Job Opening
The German Embassy in Washington, DC is seeking to fill an opening for an Office
Assistant in the Political Affairs Department starting February 1, 2015 (for an initial period
of one year).
Duties and Responsibilities
 Perform clerical work in English and German, also by dictation
 Arrange appointments for desk officers
 Arrange appointments with the Senate and House of Representatives for visiting
political figures from Germany
 Prepare visitors programs and related written and telephone correspondence
 Internet research
 Respond to and/or forward telephone inquiries
 Maintain departmental contact databases
Qualifications and Requirements
 Several years’ experience as a foreign-language assistant or secretary
 Very good language skills in written and spoken German and English
 Very good computer skills, in particular Word, Excel, OpenOffice
 Organizational skills and ability to work in a team
 Loyalty and discretion
 Self-assured, professional manner
 Protocol and negotiation skills
 Prior administrative experience
Contract conditions and compensation are based on the standard employment agreement
for nondiplomatic staff at the German foreign missions in the U.S. and on the
corresponding pay scale.

an unrestricted work permit.
