The bridal shower originated with a Dutch maiden who fell in love with an impoverished miller. Her
friends “showered” her and her groom with many gifts so the couple could do without her dowry.

Set your Wedding Date. One of the most important aspects of your Wedding is the Date. Here is some additional
information you may like to consider when setting your Wedding Date:
{Season}
One of the first things you may want to consider when setting your date is the season. Do you want to be married
during the Summer, Autumn, Winter or Spring? Not only is this important for you and your bridal party but your
guests as well. The season will also help determine whether it can be an indoor or outdoor wedding. Keep in mind
that in Townsville the Wet Season can be very unpredictable. During the months of Nov-March. The following
information of Rainfall Charts has been derived from http://www.auinfo.com/Townsville.html

Dry Season: June - October

{Defence Schedule}
If you or your partner are in the Defence Forces, you’ll need to take into consideration any planned deployments or
yearly training schedules. Having either yourself or your partner away for an extended period of time will mean that
limited decisions and preparation can be made together during these times.
{Venues, Photographers, Makeup Artists, Hair Dressers}
If you have your heart set on a specific Wedding Supplier, such as a Photographer, Makeup Artist, Hair Dresser,
Celebrant, it is best to check their availability before setting your Wedding Date in stone.

Choose the Members of your Bridal Party.
Choosing your bridal party can be one of the most exciting parts of planning your wedding, but it can also be one
of the most stressful. If you pick one of your best friends to be a bridesmaid, but not the other, it can lead to hurt
feelings. The group you choose should represent your closest friends, family members or loved ones who will be
there for support, guidance and to help plan for the big day. Heavily weigh the importance of the people who have
been in your life for a long time. It’s important to select people who have played an important role in your life leading
up to your wedding and that will remain just as important in the future. Keep in mind that the people you choose
will forever remain in the photos from your wedding day.

DID YOU KNOW?
Engagement and wedding rings are worn on the 4th finger of the left hand because it was thought that a vein in that
finger led directly to the heart. The vein was called vena amori, or the vein of love, and early writings on matrimonial
procedure suggested that it would be appropriate for one’s wedding ring to be worn on that special finger.

VIDEOGRAPHERS
for your special day
WHY EMPLOY A VIDEOGRAPHER?
Always have the opportunity to re-live that moment when you profess your undying love to one another during your exchange of vows.
Imagine sitting down for a romantic candle lit dinner each anniversary and being able to completely re-live, in vivid colour and motion, that
exact moment and the butterflies you felt.
So what questions should you ask your potential Videographer? Or what should you research beforehand?
1. Style. What type of style would you prefer your Wedding Video be in? Cinematic or Documentary? Or perhaps a mixture of the two?
2. Would you like simply a full wedding video of the ceremony, or perhaps a mixture of stills, slow-motion, “the kiss”, the announcement..
3. Is your Videographer happy to meet with your Photographer? it is a good idea to have a three-way meeting, just to make sure all parties
have an understanding of the angle the other party is taking, and can accommodate to their needs (i.e. so the Videographer doesn’t take the
opposite angle as the Photographer and your entire video has your photographer down on one knee taking shots in the background)

PHOTO BOOTHS
Memories & Fun Keepsake Photos
WHY A PHOTO BOOTH?
Photo Booths are a great, fun way of getting some interesting and memorable photographs from your wedding reception. It will show your
friends and loved ones in their true, fun character and bring entertainment.
No body is too young or too old to enjoy the entertainment of a photo booth, be it your brother and sister holding their newborn baby
or grandma and grandpa sneaking a kiss like they did when they were high school sweethearts, or your crazy mates pulling all sorts of
incriminating faces for the camera.
Your booth could double as a Guest Book - why not take along (or hire) a black board and have your guests write notes on them, holding the
board up when posing for their photos.

TRASH THE DRESS - DEFINITION (Wikipedia Entry)
“Trash the dress”, also known as “fearless bridal” or “rock the frock”, is a style of wedding photography
that contrasts elegant clothing with an environment in which it is out of place. It is generally shot in the
style of fashion or glamour photography. Such photography often takes place on a beach, but other
locations include city streets, rooftops, garbage dumps, fields, and abandoned buildings.

