We also provide the transport services to help children from near and far access the pediatric services and care they need. Transferring Your Child Specialty Care and Support Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) The PICU at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital features advanced monitoring equipment and a dedicated medical team of board-certified, fellowship-trained pediatric intensivists to provide 24-hour in-house medical care. Ground Transport Hospitalist Program Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital has a dedicated ambulance for prompt ground transport of children from local hospitals. The transport team includes a pediatric intensive care nurse, a pediatric respiratory therapist and a pediatric intensive care physician, if necessary. There is also a neonatal transport team. These specialists provide high-quality medical care on the way to the hospital, while staying in constant contact with hospital-based physicians to help facilitate seamless care upon arrival. The mobile intensive care unit ambulance can transport up to two patients, plus family members and the medical team. Mobile extracorporeal membranous oxygenation (ECMO) can be provided for patients with critical cardiopulmonary conditions. Like the leading children’s hospitals across the nation, Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital utilizes hospitalists. These in-house, board-certified pediatricians are available 24 hours a day for children transferred to our facility. They manage the care of young patients and communicate regularly with the family and primary care physician regarding specific services, discharge and follow-up care. Child Life Program Air Transport Conine Clubhouse Child life specialists strive to make hospitalization as positive and stress-free as possible for young patients and their families. They offer emotional and developmental support, medical play and special activities at bedside. In addition, through our partnership with Broward County Public Schools, a teacher is available to assist hospitalized children with their schoolwork. Air medical transport services via a fully equipped Learjet are available for emergency transport of severely ill or injured children. This critical care module with wings has flown to locations throughout Florida, the Caribbean and abroad to transport children under the care of a specially trained, in-flight medical team. ECMO can be provided during fixed-wing jet transport. Conveniently located on the Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital campus, Conine Clubhouse is a special home away from home for families of hospitalized children. Among its numerous amenities are 23 beautifully decorated rooms (including four suites for larger families) with private bathrooms and cable TV, a communal living room, a playroom, a laundry room, and a chapel. To assist in the rapid transport of critically ill or injured children to Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, helicopter transport is available. A highly qualified medical team specially trained in transport medicine and in-flight physiology provides full medical attention during the transport process. Conine Clubhouse is supported through funding by Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital Foundation. Accommodations are free of charge and based on availability. Whenever possible, parents are encouraged to accompany the child during ground or air transport.
