Dear Members,
This is my first dialogue with you,
through the
‘News Letter’,
as
the
Chairman –
PLC.
Our
News Letter is
a
very
convenient
medium to
reach
the
Members. So, I
am taking this opportunity to convey my
thoughts and future plans. Some of you
have attended the AGM on 30/10/14
when I had indicated a few of my
AIMs. Today I will be more elaborative.
At every event and function held
at PLC we proudly mention that “Pune
Local Centre got Best Centre Award’
8 times during the recent past……..”.
To regain this glory, we will have to
work with harmony, dedication and
affection. In other words, give our best
by shedding personal prestige and pride.
We have a very good team of
stalwarts along with young members
like Er. Vipin Munot, Er. Aaradhana
Deshmukh, Er. Harshwardhan Devkate,
Er. Prashant Patel etc. Another asset
is, an enthusiastic Hon. Secretary in
Er. V. N. Shinde.
I am confident that the committee,
with the co-operation, help and guidance
of the past office- bearers, committee
members and well wishers, will achieve

Report President’s Visit to PLC –
Part II
A summary of the proceeding of the
Interation session arranged on the
occasion of IE(I) President, Er. A. K.
Basa’s visit to PLC [but not covered in
Page 1 – sent to HQ] is as follows –
The Interaction session was
conducted by Prof. D. B. Dhone
Committee Member. At the outset, Er. V.
N. Shinde, Hon. Secretary, briefed the
audience about IE(I) President’s visit and
sequence of further proceedings planned
on this occasion. Er. Basa was then
introduced by Mrs. R. R. Desai, Past.
Hon. Secretary highlighting his
achievements.
Er. Desai proudly mentioned that
Er. Basa is being presented the
prestigious ‘S B MEMORIAL AWARD’
today 8 th Nov. by COEP. This was
followed by felicitations of the President.
Firstly Er. V. S. Ghogare, Chairman –
PLC honoured Er. Basa with the
traditional ‘Puneri Pagadi’, ‘Uparne’ &
‘Shriphal’. The entire house cheered the
Guest when Er. V. N. Shinde, Hon.
Secretary offered the elegant bouquet,
the Memento and Special Sweets of Pune
to Er. Basa.
After the felicitations, Er.
Ghogare delivered his welcome speech.
He explicitly mentioned that extension of
PLC Building, Membership drive, activities
for students would be given top priority
and his determination to steer the Centre
keeping pace with the ‘VISION
DOCUMENT’ of IE(I) HQ. This was
followed by self introduction of all the
members & invitees. Then Prof. Dhone
called upon the audience to present their
expectations from the HQ. In response
to this, Er./s Surve, Dhone, Patil, Saraf,
Toke, Kelkar, Devkate, Munot, Mrs. Desai
and Dr. Mundada spoke on various issues
and important matters concerned with
HQ. [These are mentioned in Col 2 ]
President Basa in his
address touched upon almost all the
issues raised by the members.

proposed vote of thanks.

Following points were raised by the
members :
1.
The HQ charges Rs. 5800/- per
ST/T applicant. The HQ should share
15% amount to Local Centre per ST/T
Member.
2.
Decentralization of HQ.
The
Membership,
ST/T
Memberships should be granted zone
wise. For that purpose 4 to 5 zones
should be created to decide
membership.
3.
Decentralization of section A- B
AMIE Examination zonewise.
4.
In Engineering Colleges and
Universities AMIE Qualification is not
recognized at par B E/ B Tech. for
recruitment of Lecturership.
5.
For M. Tech./ M E Courses, the
AMIE candidates are required to qualify
GATE examination where as Non zero
score is acceptable from B E/ B Tech.
candidates.
6.
For M E/ M Tech. Admission the
AMIE and Diploma qualification is
compulsory therefore Non Diploma AMIE candidates cannot get admission
for M E/ M Tech. Courses.
7.
In Pune we conduct AMIE
section A & B examination at 3 Venues.
Therefore number of candidates need
to be curtailed, since 3 Venues may
not be available every time due to
University examinations dates clash
with our schedule of Summer & Winter
exams.
8.
For AMIE we mostly get students
from Polytechnics therefore Rural
polytechnics should be accepted by IE
(I), so that students from Rural Area
may appear for AMIE examination.
9.
Webinar facility may be
introduced.
10.
The Application for change of
project guide may be decided at Local
Centre. The Chairman / Secretary may
be empowered to appoint a project
guide from the panel.
11.
The phone calls / Toll free line
not answered by HQ personnel.
12.

