Who Is the Inner Master?

M
any years ago, I had a vivid dream experience.
A man was showing me how to fly like a bird! I had read
about dreams of flying, and wanted to experience this type
of freedom in a dream. When the man came up to me, in my
lucid dream, I sensed such a familiarity with him that I
quickly embraced him. Then I asked him, “You’re going to
be with me for a while?” I didn’t realize it at the time, but
this was one of my first conscious contacts
with the Inner Master in this lifetime—
where I agreed that he could be with me
and begin to instruct me directly.

“The Inner Master is the matrix
that the Holy Spirit forms. The
Mahanta is the Inner Master, the
inner side. The Living ECK Master
is the outer side.” — Harold Klemp,

The current Mahanta, the Living ECK Master (ECK is
another name for the Holy Spirit) is Harold Klemp. He acts
as both the Inner and Outer Master for members of
Eckankar. But, as the Mahanta, he is the expression of the
Spirit of God that is always with you, and me, as well as all
other Souls. We are not abandoned orphans on this earthly
world: An Inner and Outer Master, or spiritual guide, is
always designated by God because it is the Master’s job to
gather up and assist the Souls who are ready to return home
to God. In fact, this is spiritual law—when the student is
ready, the Master appears. Even in a dream of flying!
A member of Eckankar who lives in the Cleveland area
is very grateful for the Mahanta, the Inner Master. She
shared that, “Having the Mahanta as my inner Master and
guide is the best gift I have received in this lifetime. No one
has loved me more. When he said, ‘I am as close to you as
the beat of your own heart,’ I knew this was the path for me.
My life really began at the age of 32 when I was desperately
seeking God. That's when the nightly visits of the ECK
Masters began. They came and opened my spiritual eyes,
and my heart. Over time I became less fearful and more

accepting of their presence and guidance. Through the
presence of the Mahanta I have experienced divine love. I
learned to love myself, to love God, and to love others. I have
learned so much, and there's so much more to learn. The
Mahanta is always with me. He is always loving, always
guiding, always protecting me. Thank you, Mahanta!”

make conscious contact with the Mahanta, the inner form of
the Holy Spirit, with a simple spiritual exercise called
The Easy Way:
Just before going to bed at night
concentrate your attention on the
Spiritual Eye, that place between the
eyebrows. Chant HU [pronounced
as hue] or God inwardly and
silently. Hold your attention on a
black screen in the inner vision,
and keep it free of any pictures if at
all possible. If you need a substitute
for mental pictures flashing up
unwantedly, put the image of the Living
ECK Master in place of them.
After a few minutes of this, you may hear a
faint clicking sound in one ear or the sound of a cork
popping. You will suddenly find yourself outside the physical
body, looking back at it in the room. Now you are ready for a
short journey in the other worlds.

The ECK Worship Service

There is nothing to fear, for no harm can come to you
while outside the body. Although you may not know it, the
Mahanta will be standing by to keep watch over your
progress. After a while the Soul body will return and slide
gently into the physical self with hardly more than a very
light jolt.
