CODE OF ETHICS
1)
Members shall maintain the best possible standards of health and environment
for their dogs, not keeping more than they can properly care for.
2)
Stud Dogs and Brood Bitches shall be in good health and condition, and ideally
free from hereditary defects.
Due consideration should be given to type and temperament before breeding a
litter.
Members shall strive to eradicate hereditary defects from the breed.
3)
Bitches under the age of 15 months and over the age of 8 years shall not be
used for breeding, and neither shall a bitch be bred from more than twice out of
three successive seasons.
4)
Every care shall be taken when selling puppies or older dogs, at home or
abroad, ensuring that no stock is sold to laboratories, pet shops or dealers.
Breeders shall also help with the re- homing of a dog, sold by them, should this
become necessary.
5)
Members are required to maintain and pass on to buyers of stock, accurate
records of health, pedigree and registration documentation, as well as advice
on feeding, rearing and general care for the dog.
6)
Members must accept that, like people, dogs grow old and need special care
and attention. They must therefore be prepared to love and care for a dog, for
all its life whilst in their ownership.

Health Register The breed Health Register can be found in ‘The Collie/Health’
section of the Club’s website:
http://www.e-a-c-a.co.uk/Health%20Register.html
Patrons: Mr. A. J. & Mrs. P. Barnard
The database includes test results for breed-related health issues ie. DNA results
for CEA/CH, PRArcd2, MDR1 & DM; KC/BVA clinical results for CEA/PRA and hips/
elbows, and ECVO (AHT) clinical results for CEA/PRA. The Register is a useful tool
for breeders wishing to check out the health status of specific dogs/bitches.
Secretary: Miranda Blake
Chairperson: Tina May
Treasurer: Cathy Howard
Memb./Show Secretary: Lisa Pettitt
There are currently in excess of 150 Rough Collies on the database, and anyone
wishing to have their dog’s details included must please submit: KC registered name
of Collie; sire and dam; colour; sex; year of birth; copies of relevant health certificates
and a high resolution image (preferably full profile).
N.B. The EACA accepts test results from all laboratories including Animal Genetics,
Antigene, Genomia, Laboklin, Optigen & Slovgen.
AHT’s DNA Archive for Rough & Smooth Collies. DNA swab kits, with instructions,
are available on the Club’s Health Stand.
DNA testing at EACA’s Championship Show in August There are concerns about
breeders collecting DNA samples from their own dogs as the DNA sample may not
be from the dog it is purported to be! DNA sampling (for MDR1, CEA/CH & DM)
will therefore be carried out at the show and owners must provide KC & microchip
registration certificates for each dog to be tested (the dog’s microchip will be scanned
before the mouth swab is taken). Each test costs approx £30.00 with a reduced fee if
more than 25 dogs are tested. Payment will be requested by the lab prior to the result
being submitted to the breeder.

JOHNNY REID (CATCHWELL)
I have owned and shown Rough Collies since 1981, and recently Schipperkes have joined the household. Our affix ‘Catchwell’ was granted in 2004.
Ronansprey Robert de Niro at Catchwell has been my most successful show winning Collie, gaining
one CC and three RCCs. He was a tricolour sired by Ronansprey Rowland Rivron x Lynaire Back to
the Fuschia at Ronansprey. Ronansprey Sparkle at Catchwell, our blue bitch has also been shown with
some degree of success.
In 2011 we joined forces with Keith and Terri Brand in owning the Ronansprey affix, and have recently been jointly showing Rosschell Ice Kiss in the Mist at Ronansprey who has gained her JW. Also
Ronansprey Midnight Kiss and Ronansprey Rumor Has It, whe are daughters from our Coarhabeg Crystal Spirit and sired by Willowdene Double or Quits at Wassail.
I have owned horses and ponies which I have shown in hand at local and county show level.
I have been a committee member, Vice Chair and Chairman for the Northumberland and Durham
Collie Club. I am a founder member of the Durham County Canine Association, and have also served on
a number of local General Canine Committees.
I am looking forward to judging the Roughs and Smooths at the East Anglian Collie Association spring
show.

