Community Service Committee Upcoming Events
Warm Hearts Campaign
Local Lodge 839’s Community Service Committee is partnering with District 70 to
sponsor KAKE Channel 10 and In The Bag Cleaner’s annual Warm Hearts Campaign. Throughout the month of January, you will hear and see multiple advertisements around town, on TV, mobile apps and on radio stations regarding the
event. It’s purpose is to collect as many coats, sweaters and blankets, new or gently used, as possible. The collected items will be cleaned and stored by In The Bag
Cleaners until November 2015 when they will be delivered to the Salvation Army
to be handed out to the less fortunate to help keep them warm during the cold
winter months. Drop sites include KAKE Channel 10, In The Bag Cleaners around
town, Local Lodge 839 Office and the District 70 Office. Anyone is welcome to
participate. Please bring any new or gently used coats, sweaters or blankets to the
Local Lodge and help us spread warmth throughout the winter! Thank you for all
you do to help support your Community Service Committee!

The Community Service Committee would like to thank the membership for the support that you
give to us when you purchase food from the kitchen and tickets for all of our drawings. The money
you spend enables us to procure additional items for baskets and raffles and allows us to help our
members in need!
The Community Service Committee would like to congratulate the winners of the Thanksgiving
Dinners (pictured above). The dinners were provided by When Pigs Fly! We hope everyone had a
wonderful Thanksgiving and enjoyed spending valuable time with family and friends!
The Community Service Committee would also like to congratulate Mark Handy (pictured above),

Organizing Committee Report
Pictured above are the Union Stewards and Members who received a ‘bounty’ check for signing up
at least one new member, in accordance with the 2014 Organizing Program.
For each new member that is signed up, the person who signed them up receives $10.00 (less tax)!
Let’s get out there and organize!!
For each turtle you will need:
3 pecan halves
Turtle Candy
1 caramel square
1” square of chocolate bar
Line a cookie sheet with foil. For each turtle, place 3 pecan
halves, flat side down in a fan shape with the ends touching.
Place 1 caramel in the center of the pecans. Place in a preheated, 300 degree oven for exactly 7 minutes. Remove the pan from
the oven; press down on the caramels with the back of a large
spoon. Place 1 square of chocolate in the center of each turtle.
Let it melt for 1 minute, then smooth with a knife. Allow the
chocolate to harden for 5 hours but do not refrigerate. Store in
air tight container.

Each year at the November Local Lodge meeting, the membership honors our Veterans

women for their selfless contribution in defending our flag, our freedom and our Country.
Note: If you are a Veteran and were unable to attend November’s meeting, please stop by the
Local Lodge and pick up a lapel pin.
