AAUA Honours Own 32 New Ph.D. Holders
Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Wednesday last week, celebrated its 32 academic
staff who obtained Ph.D. at home and abroad in 2014 at a reception held in the new Senate
Building of the institution.
It will be recalled that the university management, in April 2012, celebrated its academic staff
who obtained Ph.D. at home and abroad from 2010 to 2012.
In his remark, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Femi Mimiko, congratulated the honourees and urged
them to focus on research that would make significant impact on the society.
Prof. Mimiko said, “I plead with you, let people know that this generation of Ph.D. holders in
the system are going to be adding value to the university and the society. As academics, our
research has to be relevant. A research that is not relevant to the day-to-day lives of the people
is not useful.”
While Prof. Mimiko said the university would give necessary support to those who were not
able to go abroad for their Ph.D. for post doctorate opportunities, he advised, “Let’s remain in
the business of academics. You must make up your mind on the need for you to give back to
the university that has been so good to you.”
Presenting the fresh Ph.D. holders, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Francis
Oyebade, said the university reveres knowledge and holds academic excellence in high esteem,
thus, the need to formally congratulate and felicitate with the honourees.
The Keynote Speakers at the event, Professors Niyi Akinnaso, Olu Aboluwoye, Olusola Ibukun,
Tomola Obamuyi, tasked honourees and other academics to direct their researches at solving
the various problems afflicting mankind and the society, and to jealously guard the virtue of
originality and preserve academic culture.
The Speakers also stressed the need for collaborative research efforts among the academics.
The event was attended by the other Principal Officers, Professors, Deans of Faculty, Directors
of Centres and Heads of Unit.
AAUA DVC Bows Out of Office amidst Encomia
Thanks the Vice Chancellor for the privilege to serve
Encomia were poured on the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Adekunle Ajasin University,
Akungba Akoko, Ondo State, Nigeria, Prof. Rotimi Ajayi, on Wednesday last week at reception
held in his honour by the university management to mark his exit from office.
Ajayi, a professor of Radiation and Health Physics, was eulogized by Principal Officers and
colleagues while the event lasted, saying his leadership style, loyalty and performances were
outstanding.
The Vice-chancellor, Prof. Femi Mimiko, in his remark, said Prof. Ajayi was deliberately saddled
with specific and sensitive responsibilities while in office, all of which he brilliantly and
creditably handled.
“Ajayi was able to read my lips, even when I have not verbalized words. I consider him qualified
to be my Director of operations”, Prof. Mimiko, noted.
Responding, Prof. Ajayi appreciated for God for sustaining him throughout the four years.
Prof. Ajayi thanked Prof. Mimiko for the confidence reposed in him to work under his
administration. He described the VC as an exemplary leader who has impacted him
tremendously.
The outgone DVC thanked all members of staff and students for their cooperation and support
while in office.
Prof. Mimiko Receives NLA Award of Excellence
The Nigerian Library Association, NLA, Ondo State Chapter, on Wednesday week, honoured the
Vice Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Prof. Femi Mimiko, with the
Award of Excellence in Library development.
Prof. Mimiko was honoured alongside the Vice Chancellor, Federal University of Technology,
Akure, FUTA, Prof. Adebiyi Daramola, and the Rector, Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, Prof.
Igbekele Ajibefun.
Prof. Mimiko received the award at the 2014 NLA Annual General Meeting/Conference held at
FUTA.
The Chair of the Planning Committee, Mr. A. M. Akomolafe said Prof. Mimiko was honoured
because of his great feat and noticeable landmark achievements in Library development,
noting, “It is also to your credit that AAUA Library, including the E-Library, is well stocked with
current books and journals.”
Responding on behalf of other awardees, Prof. Mimiko thanked the NLA for recognizing their
modest efforts in their respective institutions.
He assured the NLA of the awardees’ continuous support for the development of library.
Highlight of the event was the presentation of meritorious service award to the distinguished
executive members of the Association, including the AAUA Chief Library Officer and NLA
Treasurer, Mr. Oluwole Ifafesobi.
Ajasin Varsity Inaugurates Facility Managers for Senate
Building, Takes Over 30-CQ
Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State, Nigeria, on Tuesday last week,
commissioned the Briscoe Properties Limited, a property maintenance company, to manage its
new four-wing and iconic five-storey Senate Building.
Vice Chancellor, Prof. Femi Mimiko, officially gave the edifice to the facility managers for proper
maintenance.
The VC congratulated Briscoe Properties Limited for securing the contract having gone through
strenuous screening exercise with other contenders, urging the property maintenance company
to render best services to the university to justify the confidence reposed in it.
Prof. Mimiko stressed the need for the university community to cooperate with the facility
managers to ensure an effective maintenance of the Senate Building.
Other Principal Officers of the university who spoke at the event also counseled Briscoe
properties Ltd. to deliver excellent services to AAUA.
The General Manager, Mr. Kunle Ajifola, on behalf of Briscoe properties Ltd., appreciated the
university management for the confidence reposed in the company and promised to provide
excellent services for the university.
Meanwhile, the University Management on Thursday last week took over the 30-Classroom
Quadrangle (30-CQ) from the contractor handling the project, M/s Forstech Nig. Ltd.
The 30-CQ, which has reached 95 per cent completion, has four large halls, 26 classrooms, 30
offices, 28 conveniences, and a large open courtyard, among others.
The gigantic facility which has the seating capacity of about 5,000, was taken over from the
contractor as result of undue delay of completion.
Receiving the keys to the facility, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Femi Mimiko, who was not
impressed with the excessive delay of the project, asked the Physical Planning and
Development Unit of the university to complete the remaining five per cent of the project.
He thanked the consortium of consultants and the contractor in charge of the project for
working with the university.
The VC expressed the hope that the 30-CQ would be used for the forthcoming Second Semester
examinations.
AAUA Don Sets Postgraduate Record at Universiti Malaysia
A don in the Department of Linguistics and Languages, Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba
Akoko, Ondo State, Nigeria, Dr. Boluwaji Oshodi, has set a record of becoming the first Ph.D.
graduate and winning the inaugural award for the best postgraduate presentation of the Centre
for Language Studies, CLS, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak, UNIMAS.
In a statement, the UNIMAS Deputy Dean, Postgraduate and Research, Florence Gillian Kayad,
congratulated Dr. Oshodi on the successful completion of his postgraduate programme.
Kayad added, “I also wish to commend you for being a worthy ambassador, an outstanding and
exemplary student who laid a solid foundation for current and prospective postgraduate
students at the Centre.”
In congratulatory message, the AAUA Registrar, Mr. Bamidele Olotu, through the Principal
Assistant Registrar (Personnel Division), Mrs. Ajoke Araoyinbo, on behalf of the Vice Chancellor,
Prof. Femi Mimiko, congratulated Dr. Oshodi on the feat and for doing AAUA proud, saying,
“You have proved yourself as an academic that can interface with other academics anywhere in
the world.”

The 2014 edition of AAUA Staff Children Xmas Party has been scheduled for Friday, December
19, 2014 in the University Multipurpose Hall at 10.00 a.m.