Until the late nineties my Collies were purely pets and companions, but I then thought I would look
for one which was suitable to show. Thanks to Julie and Sam Bedford I purchased ‘Sachenda Rockin
Robyn’ (Jess), and with their help was introduced to the show ring with some degree of success. Jess
had a nice litter of eight in 2006, and although we showed three of the puppies, it was ‘Sabiha’s Sweet
Melody’ who lived with close friends in Lincolnshire, who really made a name for herself.
For a long time, I had always thought about having a Blue Merle, and finally in 2013 I went to see
a litter bred by Caroline and Jon Tipper, and fell in love at first sight with ‘Tiganlea Silver Trinket’. She
has in the last 16 months proved to be a nice Collie, and has done us proud in the show ring. We hope
to continue with her after letting her have a litter next year.
I would like to thank the committee for asking me to judge the Special Award Classes for the
Rough/Smooth Collie breeds at their April Open Show, and I wish all exhibitors a successful and
enjoyable day.

11. Best Puppy in Show. From 1st January 2015, and for a period of two years the Kennel Club
Show Regulations which stipulate that dogs must be entered and exhibited in a breed class
before exhibiting in an Any Variety Class/Stakes Class and that only unbeaten dogs are eligible to
compete in the group or best in show competitions are suspended. (Please refer to the FAQs on
the Kennel Club Website for further information).
(a) Where a Best Puppy in Show competition is scheduled the Best Puppy in Show is a puppy which
has competed and is unbeaten by any other puppy exhibited at the same Show. A puppy is a dog of
six and not exceeding twelve calendar months of age on the first day of the Show. Where the Best
of Breed or Best in Show is a puppy it will also automatically be Best Puppy in Breed and Best Puppy
in Show. Similarly, if the Reserve Best of Breed or Reserve Best in Show is a puppy which has only
been beaten by an adult dog it will also automatically be Best Puppy in Breed and Best Puppy in Show.
Consequently, selection of Best Puppy in Breed and Best Puppy in Show must follow the selection
of Best of Breed and Best in Show.
Best Puppy in Show must be selected from puppies which have been judged and which are unbeaten
by any other puppy.
(b) Withdrawal from Other Competition: Puppies which become eligible for Best Puppy in Show may
be withdrawn from all other competition, other than breed classes, prior to the competition for Best
Puppy in Show, in order to remain unbeaten. A puppy beaten in competition for Best Puppy in
Show may subsequently be exhibited in all competition for which it was previously eligible. The dog
declared Best Puppy in Show, however, must not compete in any subsequent competition. Puppies
may be withdrawn from AV Classes when judged before breed classes.

