Advent is a time of a new beginning, a coming, a happening. It is the time of prayer and preparation for the Coming of Christ at the end of time and the celebration of Christas, the Birhday of Our Lord Jesus. It is a wonderfl time to discover the joy of Christ calling us to be ready to geet Him. The Gospel is the Good News of Christ living at our side ever day to enlighten, stenghen and fee us, not exactly the Christas presents we can buy at the shop or on-line! Christastime is our ent into the more profound and deep tth of ' God with us'. The Incaration, God bor for us and dwelling among us. Christas is a time of prayer for peace - but sadly conflicts can be much closer than we think - they can be in our hears, our families and our day to day relations with others. We need God's help to let go of anger and hur, and let te peace reig in our hears. 2015 is the New Year. A New Year to pray for ourselves, our needs and wants and a New Year to pray for others, for the single parent, for prisoners, for those who are redundant or long ter unemployed, for those suffering fom illness, physical and mental, for the bereaved and those who mour their loved ones at this time. Lord Jesus, we seek Your love for Advent, Christastide and the New Year - be the direction of our lives. Father John Blacker St Thomas More Catholic Church. Please support your Parish Council, if you agree with the NDP, by sending in a response form to Wiltshire Council. These forms are available from the Parish office, the library or Wiltshire Council’s planning portal. Trowbridge, Wiltshire, BA14 8JN SALISBURY PLAIN NEWS There will be a reduction in military training over the Christmas period together with a reduction in firing noise. It was interesting to note the other day that the weather conditions were such that I could hear mortars firing near the Ridgeway while I was sitting in Waitrose car park in Marlborough! For those wishing to visit Imber village, the roads will be open from 4pm on 18th December to 8.00am on 5th January. CONSERVATION NEWS The recent unusually warm weather led to sightings of Red Admiral and other butterflies in early November, but regrettably they will not last long as hard frosts were warned for a week later. But the warm weather has also delayed the arrival of flocks of our Scandinavian visitors such as the Redwing and Fieldfare although small numbers of both have been reported. A few Short eared Owls have been reported as well as Hen Harriers. At my recent Bulford Conservation Group meeting, my ringing team listed ringing 229 birds in the year up to September including: 5 Buzzard, 55 Kestrel, 37 Barn Owl, 36 Tawny Owl , 21 Great Tit and 2 Ravens all in nests or boxes. Garden birds are more active now that their food is more scarce; my bird feeders are being "raided" by Magpies and Jackdaws which keep the smaller birds away as does the occasional and colourful Greatspotted Woodpecker. Often developers object to NDP Plans as they are being formed on the grounds that they do not allow for enough development. This is your chance to support the Pewsey NDP if you think it says the right things. Do you agree that development should happen only within the line which shows the limit of development, that there should be a balance between housing and employment so there are enough jobs near to where people live, there should be enough affordable houses and green areas should be protected? AMBLERS The winter walks leave the B. Hall at 9.30am (prompt) on the 1st Saturday of each month being:- 6th December, 3rd January,7th February, 7th March and 4th April (Easter) if you would like to join us either turn up on the day Or for more information please ring 01672 563474. All this and more you will find in the NDP which is quite short and readable. All the other documents are supporting documents which are a requirement for planning to show that the NDP is sound, but not necessarily ones to wade through if you are short of time. Here's to happy walking. Pewsey Vale Gardening Club PREPARE for POTATO DAY! Sunday 18th January 2015, Bouverie Hall - 10am until 2pm Pewsey Potato Day has now become a popular annual event for local gardeners. In conjunction with Pennard Plants, we shall again be offering at least 80 different varieties of seed potatoes for sale by the individual tuber. This means that if you want to experiment to see which variety you like and which grows best in your garden, you can buy one or two of several types rather than a big bag of just one. For expert growers, there will be several new blight-resistant types from the Sarpo range. But it is not just potatoes. There will also be a selection of seeds, bulbs, plants and trees to tempt you, all at very reasonable prices. The event is open to all and admission is £1 per head, to include refreshments. Mark the centre of the circle (lightly fold it into quarters to find the centre). · Copy the face and features on to the circle and colour them in. · Mark the dotted lines and cut around them and around the halo and hair as marked. · Fold the angel into a cone by putting one wing over the other and slotting them together. A little piece of sellotape will hold it firmly. We hear a lot about angels at Christmas. A lot of the carols we sing have angels in them – like ‘Hark the Herald Angels Sing’ and ‘While Shepherds Watched Their Flocks by Night’. Angels are God’s messengers and you can read about the good news they brought to the shepherds in Luke’s Gospel, chapter 2, verses 8-20. MAKE YOUR OWN CHRISTMAS ANGEL You can make a whole host of angels, one for the top of the tree and a row of them, all different sizes, to go on a windowsill. To alter the size simply draw a bigger or smaller circle, you could use a dinner plate or a small tin to draw round. You could even make a giant angel using a dustbin lid! You will need: Scissors, thick white paper or thin white card, some felt tip pens and something circular to draw round (use a small plate or saucer to start with). How do angels greet each other? They say, Halo. How Many Angels Do You Need This Year? What do fish sing at Christmas? Shark, the herald angels sing. Merry Christmas 18
