Pastor: Let us pray.
All:
O Holy Child of Bethlehem, you are the hope for our hurting and broken world.
We thank you, O God, for guiding us through this season of Advent, shining
your light in the midst of our darkness. As your birth lit up the Bethlehem sky,
continue to shine in our world by dispelling darkness, binding up the broken,
and calling forth the faithful. On this holiest of nights, make us willing to
welcome you as our Savior and Lord. We pray this in the name of our newborn
king. Amen
THE CHRISTMAS STORY
Reader: Luke 2:1-7
Bible p.58
All:
“What Child Is This?”
Vs 1 & 3 Red#296
What child is this, who, laid to rest, on Mary’s lap is sleeping?
Whom angels greet with anthems sweet while shepherds watch are keeping?
This, this is Christ the King, whom shepherds guard and angels sing;
Haste, haste to bring him laud, the babe, the son of Mary!
So bring him incense, gold and myrrh, come, peasant king, to own him.
The King of kings salvation brings; let loving hearts enthrone him.
Raise, raise the song on high, the virgin sings her lullaby;
Joy, joy, for Christ is born, the babe, the son of Mary!
Reader: Luke 2: 8-14
All:
“Angels We Have Heard on High”
Angels we have heard on high, sweetly singing o’er the plains,
And the mountains in reply, echoing their joyous strains.
Glo ~ ~ ria in excelsis Deo; Glo ~ ~ ria in excelsis Deo.
All:
Bible p.58
Red#289
“Angels We Have Heard on High”
Shepherds, why this jubilee? Why your joyous strains prolong?
What the gladsome tidings be which inspire your heav’nly song?
Glo ~ ~ ria in excelsis Deo; Glo ~ ~ ria in excelsis Deo.
Reader: Luke 2: 15-20
All:
“Angels We Have Heard on High”
Come to Bethlehem and see him whose birth the angels sing;
Come adore on bended knee Christ the Lord, the newborn king.
Glo ~ ~ ria in excelsis Deo; Glo ~ ~ ria in excelsis Deo.

CHILDREN’S MESSAGE
Teri Bergendahl
CAROL
“Away In a Manger”
Away in a manger, no crib for his bed,
The little Lord Jesus lay down his sweet head.
The stars in the sky look down where he lay,
The little Lord Jesus asleep on the hay.
The cattle are lowing, the Baby awakes;
But little Lord Jesus, no crying He makes;
I love Thee, Lord Jesus, look down from the sky;
And stay by my cradle ‘til morning is nigh.
Be near me, Lord Jesus, I ask Thee to stay,
Close by me forever, and love me, I pray.
Bless all the dear children in Thy tender care,
And fit us for Heaven to live with Thee there.

Pastor: Let us pray.
All:
Tonight, God, the world waits to receive once again the baby Jesus. You sent him
to share in our humanity, but also to save us from our sins. We learn patience,
humility, self-control, peace, and love through this special baby. Let us make
these gifts visible and accessible to all. Amen.
WORDS OF INSTITUTION
THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be
done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our
trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,
forever and ever. Amen.

Round yon virgin mother and child. Holy Infant so tender and mild,
Sleep in heavenly peace, sleep in heavenly peace.
Red#281

Glories stream from heaven afar, heavenly hosts sing, alleluia!
Christ the Savior is born! Christ the Savior is born!
Silent night, holy night! Son of God, love’s pure light
Radiant beams from your holy face, with the dawn of redeeming grace.
Jesus, Lord, at your birth, Jesus Lord, at your birth.
BENEDICTION
Pastor: Let us bless the Lord.

Thanks be to God!
Pastor: May the gift of God’s love in the light of Christ’s life shine brightly around you,
warmly within you, and boldly beyond you, this night and forever.

*CLOSING CAROL
“Joy to the World”
Red#267
Joy to the world, the Lord is come! Let earth receive her king:
Let every heart prepare him room
And heaven and nature sing, and heaven and nature sing,
And heaven, and heaven and nature sing.
Verse 2, 3 & 4 continued on next page
Page 5
Joy to the earth, the Savior reigns! Let all their songs employ,
While fields and floods, rocks, hills, and plains
Repeat the sounding joy, repeat the sounding joy, repeat, repeat the sounding joy.
No more let sin and sorrow grow, nor thorns infest the ground;
He comes to make his blessings flow
Far as the curse is found, far as the curse is found, far as, far as the curse is found.
He rules the world with truth and grace and makes the nation prove
The glories of his righteousness
And wonders of his love, and wonders of his love,
And wonders, and wonders, of his love.