Best in Show. From 1st January 2015, and for a period of two years the Kennel Club Show
Regulations which stipulate that dogs must be entered and exhibited in a breed class before
exhibiting in an Any Variety Class/Stakes Class and that only unbeaten dogs are eligible to
compete in the group or best in show competitions are suspended. (Please refer to the FAQs on
the Kennel Club Website for further information).
(a) The dog declared Best in Show is a dog which has competed and is unbeaten by any other dog
exhibited at the same Show. Best in Show must be selected from all unbeaten winning dogs.
Reserve Best in Show must be selected from the remaining unbeaten Best of Breed(s) and the dog/
bitch declared by the Judge to be Reserve Best of Breed to the dog declared Best in Show.
The dogs declared Best in Show and Reserve Best in Show must not compete in any subsequent
competition.
(b) Withdrawal from Other Competition: Dogs which become eligible for Best in Show may be withdrawn
from all other competition, other than breed classes and Best of Breed prior to the competition for
Best in Show as appropriate in order to remain unbeaten. A dog beaten in competition for Best in
Show may subsequently be exhibited in all competition for which it was previously eligible. The dogs
declared Best in Show and Reserve Best in Show however, must not compete in any subsequent
competition. Dogs may be withdrawn from AV Classes when judged before breed classes.
(c) Proviso: For the purposes of this Regulation, dogs beaten in competition for Stud Dog, Brood Bitch,
Progeny, Brace and Team or a Special Award confined to a single breed, will not be considered to be
beaten dogs.
Exhibits will not be admitted to Best in Show competition after a period of ten minutes has elapsed since
the announcement that exhibits are required for judging, unless they have been unavoidably delayed by
previous judging not being completed on time, and then only with the special permission of the Show
Management.
No modifications will be made to this Schedule except by permission of the General Committee of the
Kennel Club, which will be followed by advertisement in the Canine Press wherever possible.
All exhibitors must be familiar with Kennel Club Regulation F (Annex B) – Regulations for the Preparation
of Dogs for Exhibition.
All dogs resident outside the UK must be issued with a Kennel Club Authority to Compete number before
entry to the show can be made. All overseas entries without an Authority to Compete number will be
returned to the exhibitor.
Dogs in Cars on Hot Days. Your dog is vulnerable and at risk during hot weather and the Kennel Club
offers the following guidance to help guide you through the do’s and don’ts travelling to and whilst at KC
licensed events.
• When travelling to a show please take a moment to consider whether the route to the show is on a busy
holiday route, and leave earlier to avoid increased time in traffic jams.
• If your vehicle is not air-conditioned seriously consider whether travelling to the show is a good idea at all.
• The vehicle should be as fully ventilated as possible, and plenty of stops should be taken, with lots of
water available to drink.
• Ensure your dog is not sitting in full sunlight. There should be plenty of free flowing air around the dog.
• When at the show, never leave your dog in the vehicle.
• Keep the dog in the shade - take your own shade for example a large umbrella and always have plenty
of water available to drink so your dog stays well hydrated.
• Avoid your dog taking part in unnecessary exertion, or from standing in exposed sunlight for extended
lengths of time. Remember, if you feel hot your dog is very likely to feel much hotter and dehydrated,
and this could lead to dire results. Please look after your dog’s welfare.
WARNING: IF YOUR DOG IS FOUND TO BE AT RISK FORCIBLE ENTRY TO YOUR VEHICLE MAY
BE NECESSARY WITHOUT LIABILITY FOR ANY DAMAGE CAUSED. Anyone whose dog is entered at
a Kennel Club licensed event should take all reasonable steps to ensure the needs of their dog(s) are met,
and should not put a dog’s health and welfare at risk by any action, default, omission or otherwise. Breach
of Kennel Club Regulations in this respect may be referred to the General Committee for disciplinary
action under Kennel Club Limited Rules and Regulations. Exhibitors/Competitors are reminded that show
societies have the right under Kennel Club Regulations to refuse any entry.
Not for Competition: Not for Competition entries will be accepted. Details of each dog so entered must
be recorded on the entry form and must be Kennel Club registered.
Remedial action will be taken by the Committee in the event of dogs being found in a distressed condition
in cars.
Fouling and Grooming Waste. Any person in charge of a dog must remove any faeces and/or grooming
waste immediately. Please use designated areas where bins are provided for the disposal of waste.
No animal, other than the exhibits and those visiting for eye testing, will be allowed within the precincts of
the Show.
The Committee of the E.A.C.A. does not hold itself responsible for any loss or damage to persons, dogs
4
or property whilst entering or leaving the Venue. Upon this understanding only are Entries received.
23. Parents will be responsible for the behaviour of their children within the precincts of our Show and Events.
24. If acknowledgement of entries is required a stamped self addressed postcard should be enclosed with
entries for the Secretary’s signature.
25. Should any question arise not provided for in these rules, the Committee’s decision is final, subject to
appeal to The Kennel Club.
26. No person whilst an undischarged bankrupt may serve on the Committee of, or hold any other Office or
Appointment within a Kennel Club registered Society.
TRADE STANDS. The Committee can accept no responsibility for products advertised or sold by standholders at the Show and wish to remind exhibitors that grooming products on sale may not meet the requirements
of the Regulations for the Preparation of Dogs for Exhibition.
EXERCISE AREA. Please respect the venue and use the Exercise Areas provided. Exhibitors/Owners are
required to clear up any fouling by the dog(s) in their charge and to keep all dogs on leads whilst exercising.
