SFA OS 1.5.6.0 is supported on the S2A6620 storage platform ONLY. The build of SFA OS described in these release notes is 1.5.6.0_14232. SFA OS 1.5.6.0 requires the following low-level processor code versions. (These requirements have not changed since SFA OS 1.5.4.1.) To determine the currently installed BIOS version, run the command: show enclosure all To determine the currently installed DEM version, run the command: show expander all DataDirect Networks SFA™ OS 1.5.6.0 Release Notes | 4 SFA OS 1.5.4.1 included a feature that updated the UPS hardware and lithium-ion battery pack firmware to revision C. SFA OS 1.5.6.0 assumes revision C is installed. It has not been tested on other revisions. To determine the current UPS hardware and firmware revisions, run the command: show ups all The following versions of SFA OS may be upgraded directly to SFA OS 1.5.6.0: 1.5.4.1 1.5.3.1 1.4.3.3 1.4.3.1 To determine the installed version of SFA OS firmware, run the command: show controller * all Please contact DDN Technical Support before attempting to upgrade to SFA OS 1.5.6.0 from any version other than those listed above. The S2A6620 Compatibility Guide lists the expansion enclosures, host adapters, disk drives and SSDs, and client operating systems that are supported by SFA OS 1.5.x. This guide is available online at http://www.ddn.com/support/downloads-documentation. SFA OS 1.5.6.0 has been enhanced with new features to manage remote controller IP settings from the local controller and to improve latency reporting on physical disks. The use of these features is documented below. SFA OS 1.5.6 enables a user logged in to the local controller to view IP settings for both the local and the remote controller on the storage system. Previous releases required the user to log in separately to each controller in order to view that controller’s IP settings. DataDirect Networks SFA™ OS 1.5.6.0 Release Notes | 5 To view IP settings for both controllers concurrently, enter the command: ui show network_interface Command output will be similar to the following example: RAID[0]$ ui show network_interface Controller LOCAL Network device id 0 address 192.168.40.10 netmask 255.255.0.0 gateway 192.168.5.51 link_state 1000 Mbps Full Duplex Controller REMOTE Network device id 1 address 192.168.40.11 network 255.255.0.0 gateway 192.168.5.51 link_state 100 Mbps Full Duplex You can also use the “local” and “remote” keywords with this command to display IP settings for the respective controller. For example: ui show network_interface local ui show network_interface remote Do not use the controller index number in place of the keywords “local” and “remote”. SFA OS 1.5.6 enables a user logged in to the local controller to change IP settings for both the local and the remote controller on the storage system. Previous releases required the user to log in separately to each controller in order to change that controller’s IP settings. IPv4 and IPv6 addresses are both supported, although IPv6 address abbreviation is not. To change the IP settings on the remote controller, enter the command: ui set network_interface [local|remote] <network-id> ip_address <controller-ip-address> ip_gateway <gateway-ip-address> ip_mask [<subnet-mask-dotted-quad>|<CIDR-subnet-prefix>] where <network-id> is the ID of the network interface object for the controller <controller-ip-address> is the controller IP address in IPv4 or IPv6 format <gateway-ip-address> is the gateway IP address in IPv4 or IPv6 format DataDirect Networks SFA™ OS 1.5.6.0 Release Notes | 6 <subnet-mask-dotted-quad> is the subnet mask expressed as four decimal octets delimited by periods, such as 255.255.0.0 <CIDR-subnet-prefix> is the subnet mask expressed as a Classless Interdomain Routing (CIDR) prefix between 8 and 24, without a slash All parameters are required when changing remote controller IP settings. For example: ui set network_interface remote 1 ip_address 192.168.40.11 ip_gateway 192.168.5.51 ip_mask 255.255.0.0 Do not use the controller index number in place of the keywords “local” and “remote”. The show pd counters command has been enhanced with new parameters to assist reporting on physical disk latency. The updated syntax for this command is: show pd counters [write_latency|read_latency|write_size|read_size|rates|all] [latency <0-to-65535-milliseconds>] [pool <pool-index>] where latency filters the report to show drives with latencies greater than n milliseconds pool filters the report to show only drives in the specified pool Both filter parameters are optional. For example, to show write latency event counters for only those physical drives that experience write latencies greater than 200 ms, enter the command: show pd counters write_latency latency 200 A report similar to the following will be displayed. The reported events include drives in all pools, but are limited to latency events of 200 ms or longer. Physical Disk Write Latency: Elapsed time = 10.251 seconds Idx Avg <=4ms <=8ms <=16ms <=32ms <=64ms <=128ms <=256ms <=512ms <=1s <=2s <=4s >4s ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------3 409 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 988 0 0 0 0 12 317 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 988 0 0 0 0 14 422 