The tourism initiative was the brain-child of the hotel’s General Manager, Mark Tobin and actively supported by Visit Somerset, Visit England, the Wells Civic Society and over 20 of the counties main visitor attractions. A date has already been agreed for a similar event at the hotel in October 2015! Wells Town Crier, Len Sweales announces the arrival of our international visitors to Wells Mark’s message During my 20 years at the hotel I have been privileged to be involved in a multitude of amazing events, but the last few weeks have been among the most rewarding that I can remember. The hotel has attracted an amazing amount of positive publicity – not bad for an old girl approaching 600 years of age! Taking centre stage was Destination Wells and the Somerset Tourism Expo, the biggest tourist event that the county has seen. Tour operators from around the world flocked to the hotel to enjoy a weekend that showcased the region as a destination worthy of any overseas tour. Feedback from all those involved was so overwhelmingly positive that an even bigger event is planned at the hotel in 2015. The hotel also starred in a prime time national TV advertising campaign by Best Western. You might have seen us on ITV3. Lights, camera, action! A warm welcome Valentine’s weekend And as one film crew left another two arrived! The first filmed our new hotel video (which you can view on our website), while the second – together with a host of famous actors and actresses – stayed during filming of a major BBC production. Over the coming weeks the next phase of our bedroom refurbishment programme gets underway.
