CHILD LIFE INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION The 13-week Child Life internship features experiential learning. The first week includes an orientation to our 204-bed facility and Child Life program. Your 520-hour (40-hour/week plus weekends and community events) commitment will be divided into rotations giving you experience with all ages: infants/toddlers, pre-school/schoolage children and adolescents. In varied clinical areas, you will have the opportunity to spend time planning developmentally appropriate activities for hospitalized children; assist in supervision of activity centers; provide one-on-one interventions; participate in preparation for and support during procedures and treatments and conduct medical play sessions, all under the supervision of Certified Child Life Specialists. You also will have the opportunity to experience a variety of specialty areas. INTERNSHIP FORMAT Week 1 - Orientation Week 2-12 - Rotation among inpatient and outpatient units Inpatient Rotation Pediatric ICU/Cardiac 3 Central - General Medical/Surgical 4 Central - Hematology/Oncology 4 South - General Medical 4 West - Rehab Outpatient Rotation Pediatric Emergency Department Hematology/Oncology Radiology/Ambulatory Week 13-Final Choice Week The intern can choose an area of interest (among those available). ** Schedule is subject to change** Our Child Life Program has responsibilities for patient care 365 days a year with morning, afternoon and evening coverage. Your schedule during your internship at JDCH will vary and will require some weekend commitments. Please attach contact information for each reference. The internship coordinator will conduct telephone interviews with selected applicants who meet the criteria to advance in the application process.