About Face…….a guide to putting your best (bridal) face forward.
Facebook. The best makeup artist for YOU, is the one YOU are
the most comfortable with, who can see YOUR vision and can
deliver the look that YOU love. With that in mind I have gathered
together a list of hints to help brides of all ages, no matter what
stage of planning.
• ASK OTHER BRIDES……
Word of mouth is a very powerful advertiser. If you see someone
who has a makeup look you particularly like, don’t be afraid to
ask if they had it professionally done, and get details.
• VISIT BRIDAL EXPOS…..
Don’t just walk on by because tou haven’t heard of the makeup

may find exactly what you are looking for!!

Selecting your Flowers
Will you go Real or Artificial flowers? In our North Queensland climate, humidity can be a big issue. Whilst you also need to consider some
flower varieties are unavailable due to seasonal factors. Nothing quiet beats the floral scent of real flowers. But did you know, artificial
blooms can be scented with pure flower extract, so they, too, look and smell real? But will not wilt in the humidity, nor will they die after a few
days. And what's more, you can organise them in advance and keep them (without a preserving fee like real flowers) forever. Take a look at
the above photographs - all of artificial 'realistic' flowers. Can you tell the difference?

Gifts for
your Guests
BOMBONIERE - WHAT TO GET?
The word “Bomboniere” is Italian for “Gifts” - traditionally, at special occasions the Host/Hostess will present their Guests with a Gift, in order
to thank them for their attendance and well wishes in their union. Bomboniere was introduced by the upper class society of 16th century
France and has forever been a tradition of “Gratitude” to those who attend. So, what to get? Following are some ideas & businesses from
which you can purchase your Bomboniere Gifts from, locally.

wishing wells
Cages, Chests, Boxes & Trees
TO HAVE OR NOT TO HAVE?
In modern society, most couples are living
together long before their wedding day. With this
being the case, traditional gifts of pots & pans,
linen or glassware is not necessary (or necessarily
wanted). The solution is to incorporate a wishing
well, cage or chest into your wedding.
But how do you tell people about it? By
incorporating a small “Wishing Well / Cage /
Chest” card into your stationery package, that
us on our way!
But if you had something else in mind,
we’re sure a place for it we’ll find.
Most important is your presence this
day and night, as our wedding
without you just won’t be right.”
“We’d love to have you with us
when all our dreams come true.
We want to know that your presence,
over presents, will truly do!
But if we’re honoured with a
gift from you, please think to wish us
well. May we respectfully request
a donation to our wedding wishing well.”
will go out with the invitation itself. The card can
be in line with your stationery and can entail
a romantic or funny poem. Below are some
samples of wording:
“Many guests have enquired
for a gift inspired ~
A wishing well we thought
would be great,
but only if you wish to participate.
A gift of money you can afford
will be very appreciated,
you are assured.”
“To save you looking,
shopping and buying,
here’s an idea we hope you like trying.
In place of a kettle, toaster
and serving tray,
a gift of money would help
“We don’t want to offend
but we have it all.
All household goods and
so much more.
To save you shopping,
sit back and rest.
A gift of currency is our request!
Don’t go berserk or rob any banks
any little amount will
be met with thanks.
Now that we have saved you
all of the fuss,
we hope you can come and
celebrate with us.”
“In our house we have the things
that living together normally brings.
Most household items we’ve
already bought and because of
this reason we thoughtA wishing well would be great
but only if you wish to participate.
A gift of money is placed
in an envelope,
so in the future we hope
to furnish our house to it’s very best
and always remember it was
due to our guests.”
“We have in mind, the things to find
to make our house a home.
A money gift would help us set
the scene where love will roam!”
“Because at first we lived in sin
We’ve got the sheets and a rubbish bin
A gift from you would be swell
But we’d prefer a donation to our Wishing Well”
"The date has been set,
and we’d love you to come,
To our wedding up north, a long way for some,
All you must do, is decide what to wear,
Then polish your jewellery and cob your hair.
Don’t worry about gifts, don’t buy us a yacht,
The things that we need, we’ve already got.
Don’t go out shopping or get yourself stressed,
Don’t alter your plans for a pre-wedding rest.
If you want to be generous,
to the soon to be wed
Then save yourself the hassle
and do this instead…..
Contribute to our wishing well, we will be grateful,
We’ll go somewhere cool, where it will be blissful,

For your Wedding Cake
Choosing the perfect wedding cake topper for your special day can, at
first, seem like a major problem for someone who has no idea where to
start in the process. Sit down with your fiance and discuss what type
you both like. The options are plentiful - with humerous toppers, flower
toppers, crystal toppers, glass toppers, the list really does go on. Here
are some samples of the most popular cake toppers (all from Jo's

toppers, or you could use fresh flowers from your florist, or flowers you
