introduction to the OverDrive Digital Library.
• Mango Languages Open House - Friday, January 9th at 1pm - Mango
Languages is an online language learning system offered for free to library card
holders. Mango is fun, interactive, and has real-world applications. Join us for a
demonstration and try out the program for yourself! Refreshments will be served.
• Classics Book Club - Monday, January 12th at 1pm - The club will discuss
Tom Jones by Henry Fielding.
• iFought the iPad (and iWon) - Monday, January 12th at 3pm - Do you have
an iPad but don’t know what to do with it? If so, join us to learn some helpful
hints and tricks on everything iPad at this training class!
