COMMISSION MEMBERS
Inland Coalition featured our Baldy View ROP
students in their weekly newsletter. Claremont,
Montclair, Upland and Ontario High Schools’ BVROP
students loaned their helping hands at the 12th
Annual Ontario Health Fair in Ontario, CA. Students
participated by conducting brief teacher activities
giving them the opportunity to practice public
speaking and demonstrate leadership skills. They
also distributed health information to health fair
attendees. BVROP Instructor, Marie Sliney was there
front and center to assist her students. Marie has
been with BVROP for over seven years and teaches
Healthcare Occupations and Medical Assisting
Foundations Prep Therapy. She is part of the Health
Science Pathway at Upland High School.
The Inland Coalition helps students identify health-related careers and puts them on an educational path to success.

Shelley Adams with students from CDOHS
Antonia Walters, Administrative Assistant
Antonia Walters joined BVROP in the beginning of
October and is the new Administrative Assistant for
the Educational Services Department. Antonia
brings to BVROP over 10 years assisting at the
executive level and an energetic go-getter
attitude to her department. She has two children
Delilah and Dexter and married her high school
sweetheart, Dennis. Antonia and her family love to spend their
weekends outdoors partaking in wakeboarding, dirt bike riding,
snowboarding, and camping in the Sequoia’s. If you are feeling up to
an exciting weekend, give Antonia a call.
Leticia Castor, Child Care Teacher/
Preschool Director
Leticia has an extensive background in Early
Childhood Education. She has been a
Director and Supervisor in Children Centers for
many years. She comes to us from East San
Gabriel Valley ROP/TC where she taught Child
Development to high school and post
secondary students. She was an Adjunct Professor for Chaffey and Mt.
San Antonio Community Colleges. She has a passion for cultivating
and developing skills for students who want to enter into early
childhood education. She lives locally, has a large, close extended
family, two daughters in the education field as well as two
four-legged family members. She looks forward to working more
closely with the BVROP team and parents.
Art Holguin, Student Services
Specialist
Art Holguin joined Baldy View ROP in October
as our Student Services Specialist. Art has a
background in Post-Secondary Higher
Education where he has held positions such as,
Optical Dispensing Instructor, Externship
Coordinator and Career Service Coordinator.
He also worked as a Probation Correctional Officer with Tulare
County Probation Department. For the past 15 years, he has
Managed /Coached baseball in the Junior, Senior and Big League
Divisions for teams in the City of Ontario and Upland. Art was a
nominated Board Member for Ontario Eastern Little League and
served a 4 year term as “Umpire-N-Chief". He also participated in 3
Senior Little League Regional World Series at “Jay Littleton Ballpark” in
Ontario. Art has an 8 year old son named AJ (Art Jr) and enjoys
spending time with his family, barbecuing, and playing in adult
softball leagues.

Gerald Jo, 3D Animation &
Media Design
Gerald joined Baldy View ROP in October and is
a 3D artist/game developer for the PC and the
mobile phone market. He also has over 7 years
experience teaching Game Art and Animation
at a college level. Art and teaching are his
passion. Gerald is super excited to be a part of
the BVROP team and to have an opportunity to help and guide
students into the game and animation industry which is so diverse
with many exciting career paths! Gerald hopes to continue being
a positive influence to students and shape their future to be bright.
Gerald likes all types of animals especially dogs and reptiles. He
plays basketball a lot to stay in shape or he will just keep on gaining
weight. He grew up in Torrance/Gardena area but now he lives in
Fullerton, CA. He has a wife and a 3 year old daughter named Erin
who loves to dress up everyday.
Raymond Gordon, Fire Technology
Teacher
Ray Gordon is a retired Battalion Chief from the
City of Pasadena. He has worked as a
Firefighter/Paramedic, Fire Captain and Fire
Battalion Chief; he has more than 29 years of
public service. For over five years Ray has been
his department’s Training Officer. During his
tenure as the Training Officer, he worked on
a “Tri-City” Recruit Training Academy that
graduated fire candidates that were employed by three different
cities. Ray has enjoyed working in Fire Prevention, Emergency
Medical Services. And Fire Operations. He enjoys helping prepare
students for a career in public service.
Arnold Mathias, Criminal Justice/
Forensic Science Teacher
Arnold Mathias currently works for San
Bernardino Police Department and has
been in law enforcement since 2005. He
has a B.A. in Criminal Justice and enjoys
teaching as a way to give back to the
community. He believes it is crucial to assist
young members of society with mentorship
and direction of the law.
Advisory Council Meeting
On October 30th, industry partners gathered together to provide valuable input to BVROP
teachers. Attendees had the opportunity to network through dinner and heard from invited
guests; BVROP student; Danny Martinez, from Rancho Cucamonga High School and former
BVROP students; Lan Phong Tran and Adeline Rosales, both talked about what BVROP means to
them and how the program put them on a great path. Participants segmented into round table
groups by the industry sector they represented and reviewed the course outlines and made
insightful suggestions. One of the most important ways BVROP Career Technical Education
courses stay cutting edge and provide relevant job skills to students, is through our Advisors and
Business Partners.

