From 1865-79, it functioned as an adjunct of Presidency College, Calcutta. From 1880-1887, it was shifted to the site of Bishops College at Shibpur and was called Government Engineering College. In 1920, it came to be known as Bengal Engineering College. In 1993 the Collage was given the status of a Deemed University. In 2004, it was further upgraded to the Bengal Engineering and Science University. In recognition of its immense contribution to technical education, in 2014, It was upgraded to the Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur, an Institute of National Importance. The Institute has green, calm and quiet campus. It is approximately 5 Kms from Howrah railway station. It is well connected to Kolkata via Vidyasagar Setu and Rabindra Setu. It is only 15-20 minutes journey from the heart of Kolkata. ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT The Department started its journey in July, 1965 and the first batch of Graduates & Post Graduate passed out in 1971 & 1974 respectively. The Department offers Bachelor and Master of Engineering courses. From the year 2014 onward it has started offering 5-year Integrated Master of Technology Degree Programme. It also offers Ph.D. degree in various fields of research, like Microwaves, Antennas, Instrumentation, Microelectronics, MEMS and Sensors technology, wireless Communication and Signal processing. ABOUT THE COURSE REGISTRATION FEES: Faculty members & Research scholars from Engineering Institutes/ Engineers from Industries with Microwave/Antenna Engineering background "With mankind’s activities expanding into space, the need for antennas will grow to an unprecedented degree. Antennas will provide the vital links to and from everything out there. The future of antennas reaches to the stars. One hundred years from now, in 2084, will our present technology seem as primitive as this transmitter of Hertz now appears to us?" This was a quote of John D Kraus in 1984, which we all find to be a reality now. Microwave and Antennas have become a part and parcel of our daily life in twenty first century. However, with the advent of Wireless and Mobile Technology, there has been a major breakthrough over the years in the design and approach. With the above backdrop, a oneweek Short Term Course in Microwave/Antenna Engineering is being organized. ____________________________________ Rs. 2000/- ADDRESS FOR CORRESPONENCE: Dr. Susanta Kumar Parui Course Co-ordinator Dept. of Electronics & Telecomm.
