The choir will also sing at our 8:00 Mass that evening. QofP– 149 p.2 PASTOR’S COLUMN: Dear Friends In Christ, The reflection from our Sacred Space Advent booklets has this to say about today's Gospel: Christmas highlights the belief that God is in all of us. We can ignore that, or we can help God help us. We can ignore that, or we can help God be found in all of us. God is active through each of us for each other. As we are now in the very immediate time of preparation for Christ to be renewed in us this Christmas, let us also imitate Mary in being open to receiving God's perfect gift of grace. In this way, we do allow God to be found in all of us by means of His grace, and, by that same grace, may we all help one another to grow in faith. Be assured of a special remembrance for you and your families at all of the Masses that I will celebrate this Christmas. May the Christ Child bring you peace and joy and much love. Yours in Christ, Father John Nordeman WORLD MEETING OF FAMILIES 2015 HOST A FAMILY Welcome Visitors with hospitality Many of our visiting families are traveling long distances to reach the World Meeting of Families – Philadelphia 2015. As an affordable alternative to hotel accommodations and to support the volume of people coming to the Philadelphia area, we are offering families located in the Philadelphia region the opportunity to open their doors to our visitors. Host Families can host visitors in a spare bedroom, a vacated apartment or any amenable facility. Visiting individuals and families can then search the Host Family database to find hosts to be matched too. When registering as a Host Family, you will include information on your hosting situation (bedrooms, family hobbies, pets, allergies, access to public transportation, etc.) Additionally, each visiting family will pay a nightly fee to the Host Family. The Host Family can use that money to offset costs, buy breakfast each day, donate to the visiting family, or in any other way desired. Your role, as a Host Family is pivotal in enabling many families to make this trip safe and affordable. If you would like to open your home to a World Meeting of Families Visitor, you can register at https://worldmeeting2015.homestaymanager.com/host /sign_up or e-mail us at [email protected] Visit: www.WorldMeeting2015.org You can text “World” to 51555 for updates or text “Pray to 80888 with your prayer intentions & to make a $10 donation. Follow us on Twitter @WMF2015. Like us on Facebook! In order to help us prepare for the World Meeting of Families and the anticipated visit from Pope Francis, a catechism on family life entitled, Love is Our Mission: The Family Fully Alive, has been prepared. You can order a copy of this beautifully illustrated catechism and learn about the World Meeting of Families at WorldMeeting2015.org. Adult Faith Formation at Queen of Peace A few weeks after the New Year, in January, we are going to offer you a blessed opportunity to grow in your faith. We are going to be viewing, in small groups, the inspiring and informative DVD series produced and narrated by Father Robert Barron. The series is called Catholicism and Father Barron is an excellent presenter who went all around the world to film at the great sites of Christianity in order to form us all in our Catholic faith. In one instance, he filmed at the site of Jesus' birth in Bethlehem as he speaks to us about the Incarnation. In another instance he goes to the Mount of the Beatitudes when he speaks about Jesus' great Sermon on the Mount and so on. A number of our parishioners have already viewed the series and had the opportunity for discussion about each part of the series and how it nurtured their own faith. They will be helping to facilitate conversation among all who will come share in this faithful, fruitful endeavor as we seek to grow together as the Body of Christ, the Church. Times and places to meet will be posted soon in the bulletin. We hope and pray that you will consider joining us for this time of prayer, learning and reflection. Christmas Prayer for All Families Loving God, During this holy season of Christmas, we ask for your blessing on all families. Let Mary’s openness to your wondrous ways be an inspiration to place all our trust in You. Let Joseph’s courage provide hope during times of anxiety and uncertainty. Let Jesus’ life ignite all families with a spirit of light and love. May the grace that encircled the Holy Family widen to embrace all families. For this we pray. Amen. FROM THE ADVANCEMENT OFFICE OF GOOD SHEPHERD CATHOLIC SCHOOL Experience GSC “The meaning of Christmas . . .” Our 3rd and 8th grade students have graciously shared with us their thoughts regarding the meaning of Christmas, offering insights about their relationship with God and Jesus. Below are their sincere words, gifts for us all. We hope they inspire you in your faith during this blessed season. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! 3RD GRADE The meaning of Christmas for me is celebrating the birth of Jesus, going to Mass, spending time with my family and spreading joy. Christmas to me is celebrating Jesus’ birthday and going to Mass, opening presents and getting together with my family. Christmas to me is Jesus’ birthday! I enjoy opening my presents and seeing others open presents in front of me. On Christmas Eve I go to Church and on Christmas morning I make hot chocolate for my entire family. QofP – 149 pg. 6 The real meaning of Christmas for me is celebrating Jesus’ birthday on Christmas day and spreading all the joy. Christmas to me is celebrating Jesus’ birthday, going to Mass and praying to Jesus. 8TH GRADE Christmas means spending time with your family like Jesus, Mary and Joseph did. Going to Church with my family always strengthens my relationship with God. Christmas to me means the night the Savior was born. It is a time families are brought together, it reminds me of the holy family. Christmas is a time to give to others; it makes me feel better about myself. Christmas is a time to spend with family. God is our Savior, he is in my heart and I love him with all my heart. Christmas is the best time of the year; you get to be with family and friends. God is the most important during this season; you pray that the New Year brings happiness and joy. Christmas is a time of celebration. We celebrate the birth of Jesus. Christmas is a time to thank God and to help others. Thank you for honoring Good Shepherd Catholic School with your faith, commitment & support. May God bless you & your family with happiness, good health, joy & peace! Barbara A.
