Severe Weather
• Heavy rainfall over the past few days has
caused floods and river overflows on the
island of Java. In Bogor district, 92mm
of rain were recorded in 24h on 21
December.
• As of 21 December, approximately
15 000 homes have been flooded in a
number of districts in Bandung regency,
West Java, and over 4 000 people had to
evacuate their places, according to
authorities quoted in local media. In East
Java, houses in 16 villages were also
inundated and hundreds of people had to
evacuate, while in Central Java floods
were reported in the local media, but no
evacuations had to take place.

Volcano GAMALAMA
• Gamalama volcano, located on the island
of Ternate, North Maluku province,
erupted on 18 December, 22.41 local
time, sending ash up to 2km into the air.

• As of 19 December, BNPB reports five
climbers hospitalised, while a 2.5mm
thick ash layer was measured in the
village of Maliaro, at a distance of 6.5km
from the peak of the volcano. The Sultan
Badullah airport in Ternate closed
temporarily, due to low visibility, on 19
December.
• The area at a radius of 2.5km around the
peak of Gamalama is inaccessible and
the aviation colour code over the volcano
is Orange, as of 22 December.
