a month on Mondays from 4:30-6pm. Registration forms
will be available after the meeting.
The Center in Asbury Park assists people living with
HIV/AIDS in Monmouth & Ocean Counties. One vital part
of their program is to provide food and hygiene items for
their clients. The “Meals to Go” program provides homecooked frozen meals to patients unable to cook for
themselves. We’re asking Nativity parishioners to help The
Center stock their freezer shelves. Microwavable food
storage containers are located in the parish office kitchen
(can access through library when parish office is closed). If
interested, please pick up a few containers, fill them with
your home cooking and return them to the Church freezer in
the parish office (Monday-Friday, 9am-12pm & 1pm-5pm).
On a weekly basis these meals will be brought to the
Center in Asbury Park. Any questions call Kathy Ramirez
(732) 747-1375 or Eileen Mahoney (732) 936-0688. Thank
you for your time and effort.
- Summer session 2014: Summer Session call back #4
will be held on Monday, 1/12 in assigned classrooms
from 4:30-6pm.

HARDING BIRD SANCTUARY
2015 BLOOD DRIVE
It is that time again to roll up our sleeves and donate a pint
of blood. The Annual Nativity Blood Drive will be held on
Sunday, 1/11 from 9am to 1pm in the parish hall. During
this season of giving, the best present anyone can give is
the gift of life. By donating 1 pint of blood 3 lives are
saved. Please consider spending 30 minutes to make a
difference in another person's life. The blood supply is very
low especially during the holiday season and all help is
appreciated. You must be 17 years of age or older to
donate. To make an appointment you may visit our webiste
for online sign-ups or call Raquel Falotico at 732-741-2050.
Walk-ins are also welcomed.
MUSIC MINISTRY AT NATIVITY
Do you know about the hidden gem in Fair Haven called
Harding Bird Sanctuary? Consisting of ~6.5 acres of
woodland preserve it is bordered by Ridge, Harding and
Harvard roads in Fair Haven. It is home to a variety of large
trees many of which are over 100 years old. There are
oaks, maples, tulip trees and domesticated shrubs like
mountain laurel. The birds that visit the sanctuary have
seeded some of these trees and plants.
The Harding Bird Sanctuary is on the eastern flyway and
attracts many species of birds, from House Wrens to Great
Horned Owls. The Harding family, who owned the property
originally, donated it to the town of Fair Haven in 1950 to
“be used only for park and playground purposes.”
Unfortunately, the Sanctuary was damaged in 2012 during
Hurricane Sandy. After contacting the Fair Haven Garden
Club which acts as the caretaker of the Sanctuary, I
decided to take on the project of restoring the Sanctuary for
my Girl Scout Silver Award.
Work on the Sanctuary started with trail maintenance
performed with the help of a team of girl scouts. Then I
created a trail map and created bird cards of the species
that are commonly found in the Sanctuary. The cards
contain colored photographs and information about each
bird. Visitors to the Sanctuary can pick these up at the
entrance and use them for reference during their hike.
I hope you too will have the chance to visit and enjoy the
Fair Haven Bird Sanctuary soon!

FAMILY LIFE / RESPECT LIFE
“At the moment of conception there is a developing
human being within the womb of a woman or
medical/scientific laboratory.”
“[W]e are facing an enormous and dramatic clash between
good and evil, death and life, the 'culture of death' and the
'culture of life'. We find ourselves not only 'faced with' but
necessarily 'in the midst of' this conflict: we are all involved
and we all share in it, with the inescapable responsibility of
choosing to be unconditionally pro-life."
~Pope John Paul II, Evangelium Vitae, 28.
MARRIAGE ENCOUNTER WEEKEND
For a truly meaningful Christmas present, one that lasts
long after the decorations have been put away, why not
give your spouse the gift of a Marriage Encounter
Weekend? A Worldwide Marriage Encounter Weekend
(WMEW) gives you the time and tools to revitalize romance,
deepen communication, and nourish the spirituality in your
marriage. The next WMEW will be held January 16-18.
Early registration is advisable as space is limited. Please
call 732-904-9636 for registration and information. Visit us
at www.aweekendforyourmarriage.org for more information.
IS GOD CALLING YOU TO BE A PRIEST?
If you are a faithful, single, Roman Catholic man, between
the ages of 18 and 40, and are asking yourself whether God
is calling you to be a priest, you are cordially invited to
attend this month's Open House Discernment Meeting on
Sunday, 12/28 from 3-6pm at The Church of the Sacred
Heart Rectory in Trenton. Join Very Rev. Dennis Apoldite
and some of the men of the House of Discernment, as they
share their experiences of the Priesthood. Please register
with the Diocese of Trenton Vocation Office at
[email protected] or call 609-406-7449.
ONE SOLITARY LIFE
(Jesus Christ)
Here is a man who was born in an obscure
village, the child of a peasant woman. He grew
up in another village. He worked in a carpenter
shop until He was thirty. Then for three years
He was an itinerant preacher.
He never owned a home. He never wrote a
book. He never held an office. He never had a
family. He never went to college. He never put
His foot inside a big city. He never traveled two
hundred miles from the place He was born. He
never did one of the things that usually
accompany greatness. He had no credentials
but Himself…
While still a young man, the tide of popular
opinion turned against him. His friends ran
away. One of them denied Him. He was turned
over to His enemies. He went through the
mockery of a trial. He was nailed upon a cross
between two thieves. While He was dying His
executioners gambled for the only piece of
property He had on earth – his coat. When He
was dead, He was laid in a borrowed grave
through the pity of a friend.
Nineteen long centuries have come and gone,
and today He is a centerpiece of the human
race and leader of the column of progress.

I am far within the mark when I say that all the
armies that ever marched, all the navies that
were ever built; all the parliaments that ever sat
and all the kings that ever reigned, put together,
have not affected the life of man upon this earth
as powerfully as has that one solitary life.