About
Advisory Committees play an integral
part in shaping occupational curricula
development at Baldy View ROP. They
help ensure that our programs remain in
touch with the needs of local business
and industry and that our students
receive relevant instruction. The
Advisory Committee is a group of
individuals selected to represent broad
points of view relative to a specific
occupational education area. The
members should have a strong sense of
commitment to the development of our
educational program and our students.
Membership on the Advisory
Committee should not be limited to a
specific portion of a particular
occupation; rather it should provide a
broad perspective that requires that
persons with differing backgrounds
combine to give input and advice.
Most occupational education programs
enjoy greater benefits when the
Advisory Committee represents both
workers and supervisors. People who
actually perform the skills and those
who hire and supervise can then work
together to give the instructional staff
an accurate picture of the community’s
employment needs.

Professional Development
As part of BVROP’s continuous effort in the growth and progress of our teachers and staff we
held a Professional Development on October 11th. Our stakeholders were engaged in
collaboration and training at the Certificated and Classified breakouts. Guest speaker Zeb
Welborn, spoke about social media and how the “reach” can impact a community. Guest
speaker; Delaphine Prysock, spoke about the importance of team work in an organization.
Also, guest speaker; Nancy Johnson presented a interesting subject matter on
“Emotional Intelligence”.

the statewide association for ROCPs. CAROCP is designed to promote and support
ROCPs in providing exemplary education, career development in workforce

1510 KSPA. She spoke about BVROP Career Technical Education opportunities
available to high school students and adults.
Press Release
The Daily Bulletin posted information about the
BVROP Institutional Program Advisory Meeting. This
membership ensures that our program is meeting
the learning and employment needs of the
community. Members work directly with teachers
and staff in the development of new curriculum
designed to meet our current industry needs.
COE/WASC Accreditation
The Council on Occupational Education
accreditation process is progressing well.
“We had a successful preliminary visit on
October 30th. We are looking forward to our
dual accreditation COE/WASC visit on
December 9th - 12th.”

Courses
Look out for these courses coming soon
The Baldy View ROP Foundation raises money all year to offer grants,
scholarships, and loans to students. The Foundation also offers mini-grant
opportunities for current Baldy View ROP Instructors.
Gerald Jo will be the Instructor for
the following new courses:

3D Media Design 1
Students learn to code and test animations; implement
standard graphics programming techniques for object
movement that mimic the laws of physics; know and
understand algebraic equations underlying the paths
of moving objects; know and understand the 2-D and
3-D transformations: translation, rotation, reflection and
scaling; implement effective graphics and graphical
user interfaces. Ayala H.S.
Introduction to Animation
This course introduces students to the artistic and
technological foundations to create animated
presentations for industry and entertainment. Students
will develop basic drawing and design skills, learn the
fundamentals and physics movement, the concept of
communication to a given audience, and techniques
for self-expression through a variety of animated
formats. Buena Vista H.S.
Game Design and Development
This course introduces students to the analysis, design,
and creation of interactive three dimensional
animation and games. This is a hands-on course that
begins with an extensive overview of 3-D graphics, The
basic components of video game design; modeling,
texturing, lighting, animation, and rules of game play
will be addressed.
Buena Vista H.S.
Computer Programming and Game Design
This course explores the history, art, and science of the
game development process through hands on
projects using a wide range of software. Students
work in teams to design and program their own
custom games in class, in both 2D and
3D environments.

Chick-fil-A donated a percentage of gross sales to the
Baldy View ROP Foundation

Ontario International Airport held its annual Plane
Pull on October 4th and the BVROP Foundation
was one of the beneficiaries. BVROP students
were in attendance to assist in the event.

BVROP Foundation awarded $2,000 to Derek
Scott, Landscape Maintenance teacher from
Boys Republic. The funds will be used for the
creation and upkeep of the Soxx Garden at Boys
Republic High School.

Thanks to the collaboration of BVROP and the
BVROP Foundation, the BVROP Foundation was
awarded a $5,000 SCE grant. This grant will be
utilized to support the Warehouse Operations
program of study.

Staff Profile
Logan Tice, Computer Support Specialist
Logan Tice joined Baldy View ROP in October 2013 as an
Educational Services Assistant. In January 2014 he was hired for
his current position. Logan came to Baldy View ROP from San
Bernardino County ROP where he was involved with career and
workforce guidance for ROP students. He began teaching
workshops in the classroom at age 19. Logan attended a small
high school in Northern Nevada where he was heavily
involved in music and arts. He played the trumpet and French
horn for multiple bands including marching, pep, concert, and
Jazz. Logan preformed in many parades and field show
competitions and was selected for 4th chair trumpet in the
statewide honor band in 2008. Upon graduation he received the
John Philip Sousa and Louis Armstrong awards for excellence
in music.
Amy Delgadillo graduated from Montclair High School in the Chaffey Joint Union High
School District. She was enrolled in the Hotel Operations ROP course and graduated in
1990. She currently is a General Manager for the Ayres Hotel and Suites in Ontario, CA
and has been employed with them for 15 years! She was hired after her ROP program
ended in 1989 and has been in the hospitality industry ever since!
“I love ROP and I am a huge believer in the program. I have always
had ROP students in the hotels I have managed. I have met and
worked with so many students over the years and have seen some
wonderful success stories. As a teenager I didn’t know what I wanted
to do when I graduated. I found out about ROP and decided to try the Hotel Operations
program. It sounded interesting and I liked working with people. My experience with ROP
was very positive, my instructor was knowledgeable about the hospitality industry, he provided support throughout the program, and I was honored when he nominated me for an ROP
award in my division. This experience helped shape my future and it was one of the best
things I ever did.”