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 987 0 0 0 0 91 1008 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 880 96 0 0 To show all write latency event counters for all physical drives in pool 1, enter the command: DataDirect Networks SFA™ OS 1.5.6.0 Release Notes | 7 show pd counters write_latency pool 1 A report similar to the following will be displayed. The reported events are limited to drives in pool 1, but include all latency ranges. Physical Disk Write Latency: Elapsed time = 16.010 seconds Idx Avg <=4ms <=8ms <=16ms <=32ms <=64ms <=128ms <=256ms <=512ms <=1s <=2s <=4s >4s ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------3 44 0 0 395 191 554 396 0 0 0 0 0 0 12 10 40 0 1487 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 14 104 0 0 21 115 143 473 0 0 0 0 0 0 91 1005 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 1487 40 0 0 92 6 410 735 382 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 To combine both filters, enter the command: show pd counters write_latency latency 200 pool 1 A report similar to the following will be displayed. The reported events are limited to latency events in pool 1 that equal or exceed 200 ms. Physical Disk Write Latency: Elapsed time = 16.010 seconds Idx Avg <=4ms <=8ms <=16ms <=32ms <=64ms <=128ms <=256ms <=512ms <=1s <=2s <=4s >4s ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------91 1007 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 1435 0 0 0 The following issues have been resolved in SFA OS 1.5.6. DataDirect Networks SFA™ OS 1.5.6.0 Release Notes | 8 The GUI management agent included with SFA OS supports Microsoft’s Internet Explorer browser version 9.0 in compatibility mode only. See the S2A6620 Compatibility Guide for a list of fully supported browsers. The drive serial number reported in show pd output may contain additional characters that are not on the disk label. The serial number on the disk label will always be contained within the potentially more verbose string reported by SFA OS. The show power_supply command may fail to display the last three characters of the power supply serial number on SS6000 drive enclosures. This is only a display issue. The command will complete successfully with no adverse effects other than the truncated serial number. Powering off individual drives within an enclosure is not supported by the 6KSSI drive interposers used in the SS6000 drive enclosure. However, if the command is issued to turn off power to a specific enclosure slot on the SS6000 (that is, the command set slot <enclosure-id> <slot-id> power off), SFA OS displays a success message in error. Drive power is not affected by the command. If you clear the S2A6620 subsystem configuration, the Fibre Channels initiators may not log back to the subsystem when there is a directly connected host. This results in no initiators being available to assign to new presentations. To correct this, do a rescan from the host before setting up your presentations. DataDirect Networks SFA™ OS 1.5.6.0 Release Notes | 9 Consult the S2A6620 User Guide, as well as the SS6000 Enclosure User Guide for any explansion enclosures, to determine best practices for system installation, system operation, firmware upgrades, and component replacement. These documents are available online at http://www.ddn.com/support/downloads-documentation. To request the latest version of SFA OS or other firmware, email a request to DDN Technical Support at [email protected]. Please provide the following information: Instructions on downloading the requested firmware will be provided by return email. To collect debug information for DDN Technical Support, use the diag tgz command. This is one of several commands that can be run under the diag account, a captive account on SFA OS systems that is used for performing operations on a storage controller when there is no command line interface (CLI) access or the CLI is not appropriate. You will need the IP address of the controller on which you want to run the diag program. Get this from your network administrator or by using the command: ui show network_interface From a terminal emulator program such as PuTTY, use SSH to log in to the diag account on the target S2A6620 controller and request execution of the desired command. (See table of commands below.) The command syntax is: ssh diag@<controller-ip> <diag-command> where <controller-ip> is the IP address of the controller that will execute the command DataDirect Networks SFA™ OS 1.5.6.0 Release Notes | 10 <diag-command> is one of the commands listed in the table below For example, the following command requests that system diagnostics be captured as a .tgz compressed file (binary) to the standard output device (stdout): ssh [email protected] tgz Redirect the output of the diag tgz command to a file on your local PC by appending the UNIX redirect operator (>) and a target file name to this command. For example: ssh [email protected] tgz > crash.tgz The following table lists available diag commands. clear help reboot shutdown status .tgz stdout tgz stdout > .tgz ssh [email protected] tgz > crash.tgz .tgz stdout tgzlite stdout > .tgz ssh [email protected] tgzlite > crash.tgz Please feel free to contact DDN Technical Support for assistance at any time.