UK Delegation Visits
Pune Local Centre
A delegation from Institution of
Engineers at Derby, Staffordshire, UK
visited Institution of Engineers-Pune local
centre on 11 Nov. 2014 at 6:30 pm. The
delegation was lead by. Er. Gary Watson,
Chief of Environmental agency UK. .Er.
Carl Atkinson, the Managing Director of
FSI, the manufacturing company of fire
proof boards for construction, and Ms.
Rosy Baiwait, International relations
officer at Burton and South Derbyshire
College.UK were other members of the
delegation.
Er. Gary Watson who is Technical
Specialist and a member of the Institution
of Civil Engineers (ICE) also acts as a
Reviewer, interviewing prospective
candidates for membership of the ICE as
professionally qualified engineers. .He
has 33 years of carrier in National River
Authority in flood Risk Management.
Er. Gary Watson delivered lecture
on river flood management and presented
case study on Trent River flood
management project which he
successfully competed recently.
Mr. Watson shared his experience
of construction of river embankments,
Protection of structures & properties from
Trent river floods. The extensive flood
protection works were done along the
banks to control flood line and reduce the
area under flood influence. He explained
the ‘wider’ role of the Environment Agency,
as a regulator and a champion of
Environmental issues. He spoke about
history of flood management in the U.K.
before moving on to a greater focus on
the Agency’s current role in Flood Risk
Management.

He is a Member of the Institute of Chartered
Shipbrokers, London; International Maritime
Lecturers Association, Sweden; and Indian
Council of Arbitration.
He is a Senior Member of American Society for

Division of our Pune Local Centre for 8 years!

(Training), to Advisor (HR) in 30 years.

Employees Relations, HRD, performance
management and administration. Besides, has
association with Educational Institutions for higher

DR. GIRISH S. MUNDADA, FIE (E &TC)
is Professor in Electronics and Telecommunication
Engineering and Head of Training and Placement
Cell at PICT, Pune.
He did Ph.D from University of Pune; M.E. (Industrial
Electronics) from Maharaja Sayajirao University of
Baroda, and B.E. (Electronics) from Amravati
University.
He is a Member of the Institution of Engineers (India),
Pune Local Centre since 2004; and Maharashtra
State Centre of the Institution of Engineers (India)
since November 2014.
He has published 9 papers in Journals and
Conferences, 4 books on Engineering and a book
on “Research Methodology”. He is actively involved
in GATE and IES refresher courses.
His autobiography is published in “World’s Who’s
Who” by Marquis, USA for most influential person
in profession and work amongst top 50 k persons
qualified across world during silver jubilee edition.

K.K.Ghosh is working as Associate Professor,
Mechanical Engg.in College of Military Engg Pune.
He has done graduation in Mechanical Engg from
Govt Engg. College, Raipur in 1986 & post
graduation from Regional Engg. College, Bhopal
in1988.He has more than 25 yrs of teaching
experience in various Engg. Colleges of Raipur,
Nagpur & Pune.
He has worked as Hon. Secretary of the Pune
local centre for the session 2006- 2008. The
centre also received the best Centre award for
the year 2006-2007 & 2007-2008.
In this centre, he was instrumental in
successfully organizing Council Meeting of IE (I)
in June 2003 and National Convention of Marine
Engg in March 2006. He has contributed a lot in
successfully organizing Annual Technical Paper
Meet, and publication of Annual Technical Journal
for last three years.

Advisory committees, Managing committees,
Selection Committees in University, Institutions,
Colleges. Associated with IEIPLC for last 32
years. Presently, Committee member of Pune
Local Centre .
DR. SANJAY ZOPE (Mining)
Dr. Zope is the Head of DMC Finishing
School. He holds a Ph.D. in Production Engineering
from University of Pune. He has total 25 years of
experience in teaching, research, training &
administrator. He is Chartered Engineer &
Approved Valuer. He is the member of ISTE, IIIE,
& IIPE. He has published 7 papers in Conference
and Journal. He has worked in the capacity of
Principal of College of Engineering, & Director of
Group of Institutions, in various esteemed
educational institutions in and around Pune. He
is associated with the IEI at State & PLC for last 6
years. He is Convener of Mechanical Engineering
Division MSC, IEI for 2014 - 2016. He is also life
member of NIPM, Delhi and associated with Pune
Divisional Productivity Council.

Dear Sir,
I am Rohan Jadhav. Presently working in GE (Bangalore)
in Renewables Engineering. I was a student at the Centre in the
year 2002 and 2003 for my GATE preparation.
I visited the Pune Centre it was a great nostalgic moment.
I immensely benefitted by the coaching I got at the institute for
GATE. Great teachers, good ambience and disciplined culture. I
still cherish those moments and because of the Institution of
Engineers (PLC) I successfully qualified for GATE and got the
admission at IIT Roorkee.
I want to thank all at the Institution for the
benefits I got which were instrumental in laying the
foundation for my career.
I was well received by the Hon. Secretary, Er. Vasant
Shinde during my visit and thank him.
